Maybe you could:
-Get an IP camera with integrated microphone.
-Install "Tiny Cam Monitor" which shows on screen a graphical representation of the sound it detects.
-Use a program that shows widgets from the phone on SW2 screen and use the tiny cam widget
This way you shoul see both the image AND get a fairly good ideea that noise is being made in that room.
Also there might be some "alarm" triggered when the camera detects noise/movement and a notification generated, I think.
