Flashed the unlocked TMO firmware this morning. Just checked and the option is there.
What firmware did you start with? Was it a branded phone? What did you flash? Any other issues? Knox, wifi calling or anything?
Thanks much. Would love to get this back, but don't want to break other things trying. Sprint branded s9 here.
Very much appreciated

How do I determine what Samsung update I need?

G960U1: http://samsung-updates.com/details/1...1UEU1ARBG.html
or
G965U1: http://samsung-updates.com/details/1...1UEU1ARBG.html

And will it change the Sprint stuff installed on the phone? or am I confusing this with ROMS?

YES I am a NEWB.
Looks like one firmware is for the S9 and one for the S9+....G960U1 vs. G965U1
Also if the firmware linked is "unlocked" version, then no you will not have all the sprint apps/bloat.....in general all features should work minus the one's dependent on sprint apps...however you might be able to sideload the sprint apps you want....i have T-Mobile so i can't be certain, perhaps a sprint user can chime in (that has flashed unlocked firmware).

Of course the carriers change the default function to make you buy their service.

Or to make you use a different free app in which they get analytics (which they then monetize) or financial kick backs from the app manufacturer.

I am interested in flashing my Tmobile branded S9 to the unlocked firmware just for smart call, TMobile has Name ID but Smart call is free and appears to be the same thing. Can anyone confirm this is the case? Seems like Smart call will show name data for landline calls to your phone etc. I had originally ordered the Tmobile version so that I could be sure about B71 but not just that with Smart Call and UMTS 900 and B28 LTE in the unlocked (correct me if Im wrong) and all the Tmobile things working, visual voicemail, B71, WIFI calling etc. Is there any reason to NOT flash to the unlocked firmware? And just to confirm Im not missing anything in my TMobile version to enable Smart Call right?

hello, does any of this help ??

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sprint/comments/6zucut/note_8_premium_caller_id_app_unable_to_uninstall/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-note-7/how-to/how-to-smart-call-future-note-7-t3451659

i found under apps system apps smartcall, phone and contacts permission off, not sure what this alone would do
does a shortcut to com.android.phone.com/com.android.phone.smartcall.SmartCallSettings need to be created somehow ??
sprint branded s9 here.

debating just installing hiya , making sure outgoing text is disabled. i had this smart call working on my sprint s7 and it was useful for sure.

Download ShortCut master lite. Search through for phone app, tap it. Scroll down and Inside you will see smart call settings. Tap once, then click launch. Window opens, click to enable.

I am beginning to think then that if it is only the carrier supplied S9's missing it, it is because they want you to pay for their Caller ID service then.ni

It wouldn't, it just enabling a feature that is hidden by the carrier. I just enabled it on my s9, under "caller Id and spam protection". Just cant enable the built in virus scanner it has

Didn't think it would be a big mystery tbh, the unlocked samsung has built in stock samsung features while locked carrier versions have their replacement features (at a cost) with the stock hidden/disabled

For every 5 calls I receive 3 are ones that are either blocked or need to be blocked. I wish I could afford to turn on the accept only contacts calls feature.
