Just a newbie question. Is it battery and memory hungry to keep a constant connection? Because I remember awhile back using a bluetooth headset and it basically slows down the phone by heaps... and probably not too good for the battery either.

I use a Trinity (dopod d810), 400 mhz cpu, 64 RAM

We all can Help

Hello Alfred,

I spent numerious hours yesterday night to get it working on my Tytn, no luck. When I tried another phone, Kaiser, it worked in 5-10 minutes. I have read the entire thread on both websites a few times:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=4141 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218

And found out that there are several 'issues' which could occure:
1. - Unable to get a partner schip, please read the first post letter-by-letter. I got it working to fill in "0000" first time the phone asks and fill in nothing the second time the phone asks.
2. - Be sure that the registry file are edited with a 'dumb' editor. Most of us use Resco Registry (it's an add-in for Resco File Explorer). When 'imported' the registry please check with the editor if the registry chances really occured. Use a soft reset by press-and-hold the power button long enough.
3.- Unable to get an Outgoing connection on Com5, if you read the thread you will see that there is a registry value called "available ports" you should check if COM5 is on that list.
4. -Strange .NET messages when starting the smartWatchM, please check if the phone has got .NET installed. If unsure you allway's can try to install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2F-07B5-4A8C-8A44-B4E1B196D5C0&displaylang=en
5. -If possible, try another phone, it worked for me, just to be sure you are doing all the step correctly.

What exactly isn't working for you when it comes to importing the registry?

Best Regards, Tom

Update

Moneytoo:
1) Check the registry entries if the were really added
2) Set Outcoming port to any COM number. Just make sure the Incoming port COM number is right and set in smartWatchM
3) Use .NET CF 2 instead of 3.5 (I haven't tried that but I read there could be some problems with COM ports in 3.5) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AEA55F2F-07B5-4A8C-8A44-B4E1B196D5C0&displaylang=en Good luck

@Moneytoo

I think I'm close, I also 'fiddling' the device and the MBW-150. I performed Clean Reset again on the Tytn and installed the .NET as provided in the link. No, luck, I changed "Outgoing port" to COM2, so now it say's "MBW-150(COM2)" and editted the Reg2 file so it would create an incmming port calld "Incoming Port (COM4)" (I thought, when creating a Outgoing Port I only can use 2,4 and 8, so let's pick those ports to experiment). After the soft reset I still got error messages when starting smartWatchM (I changed to incommin 4 in the SWM).

The I performed following:
1. Use the right down buttom key and select the Bluetooth icon (first Icon on my watch).
2. Press top right button, you will see a cross in the Bluetooth icon.
3. Disable and enable the Bluetooth on the Tytn PDA.
4. Enable bluetooth on the MBW 150 again (right bottem key and then select bluetooth icon and press top right key)
5. Fire up SWM and press start, yeah "Waiting for connection" :) It's working!!! :)

So only resetting the Tytn wasn't enough had to reset the BlueTooth on the Phone aswell. I will be looking forward the upcomming releases aswell. OFFTOPIC, this weekend it will be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnaval#Netherlands and I will drink alotta Beer... Check you paypall account, i will buy you some beers aswell!

Cheers, Tom from the Netherlands

Update again, trying to flood this Thread :)

@Schaggo "Another thing: my mum called me today and the watch only vibrated without showing the number."
Is it solved in your MBW and PDA environemnt, unable to find it back in the thread? I have the same problem (Not exactly the same, it's not your mom who's calling me :) but the CID isn't working).

In my post prior to this one I reported that it worked, the MBW was showing the incomming Phone Number. The Tytn was totally empty cause of the Clean Resets i performed. After syncing to my Exchange test environemt the Tytn was loaded 500+ contacts with multiple numbers for each contact. Also I have some general business phone numbers listed on several collegues. I also use Contact Pictures, so each contact record is pretty bigg.
Perhaps the routine to fetch the Contact isn't perfect? Or is it something the .NET stack should provide without any problem?
Can I perform any testing Moneytoo? Or create any log files to see what's going on? As I recall, on the Kaiser of my GF yesterday my name was showing on the MBW 150. On the Kaiser however are only 120 contact with single numbers, not that complicated.

