I have not and I probaly won't get the chance to until next week. Awesome I appreciate you trying magisk on your device. I'm sure I probaly did something wrong along the way. Thank you!! I look forward to the development of this kernel!
Netflix is working on my T825, both with and without Magisk. The difference between above configs is that Netflix app won't appear in the Play Store for you if root is detected (ie. if no Magisk is used), but installing it from apk file will do just fine. Unfortunately, I cannot 100% confirm if Netflix HDR playback is working directly via the Netflix app (as it was said in changelog to AQI2 software...) because there is no such a content at all in my region.
@schwabe93
Thank you for your time and attitude, awesome work, the kernel is working perfectly. SM-T825 / T825UBU1AQI2 / Xposed 88.1.
Using as a daily driver since a week or so. And... no issues at all!

Connectivity is working fine due to SecureStorage fix bundled along with kernel - no more issues with switching Bluetooth or WiFi on/off and the passwords aren't lost between reboots.

I confirm that support for UHD/10bit/HDR mp4 playback in fact DOES WORK, but via in-built Samsung movie player only! - some players like MXPlayer are still able to decode such a files, but they cannot make use of HDR display. You will surely notice the difference (the effect is tremendous using full brigtness + "AMOLED Cinema" screen mode!), even my wife did and that's almost impossible :D

I also confirm that ElementalX governor seems to work fine, using it for a couple of days and didn't notice any performance drops/battery issues/random reboots... I cannot really say how much benefit as I didn't have time to play with its configuration or run benchmarks (yet?), but the stability is perfect, I mean: PERFECT, so I cannot doubt that after putting some effort in tweaking its configuration, user profits may be quite signficant.

Feel free to ask if there is something which I may do to help you in further developement, like testing further builds etc., this is a great device and the idea of making it even better (and more customizable!) makes me enthusiastic. Well, in fact I cannot wait to do some overclocking/undervolting, hope you'll add such a feature someday :)

And last but not least, dunno if you read that some time ago firmware updates for various (mostly U.S. operators branded) variants of Galaxy S7/S7 Edge enabled a feature of... traditional FM Radio support! All the sources seem to confirm that Snapdragon 820 is FM-enabled. Therefore, I wonder if FM-chip support is kernel dependent and if so, is it possible to port the feature from FM-capable S7 kernel...

Anyway, thank you for your job again.

Thanks @esgie for those comments! Which version of Xposed did you use? Rovo89's Official v88.1 instructions from their OP or the Unofficial Magisk SDK ARM64 version? I'm on the latest Beta SuperSU v2.82 SR5 and not yet ready/knowledgeable to troubleshoot the Magisk path but if I can install Rovo89's Official with the SuperSU and everything noted below in "My Device Reference" , I can try that!

My interest for Xposed was mainly for Greenify Samsung/Google apps that I can't disable (don't think the regular one + pro version to block system apps on google play is working on Nougat unless mistaken) + YoutubeAdAway modules but otherwise, I think SuperSU was fine for the things I've used in the past (Safeynet-Android Pay isn't a main feature I need but can understand others needing it). I know there's an unofficial XDA youtube-adaway apk package being maintained and I may have to try that if all else fails. For general Ad-blocking I followed the newest v3.X AdAway XDA and that's working!

I just got my T820 today after debating between a few other galaxy tabs (I noticed you have a T825) and was able to follow @ashyx's TWRP-SuperSU-verity-decrypt patch + then I flashed @schwabe93 kernel to try the external NTFS-HDD OTG support with Mx Player (This NTFS-OTG isn't working for me unfortunately :( ).

[SM-T820,825] Flash-Kernel V.1.1 Permissive, Wifi Fixed

Features:
  • SELinux Permissive / Enforcing switchable (Permissive is the default).
  • Forced Encryption disabled
  • DM-Verity disabled
  • Root restrictions removed
  • Wlan Passwords after Reboot are FIXED!
  • init.d support
  • CPU Governors: Interactive, Ondemand, Userspace, Powersave, Performance, Conservative, Elementalx and Smartmax a few will be added soon
  • I/o Scheduler: cfq, deadline and noop a few will be added soon
  • NTFS Support
  • USB-OTG Support
  • Boeffla Wakelock Blocker
  • Remove security log agent during flash

@schwabe93 + @esgie (since we're both on Mx Player) Thank you for making this kernel! It looks like I was able to successfully flash it (I can see Flash-Kernel v1.1 in about settings) after following your main OP instructions! I didn't notice any major problems but am stuck on troubleshooting external NTFS HDD OTG mounting...

I was really interested in the possibility to mount external NTFS OTG HDD's but it doesn't seem to be working/recognizing. In the past on non-Samsung devices, I was able to mount with StickMount Root, multiple external NTFS HDD's (2-4TB's @ 7-USB Powered HUB) with my nexus 7 2012 and other nexus/motorola devices > Then I would load Mx player Pro and see each external NTFS drive and all their subfolders.

Right now, I'm getting the corrupted drive notification from Samsung as soon as I plug in the device - I tried changing the USB connection to Media Transfer (MTP) but it just keeps switching to USB Charging.

I checked with an old ESFile Explorer and it shows the drive but doesn't seem to even load the contents of the NTFS drive (I only tested 1 connected, I have 2 different USB OTG-C/A cables but no luck). I also tried checking Amaze File explorer but the external NTFS drive didn't show up (I see the OTG label in the side panel of Amaze but it just says to navigate to the root drive but can't find it). I know there's the more convoluted way that I'd like to avoid with Total Commander + Paragon (costs money to mount each filesystem) but it would be nice to see the drives loading right on MX Player.

The NTFS drives I was testing are all the same ones I used on the non-Samsung devices but now that the S3 has an even better display, specs... I would love to be able to watch them with this :cowboy:

My device reference = SM-T820 (SM-T820NZKAXAR , wifi, 32gb, U.S. Edition // TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t820_AQD6)+ SuperSU v2.82 SR5 Beta + no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx + schwabe93 Flash-Kernel V.1.1] Obviously, I'm very new to the Samsung world and heard that NTFS wasn't natively supported (ExFat/FAT32) but thanks to developers like you all that got me this far, this might be a possibility!

Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

Thanks for the time and input everyone!

external ntfs hdd-otg (powered usb hub) with Flash-Kernelv1.1 = not working.

Can anyone test or explain how to get this kernel to automatically detect + mount external NTFS hdd's when you plug in the USB-OTG C Cable?

The kernel v1.1 is already flashed on my T820. (kernel version: 3.18.31 Flash-KernelV1.1+) / Android Version : 7.0 / build number: NRD90M.T820XXU1AQI2, Android Security Patch: August 1, 2017, SE for Android Status: Permissive / twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t820_AQD6 + SuperSU v2.82 SR5 Beta

I'm trying to get MX Player to view the external NTFS drives directly. When I plug in my external NTFS hdd (on powered USB hub) + USB OTG type C, nothing happens, just a samsung disk corrupt notification (if I take the same external HDD's and put it on my nexus 7 2012 tablet which auto-mounts and loads fine on mx player or on windows, the drive contents are all there and can be viewed/played).

I also tried stickmount root from google play and it detected the NTFS hdd label and started to mount after granting superSU permission but samsung automatically unmounted it.

I upgraded to stickmount root pro from google play to see if that would help but after the notification of the drive mounting, I get "android.process.media" has stopped (if you disable media scan, you won't see that error but samsung's corrupt media notification appears on any attempt to mount from stickmount or even just plugging in the OTG-C ntfs hdd).

I tried turning on/off some of the pro-advanced settings in stickmount but the same situation happens. Hoping to get some feedback from others to troubleshoot ntfs external hdd mounting with this kernel.

My current device info: [Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 T820, WiFi, purchased in United States]: (kernel version: 3.18.31 Flash-KernelV1.1+) / Android Version : 7.0 / build number: NRD90M.T820XXU1AQI2, Android Security Patch: August 1, 2017, SE for Android Status: Permissive / twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t820_AQD6 + no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx + SuperSU v2.82 SR5 Beta

No external speaker sound, YT firefox lags / SOUND + YT = OK with headphones only

Hello. So not sure if I screwed something up along the way. Has anyone experienced laggy/ stuttering video playback on youtube? Also I don't have any sound out of the devices speakers.
Sound DOES work out of the headphone jack and while headphones are plugged into the aux jack youtube works fine. as soon as i unplug the headphones the problem reoccurs.
Now here is how I was setup, Im not sure where along the line I lost speaker output:
1: stock AQI2 Rom
2:installed TWRP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-3-1-0-1-samsung-galaxy-t3581359 through odin
3:right after install I booted to TWRP formated DATA then flashed Flash-Kernel 1.0 and then the latest MAGISK 14
4: Device booted up and worked fine
5:I updated magisk manager to the latest
6:I installed the Gapps module and youtube 4k module through magisk manager
7:went to test youtube and noticed that I had no speaker output and videos were laggy without headphones plugged in

I reinstalled the factory AP BL CSC in odin and my speakers and youtube all works fine again
I am going to go through the install again and see where I messed up but I was just curious if anyone else saw this??
Thank you -Joe

I dont think that the kernel will be the issue here, try to setup Rom and Kernel without Magisk as i dont have any issue lile that and i dont use Magisk

You know what @joemill + @schwabe93

I only had the tablet for a short period and never tested the external speakers since I was trying to test NTFS OTG Stuff with headphones and that's still not working as I've posted above (basically been doing note taking so far and haven't done anything else). I was always using the headphones and I am experiencing the EXACT SAME description from @joemill, but I am on SuperSU (NO MAGISK, only followed @ashyx twrp + SuperSU root-decrypt instructions) and everything as noted in "My Device Reference" -

1. HEADPHONES PLUGGED IN = ALL SOUNDS (SYSTEM, MEDIA, NOTIFICATIONS), VIBRATION = WORKING.

2. NO HEADPHONES = NO EXTERNAL SOUNDS (NO SYSTEM, NO MEDIA, NOTHING) ONLY VIBRATION (e.g. CLOCK ALARM = VIBRATION ONLY, TAP KEYS VIBRATION ONLY)

3. YOUTUBE PLAYBACK on firefox browser NO HEADPHONES = LAGS, STUTTERS NO EXTERNAL SPEAKER SOUND - I'm on a 100Mbps broadband connection with the WiFi router next to me.

4. YOUTUBE PLAYBACK on firefox browser WITH HEADPHONES PLUGGED IN = SMOOTH, FAST + SOUND OK - IMMEDIATELY as soon as you plug in the headphones, everything goes from choppy, laggy to smooth normal speed + SOUND OK.

My device reference = SM-T820 (SM-T820NZKAXAR , wifi, 32gb, U.S. Edition // TWRP (twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t820_AQD6)+ SuperSU v2.82 SR5 Beta + no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx + schwabe93 Flash-Kernel V.1.1]

I didn't try flashing again to stock because I'm not 100% sure how it's done - I've been asking here in this main Tab S3 forum but no luck in getting a response. I was surprised that the external speaker sound wasn't working and was planning to return this tablet (I only have 2 days left before my return deadline at the store) because I thought it was a hardware issue but now that I see this post from @joemill, I am not so sure now :(

Reposting my updated information quote for the time being (until we figure out what the problem is) in restoring back to stock firmware-kernel - this was taken from the Q&A Forum in case anyone else needs the right info:

[SM-T820] How to go back to stock firmware-recovery-kernel? NO SPEAKER SOUND-YT LAG:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s3/help/sm-t820-how-to-to-stock-firmware-t3701952

@joemill - thanks again for all the help from earlier and reporting back now:

I restored everything back to factory stock with AQI2 stock firmware and stock kernel and stock recovery = EXTERNAL SPEAKER SOUND WITHOUT HEADPHONES = NOW WORKING (system/media/notifications) + YOUTUBE (via firefox browser) = SMOOTH/NORMAL PLAYBACK in mobile-desktop mode and highest 1080p-4k resolution streams + Vibration = OK

