I have tried several times with no luck, I keep getting secure check fail vbmeta:crying:

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Bootloader unlocked
2. Flash previousbootloader
3. Flash magisk_patched.tar - it fails here

Thanks
Did you reboot after flashing previous bootloader...and before flashing Magisk_patched.Tar?

Everyone has such a message! this is just a warning :)
But what do you see in ODIN when flashing the root file? Is there a PASS scoreboard? then everything was in fact stitched and vbmeta including, you just need to wait for the download.
P.S. you need to flash the Root_T295XXU3BTFE_M20.4.tar file, which was given by the link, and not magisk_patched.tar, in which the kernel is not the correct size and it will not be flashed !

An update has been released for the very first firmware 10 of Android T295XXU3BTFE for the XEV Vietnam region! and this is the T295XXU3BTI3 firmware ,that is, the loader version has not yet been raised and it remains 3 . You can get Root rights by replacing the bootloader with the one taken from the previous firmware 9 of Android...Then there are 2 options - either patch the kernel and bring its size to the original one, then flash it through ODIN. Either install TWRP and install Magisk.zip from TWRP. I prefer this option ;) .
P.S. How do I log in to TWRP?

I have made a Skyhawk recovery for our Tab A 8.0 (t295).
I give a lot of thanks to [email protected] for his help with getting a build for TWRP.
Once the TWRP build worked, I made the Skyhawk recovery.

I doubt if I will do much maintenance on this as I am not a TWRP developer.

Skyhawk recovery for SM-T295

To install:
Use TWRP Recovery Manager from playstore.
DO NOT try to install this with ODIN. It will fail, probably.
Hello gcrutchr, thanks for the effort!

using the TWRP is it possible to keep the root "forever" even when I reboot the table? (skip the VOLUME_UP+POWER magisk trick)

If you have installed @mehanik6 TWRP for T295, you can flash Magisk from TWRP. This will allow root to remain intact over reboots without keypresses.

Problem due to KG Status: Prenormal,
further on the message:

P.S. They just got blocked, this happens and the solution is simple, described in the message.

It can also be if you disabled or uninstalled the Knox Guard app
and it needs to be returned ...

Here is the link:
HAD TO DELETE DOWNLOAD LINK BECAUSE I AM A NEW USER.
Thanks for this. That's my build number..

I used to root way back in the day when android was new and it seems like it's gotten a lot more model specific than it used to be so I'm having some trouble figuring out the step by step that I need to follow.

With the file you linked do I just follow the basic instructions from the first post? I can basically follow any odin flashing guide? Trying to get a decent crash course to try and get it right the first time. I've downloaded your link, I have developer mode enabled, usb debugging enabled, and oem unlocking turned on.

From here I'll do this:

Unlock bootloader:
1. turn off tablet
2. press and hold down vol up & vol down keys together
3. insert usb cable (should already be connected to computer)
4. when bootloader screen appears, release all keys
5. press and hold vol up key for 5 seconds, then release
6. read instructions on screen to unlock bootloader (this will wipe all your data)

After reboot, go through normal setup.

Then

You need to download the complete ROM you have installed on your Tablet.
It will be better if you have the same ROM version as I do in post in this post (#1).
You need to unzip the ROM so you can flash it in ODIN.
(I don't need to do this correct? This is what you provided me with?)

Unzip my downloaded root files zip file.
Unzip the downloaded ROM files. (Or do I need to download the rom? Did I only grab the root files from you?)

In the AP* file, you need to replace my files in the zip: boot.img, recovery.img & vbmeta.img (Your download didn't include a recovery.img. Should I grab that from the original post or the skyhawk recovery you posted?)

Start ODIN. Select files for BL*, AP*, CSC* & CP*
For CSC file, select HOME_CSC*
*** Uncheck auto reboot ***
(I'll figure this part out once I get to it. I'm sure Odin will be relatively simple with it's GUI.)

Flash ROM. (All done with Odin I assume)
After flashing ROM. press vol dn + pwr key
As soon as screen goes blank press vol up key and hold
When get into recovery, select data wipe, then reboot
Set up phone as you normally would.
After setup, go to Play store and install Magisk Manager. Run Magisk Manager to see if you have root.

Then I read through the rest of this thread and saw people mentioning.

And then I have to figure out how to stay rooted after reboots.

A lot of information at once. Sorry for my lack of experience and thank you for what you've already done to help.

Thanks for this. That's my build number..
Look at post #215
You should install TWRP, then in recovery, install Magisk.
You also need to install bootloader from android 9 before trying to install TWRP.
Read msgs from post #215...to....and there should be links for everything you need.

Damn, now I'm even more confused. I'll figure this out eventually.

A small hitch, downloaded from the computer ...
how do i install the magisk.tar file after installing the android pie bl
Install via ODIN by selecting the file in the AP window.
And you could immediately flash the BL file from the Android firmware 9 in one go :)

yh I'm rooted
1. i just downloaded the two files (BL_T295XXS3ATB2.zip and the Root_T295XXU3BTFE_M20.4.tar.zip) and extracted them both.
2. i booted into download mode
P.s - Made sure my bootloader was unlocked first ofc (OEM LOCK: OFF (U))
3. Launched Odin, connected my sm-t295 [it shows up as 0:[COM4] IN ODIN for me]
5. then selected the extracted BL_T295XXS3ATB2.zip's (.md5) file [which is BL_T295XXS3ATB2_CL17034026_QB29519559_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5] as BL in Odin
4. Selected the Root_T295XXU3BTFE_M20.4.tar_2.zip's extracted (.tar) file [which is Root_T295XXU3BTFE_M20.4.tar] as AP
5. pressed Start with the 2 files checked off and voila i am rooted without any data loss, secure check fail or anything

thanks  :good:
