[sm-t290] issues with flashing twrp and root.

I have a tablet that got the OTA 7/2020 for android 10 I’m now trying to root and flash twrp.

Boot loader is unlocked.

I have my full original firmware

The instructions I was following are from a thread in the forum.

1. Flash factory android 10 via Odin.
2. Flash android 9 BL with Test_twrp_290 I think by mechanik6
3 reboot to recovery wipe data
4. Flash magisk zip.

Best I’ve done this far is have a complete flash of BL and TWRP but missed recovery and it booted after that any time I flashed it showed unauth software and in download mode it’s now kg prenormal.

I’m going to flash the original android 10 form ware now then reflash the android 9 and twrp and try to get straight to recovery because based on my reading once flashed you have to immediately boot to recovery or it will replace twrp with factory.

Anything I’m getting wrong here?

After this post that is exact what I did.

Flashed 10 stock complete
Flashed test for 290 twrp in AP
Flashed android 9 in BL
Booted and got to recovery with key combo
Wipe data factory reset.

Then I had access to twrp and I went to work on magisk manager

I have the apk and the zip. My tablet has to install in recovery.

Whenever I attempt to install magisk via the zip file I get an error

I installed the apk and haven’t made any real progress with this portion.

I plan to use magisk to root now that I have twrp on there. Which is one of the suggestions from the forum

You should post the error you are getting.
Make sure system partition is not mounted or viceversa...I forget which way causes an install error

I managed to get through a while ago I just forgot to update my own thread [emoji17].

IIRC I installed magisk manager via the apk and then in the magisk app installed the rest of magisk and rooted.

I have SU and titanium works etc it just fails safety net check in magisk haven’t really researched what that effects or why.

One thing I have noticed is my tablet is very slow and delayed on The RAID game and I’m assuming it’s an available ram issue so I will have to look into that.

It appears something is a ram hog because I believe raid while running uses around 500 mb of ram and of course there is the system stuff but with every app closed besides raid I want to say I’m showing like less than 200mb available ram so I hope to figure that out.

I also have to force external app storage in developer options so I can relocate as much of my app data as possible to the SD card due to the internal storage being limited.

I’m hoping eventually either myself or someone will put a rom out for this thing I miss the days I used to root and mess around with android a lot with the vanilla versions and of course my favorite at the time cyanogen mod

Well that’s not ideal. My tablet was so slow and upon checking the ram the game I was playing raid uses a bunch of ram at about 750mb however the android os was second and was using 500mb of ram which seemed excessive booted into twrp and did the wipe immediately after you hit the wipe button and apparently my expectations were mistaken because next thing I know when the tablet boots I’m going through set up again [emoji19]