From your instructions, I skipped one step and flashed the XAR-T820XXU1AQI2 zip components (AP, CSC, BL tar files) through Odin that I had saved on my computer originally... so I didn't use the main 3 files from AQD6 but did download them in case the AQI2 I had on the computer didn't work. All the other steps you outlined, I followed and the tablet restored back to like it was out of the shop (excluding Knox triggers shown in Odin-download mode). The yellow colored "Set Bit Warranty: Kernel" notification on the upper left screen has also disappeared during the boot/shutdown process.

So now my current device info AFTER RESTORING BACK TO STOCK FIRMWARE-KERNEL AQI2: SM-T820 (SM-T820NZKAXAR , wifi, 32gb, U.S. Edition) - Stock Firmware ROM-kernel / Kernel version: galaxy tab 3.18.31-12165571 [email protected] #1 / Build #: NRD90M.T820XXU1AQI2 / Android Security Patch: September 6, 2017, SE for Android Status: Enforced

This was indeed a surprising event but glad I don't have to return the device thinking it was some hardware defect! :) I am a little more comfortable now in flashing this device with Odin thanks to your clear instruction steps. Now comes the part of trying to troubleshoot where the sound issue/youtube lag came from as I eventually would like to get the NTFS-OTG/root aspects working again (I can go a few days without Adaway from XDA and in the meanwhile, installed ublock origin for firefox) - we'll need more community expertise in approaching this better. I'm going to refer this comment back onto @schwabe93 's kernel thread for awareness and documentation. I'm still open to testing and sharing findings if anyone has suggestions as I'd like this tablet's continued development to improve for everyone.
Thanks to @joemill for the added help in restoring this back to factory stock firmware + kernel. @schwabe93 + others, please take note for further testing/awareness points.... still willing to try and test this kernel again once we get some more feedback!

So I tried flashing this kernel again for the T820 after restoring everything back to stock AQI2 firmware + reflashing twrp + supersu-decryption patch - same problem - see comment #28 + #29, no sound.

I also restored and flashed @rorymc928 's T820 Tweaked ROM and the sound was working (no custom kernel installed yet). Then I flashed @schwabe93 's custom FlashKernel v1.1 = same problem like #28 + #29 comments.

It's immediately noticeable as soon as you start tapping on any system icons/toggles = no sound. You can go to the clock for example and try to change to another alert sound but you won't even hear it through the external speakers.

Also NTFS-OTG USB C Mounting for external HDD's via powered usb hub = does not work still.

Can anyone test this kernel out or whoever has it installed, comment back?

AQD6 + AQI2 Firmware [NO ROOT] + twrp + boot patch + Kernel Test = no sound/yt-lag

[NO ROOT] Double test with SM-T820 USA-XAR Wifi + Flash-Kernel v1.1 + AQD6 + AQI2 XAR firmwares [NO ROOT] + TWRP @ashyx "Boot image patcher-no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx" = same "no sound external speaker/youtube-lag problems" with no headphones.

I tested AQD6 + AQI2 firmwares individually

a) I used odin to "downgrade AQI2 to AQD6" (links taken from @joemill : [Firmware] T820-QD6(USA) Android 7.0)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s3/how-to/firmware-t820-qdxusa-android-7-0-t3626822

I put each of the following into each respective Odin slot:

- AP_T820XXU1AQD6_CL11164668_QB13198541_REV00_user_l ow_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.tar
- CSC_XAR_T820XAR1AQD6_CL11064186_QB13291067_REV00_u ser_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
- BL_T820XXU1AQD6_CL11164668_QB13198541_REV00_user_l ow_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar

Rebooted quickly to check sound/youtube = external speaker sound OK without headphones, not youtube lag

b) Flashed twrp_3.1.0-1_sm-t820_AQD6.tar via instructions found here + Boot image patcher-no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx
[RECOVERY][ROOT]TWRP 3.1.0-1 Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T820/T825 by ashyx
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-3-1-0-1-samsung-galaxy-t3581359

