I followed these tips which got Smart Lock working for me again, however, after some time Smart Lock becomes disabled again. At that point if I go to Smart Lock in settings, I see just a white screen with no options. Is anyone else seeing this?

Edit: following the steps gets it to work again, for a while, but not permanently
More information: after fixing this again, I rebooted a couple times, and noticed most of the Smart Lock options were there, but not all. Trusted devices was totally gone. I rebooted again, and now everything is gone, white screen. Unbelievable

I just downloaded loaded the 8.1 OTA update on my Pixel, and the same thing happened to me. I re-paired my Sony SWR50 watch, and nothing happened. I also don't have the option to add new Smart Lock devices. Sounds like the whole feature is broken.

@heathborders and @CGLee65, did you follow the directions on disabling and re-enabling Smart Lock with a reboot? @rsage, I don't see the same behavior, ever since I performed the disable/enable I haven't had any issues. As a reminder, my Pixel XL is completely stock, never been rooted, themed, or any system modifications.

I will reboot a couple times to see if this does anything to my devices.

Thanks for checking. My Pixel XL is completely stock as well. I also did the original fix, which worked for a while. As far as I can tell, every time I reboot my device, my Smart Lock settings will randomly show anywhere from 0-5 options. Any options that do not display also remove the corresponding Smart Lock functionality (i.e. if Trusted Places disappears from the list, Trusted Places will no longer work). So it's not just cosmetic.

If I do the original fix, it fixes it for a while (I get all 5 options + functionality back), but over time Smart Lock will stop working again (even without a reboot). Of course a normal reboot seems to cause the above mentioned random Smart Lock options disappearance as well.

Good times... good times...

I did things in the wrong order. I did:
Disable Trust Agents
Enable Trust Agents
Restart
<Didn't work>

I now did:
Disable Trust Agents
Restart
Enable Trust Agents

Worked!

I rebooted my device multiple times with no removal of Smart Lock options, strange indeed.

Have you tried looking at the logcat or can you attach it for other enterprising people to review?

Adb sideloaded pixel ota.
Disable Trust Agents
Restart
Enable Trust Agents
Restart

Whats amazing... Not only did it fix the problem of trusted devices missing (and subsequent white screen after toggling without reboots)... The paired Bluetooth device setting was still there and worked.

How does Google break this stuff so regularly :(

This worked for me.

I have a Pixel XL with OTA Update to 8.1 January.

My previous Pixel XL with a full install of 8.1 January didn't have the problem. Sounds like only users with OTA Update were affected from this problem.

Thanks to @germanmarky for posting the solution.

I think you're right on this point.

After the fix though, my face unlock has never been faster. Set it up with a straight on view, then refined it with a low angle - crazy fast now on 8.1 Jan sec.

This also worked for me. This is sad, they had this problem months ago in 7.x on other devices. To see it still happening on Googles flagship in Jan 2018 is sad. ..And why is the Smart Lock page special? Mine has a a header bar with white text on a black background. Every other settings page is blue text on white background.

I just OTA'ed the February 5 release, and I still have the Smart Lock issue :( I tried the Disable Trust Agent - reboot - Enable Trust Agent fix but the next reboot brings the Smart Lock issue back. I just spent over an hour on Google live support chat; they had me try a bunch of stuff but nothing worked and they gave up and emailed me instructions to file an official a bug report.

I had side-loaded the incremental 8.1 update, after which this problem appeared. I then side-loaded the full 8.1 and it didn't fix the issue, nor did the January or February OTA updates.

March update - still happening. Smart Lock is blank, and has a black header bar instead of matching the rest of Settings. And I'm only looking for it because it seems my phone no longer stays unlocked at home.