Cheers Tom

This is result of incomplete initiation.

You may try these steps. This I've found to be the best setup.

1. Turn off BT on watch
2. Open sWM and select Start
3. Turn on BT on watch
4. Without pressing button wait until commands start and stop. Now the caller cumber/name should be displayed

I have found a registry entry which contains the allowed ports. I added COM5 and deleted the registry entries from before. I made sure all deviced are deleted, did a soft-reset and walked through the manual again.

The manual does not mention a soft-reset after settings up the ports, but this seems needed for the application to work.

To sum up: I got it working thanks to you all !!! I'll be making a donation in a minute because i am soo excited, it is truly awesome.

EDIT: in all the excitment i forgot to mention where i added the COM5 port (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Serial\Ports\SupportedPorts)

Hello,

I have the same Problem ..... outgoing Com Port only Com6 & Com7 available :-(
I created Com5 (by your way/tip)
But If I want to use these Com5, I get an ERROR :
"The Com connection could not be produced. ......."

Could anybody help (maybe in German) to solve these "Outgoing Com Port 6 & 7" Problem ?
Please in German, my (and others) English is terrible, Thanks

I Fixed it and try using this to help

Ok thanks Tom and everyone else for getting this application done, you guys don't know how freakin excited I am to get back to WM, I had a BB and got the watch so went to SE with BBConnect and now can get back to my roots with WM and see how BBConnect works (I'm using the T-Mobile DASH so I know it does)

Anyway for some reason the reg files were not importing correctly and with Resco I couldn't add the long ones so I found this:

http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=11351

A remote registry tool that allows you to manage your registry from your desktop.......

Thanks everyone and I can't wait until it can be running as a service.

If you are not able to use Com5 and Com6

I can not for the life of me get it to let me choose COM5 as Outgoing I added COM5 to the SupportedPorts but it's still not showing up

As you can see on one of the latest posts (6 posts prior to this one) I succeeded to use other ports then the Com 5 and Com 6 ports. In short, this is what i Did:
1. Clean reset your device and MBW Watch;
2. Pair as innstructed;
3. Alter the Registry 1 file as mentioned so your own BT Watch Mac Address is in the registry file;
4. Apply the file on the PDA and check if the settings are really added in the registry of the device;
5. Shutdown Bluetoot on the device and Soft Reset the PDA;
6. If the PDA is booted, go into the BT manager and try to create an Outgoing port, first try COM5, it should fail as you mentioned (You don't need secure connection);
7. Try all the other possible ports and write the ports down who DO succeed. In my trial an error run I got an working outgoing port on Com2 Com4 and Com8.
8. If you tried everything please pick a port (This is like a lucky shot), i did my lucky shot with Com2. So now the BT manager should say "MBW-150(COM2)".
9. Alter the second Registry file, Find and Replace all 6 into the second 'free' port. In my case this would be Com4 (I also could have chosen Com8). If you leave the second registry file 'as is' it will create an incomming port Com6.
10. Apply the second registry file;
11. Shut down the Bluetooth connection and clean softreset the PDA. Also disable the Bluetooth connection on your MBW Watch!
12. Check the Bluetooth Manager, it should say "MBW-150(COM2)" and "Incoming Port (COM4)";
13. Enable Bluetooth and install SmartWatchM;
14. Change the Incmming port in the SmartWatchM application, as you have changed it aswell, in my case I changed it to Com4;
15. Press "Start" in the SmartWatchM application, it should say something like "Waiting for connection"
16. Now start up the Bluetooth connection on your MBW Watch again and follow the 'communication' commin by on the PDA screen.