Rebooted quickly to check sound/youtube = external speaker sound OK without headphones, not youtube lag

c) booted to twrp + flashed @schwabe93 Flash-Kernel v1.1 zip

Rebooted quickly to check sound/youtube = NO EXTERNAL SPEAKER SOUND/YOUTUBE LAG WITHOUT HEADPHONES - You will also notice immediate during the setup process that there is no external speaker sound when going through the initial setup. If you plug in headphones, sound/youtube playback smooth.

d) I extracted the boot.img file from AP_T820XXU1AQD6_CL11164668_QB13198541_REV00_user_l ow_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.tar and had that on my external microSD card.

e) Restoring back regular stock kernel: booted to twrp > flashed boot.img via "install image to boot partition selected" > rebooted and noticed a bootloop with the galaxy tab s3 powered by android screen > turned off > went back to twrp > flashed "Boot image patcher-no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx" (I already did this initially after flashing twrp through odin, not sure why it had to be done again) from my microSD card again > bootloop gone and boots up to system again > stock kernel version verified in settings > about tablet. EXTERNAL SPEAKER SOUND-YOUTUBE PLAYBACK WITHOUT HEADPHONES= OK

-----

NOTE: I did the same steps without installing SuperSU/rooting with : XAR-T820XXU1AQI2 (AQI2) as well. SAME RESULTS AS ABOVE + NTFS-OTG External HDD powered USB hub didn't work on either firmware

-----

Ok, I think I've done all I could for now with a few scenarios here... Perhaps @schwabe93 can also comment on the firmware version this kernel was built on - maybe it's some geographical issue?

The problem was to test 2 different firmware and also without root. Unless there's some oddball kernel installation step we're missing, it's seems to be isolated well enough from the above. Really would be good if others can actually comment with the firmware version + model of their tablet. Feels like an echo chamber here :p

a) I used odin to "downgrade AQI2 to AQD6" (links taken from @joemill : [Firmware] T820-QD6(USA) Android 7.0)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s3/how-to/firmware-t820-qdxusa-android-7-0-t3626822

Hey, quick Update USB-OTG are working for me with USB-Stick , my external HDD also recognized but cant open as the system is damaged, will format it later in windows. No external Speaker and sound issue as Youtube Issue. Maybe its about your US Model or what i also think about the kernel as the kernel based on the 825 and i added a few files from the latest kernel source from 820 what is not the AQI2. I will send you an test kernel later the day. Also i contacted Samsung Opensource for Release the AQI2 Kernel Source for T820. Maybe someone who has also the 820 can check also that Problem and the T825 users as well.

Great, thank you very much for checking and replying to these particulars @schwabe93 - I'll be happy to test anything further with your kernel modifications as you see fit!

For your reference this is the "About Tablet" current setup [SM-T820 US-XAR, AQI2 Firmware + twrp + boot patch to remove encryption ONLY, [Did not root] : (see attachment)

a) external speaker sound no headphones/youtube plaback no headphone lag- so this may be a US Model issue (at least for myself + @joemill as you've seen) - still a quite strange situation! Again, as soon as you plug in the headphones, these problems are no longer there.

b) USB-OTG : (I did this while rooted with SuperSU v2.82SR5 Beta with your FlashKernel v1.1 + twrp + AQI2 + bootpatch from ashyx) Try connecting a NTFS external HDD (it will help if you have a powered USB hub for 1TB+ and a non-samsung branded drive). Samsung will show the device corrupt on the top notification and if you click it, it will ask to format. The drive is definitely not corrupt and you can put it back on windows to access/load the contents or on another android device that flawlessly supports NTFS OTG mounting. If you install MXplayer - on successful devices with NTFS support, you'll see the external NTFS hdd's all listed there when clicking refresh (first for example, stickmount would mount the drives after given SuperSU permission). Some file explorers like Total Commander + Paragon plugin and MiXplorer (XDA) have NTFS-OTG support but they will only stream-buffer and if the file is large, it can't handle the read speeds (maybe up to 10MB/S or less). Stickmount can read to almost 30MB/s and when coupled with MXplayer, you can throw 8-10gb 10Mb/s+bitrate files without a problem in jumping around different time seeks.

