SM-P905V Update Questions

I recently purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 on eBay and added the tablet to my existing Verizon account as this was the quickest, easiest way to get the updates (I'm on Android 5.1.1 now).

I don't need Verizon internet on the tablet, however, and would prefer not to pay the extra $10/mo to the Evil Verizon Empire.

Hence, the following questions:

  1. Is it possible to download and install the updates manually?
  2. If it's possible, from whence does one download them, and does installing them require the sorts of technical skills which I lack entirely?
  3. Is it necessary to use the Verizon updates, or is some sort of generic version both available and workable?
  4. Is there any reason to believe that additional updates will be forthcoming, or should I find something else to worry about?
  5. How might one get notified that an update has become available without having to continuously search?

All help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

You don't need Verizon account if there is no need to use mobile network.
You don't even need a SIM card for every update. Mine are AT&T ( 907A) and Verizon (905V) using Wifi only still get the update via download new firmware or OTA update from the internet, not from Samsung but some popular websites or someone upload. To get new update you should check auto upate in the setting. After that your tablet will automatically download any available updates, then you only need to select install, no technical skill requires to this simple click.