I came across a few other threads that may help with NTFS-OTG mounting being that your kernel is set to permissive-SELinux:

[APP][18.01.2017] StickMount v3.50 [ROOT]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/23-03-2014-stickmount-v3-01-t1400034

There are 2 zip files given in that stickmount thread: ntfs-3g + mount.exfat-fuse - I put those in the internal storage /SDCARD directory and also extracted the zips just in case but that didn't work, stickmount will mount the NTFS labels but then you get the samsung corruption error.

I originally did root the Tab S3 with SuperSU v2.82SR5 Beta to test Stickmount Root - there is a Pro version that has some more features

Sorry fot the long time to answer :) Samsung now uploaded upon my request the AQI2 Kernel Source for T820 i have made now a build for testing the Sound/Youtube Problems. For NTFS Problems not resolved yet. Exfat Filesystems works on external HDD.
I hope the Kernel boots, but made a Backup before of the KErnel and maybe whole ROM

Download NO Governers and Wakelock Blocker

IMPORTANT: I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DECIDE TO FLASH THIS. ITS UP TO YOU TO MAKE A DEVICE BACKUP WITH TWRP OR HAVE THE STOCK FIRMWARE TO HAND!

Thank you for getting back @schwabe93 and in taking your personal time in putting the new kernel to test. I know it's not easy to balance personal life and hobby work for us! I will test this during the week (currently in middle of doing some Magisk/safetynet testing for Netlix - removed SuperSU). I'll also make the proper backups like you said.

2 planning questions before flashing/testing: Flash-KernelTest-SM-T820.zip | by schwabe93 for Galaxy TAB S3 wifi [Nov 18, 2017 uploaded]

1. Will this work with either the latest SuperSU or Magisk already installed on stock AQI2-XAR-US firmware? Your original Flash-Kernel v1.1 from OP, did work with SuperSU (and Magisk it seems from the earlier comments in your thread).

2. If the kernel does not boot, will we still be able to get power into TWRP and re-flash our backed up stock boot.img kernel and @ashyx boot patch? (asking because you said you hope it boots :p). In worst case, I'm hoping Samsung-Download Mode + Odin will work to restore the original AP/CSC/BL firmware.

Hopefully NTFS-OTG will come when you're able to figure it out and maybe some other members here can share their knowledge in how to approach and implement this. ExFat/FAT32 external HDD is a default stock firmware, non-kernel/non-root feature I believe. ExFat (if you google) has a higher chance of data loss compared to NTFS. Frustrating that Samsung makes it difficult for everyone!

In Twrp you can boot if its not boot, or voa Odin.
Have you tested it yet?

Unzip failed error while trying to flash KernelTest

Hi, @schwabe93!
I'm having the same no sound, youtube lag with no headphones issue as the guys above, so I've decided to try the Flash-KernelTest-SM-T820.zip. And after two attempts to flash it with TWRP (the second one with a new, md5-checked copy of the file), I keep getting an "Unzip failed" error, despite the fact that the file unzip successfully when doing it manually.
Any idea about how to solve this issue?
Regards!

Hello I read through this whole thing and have a question I was hoping someone can answer about this kernel. Basically the only hope for me not returning this tablet is this kernel.

I want to know if this kernel, when flashed and then setting governor to performance, will eliminate the horrible performance of this tablet. I am just looking to hold off until 8.0 gets here where Samsung has clearly figured our DVFS and their new devices FLY.

Can anyone confirm if any of the governors will eliminate the lag on this device (normal usage and more specifically gaming)? Otherwise I have to return it unfortunately :(

---------- Post added at 01:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:08 PM ----------

On the s7, one of the Devs was able to re-work DVFS to get rid of the performance problems and since this has the same chipset I was hoping the same could be accomplished. Sorry for the double post lol