Please be sure you are using a Clean Resetted device, if you get alott of 'garbage' on the screen when starting SmartWatchM you should check if .NET 2 SP2 is really installed. You could try to Clean (Hard) reset the PDA again and start oof installing .NET 2SP2.

If you are still running into problems, please tel us the Brand and Model of your device. Also try to give us as much of details about the used Firmware (WM5 WM6 custom or orginal shipped, which language etc). You could also try some Other ports, please tell us which ports you were able to create an outgoing connection to the MBW - 150. I see from your prior posting that you are using a WM standard (Smartphone) device, I'm not completely satisfied that this procedure is 100% matching with the stepd for a Smartphone. Above procedure is for an HTC Tytn (Windows Mobile 6 Professional), please let us know how you are doing.

Good Luck!
AARAGGHHHHH They guy fixed it while I was writing a HowTo ... I hope it will help someone else aswell! Good Going AlfredTV

Still got CID problems, it is only showing the number.

Hello Moneytoo,

I want to share my findings and perhaps you have another great suggestion to try to solve my next issue. With the above procedure I had good luck yesterday, when someone called me I saw the name on the watch. In a regular working day i go to the toilet and kitchen several times. The MBW 150 vibrates and shows me an 'diconnected' symbol to warn you that you are to far from your phone (this is true, i leave my phone on the desk). When I got back at my desk and receive an E-mail the watch informs me, so re-connecting is no problem.
In the afternoon i demonstrated the CID to some collegues, and at that time it was only showing the phone number :( I tried the above procedure, I also tried to restart the Tytn, no luck. The only change with the morning test is that the watch was several times dis-connected because of my kitchen/toilet visits.
When going home I added my bluetooth Leadtek GPS receiver to the list. Tomtom was working fine with the bluetooth GPS receiver. Got some calls and all the time only the number was shown and not the names for those persons (the name is showing on the Tytn PDA)
I could try a 'Clean Reset' to get to the state that names where working on my Tytn, I rather wait for your comment to check if anything needs to be fixed or sorted out. For your information, I'm running on Outgoing Com2 and Incomming Com4.

Cheers, Tom

Huh ??

hi,
it's compatible with lg-style-i headset?

Hello Bartito,

Are you saying "It is compatible with lg-style-i headset" just to share this information with us.
Or are you saying "Is it compatible with lg-style-i headset?" and asking us if it is?

I have found no problems with using SmartWatchM simultanious with a BlueTooth GPS mouse and navigating. So I assume other Bluetooth devices should be working aswell. Please bare in mind when adding the registry entries and trying to get SmartWatchM to work that deleting all other devices or even 'Clean (Hard) reset your PDA could improve trouble shooting, if any offcourse.

Best Regards Tom

Bare in mind,

I've just got some ideas which can improve it a lot.

Hello Moneytoo,

Some other comments related to Contacts and perhaps CID improvements:
1. I also use PocketCM (Finger Friendly Contacts and SMS manager), this program is running in the background. This program wil probalay also use the contacts database.
2. On all times, the MBW is showing the number I see a Name and Picture of this calling contact on my Tytn PDA.
3. I have contacts with multiple numbers and pictures.
4. I have the same number (general Business number) placed at several contacts, the PDA Tytn is showing the first contact who has this Business number filled in.
5. Exchange Active Sync is enabled all times, this aplication is push based and perhaps also writing reading the contacts database. This EAS was running yesterday when I did have names on the Watch when someone called me.
6. I do have allway's a number showing in the screen when someone rings, so the 'only vibrate' problem is gone because of the 'incomplete initiation' procedure you sended.
7. All numbers in my phone are in the "+31 (53) 1254786" format, it is a format which is used in Outlook to distinguish Landcode - Region and Subscriber number. Most people place the zero (0) between brackets, this has no use for Outlook and perhaps future Voip calls.

Cheers Tom

working with german rom?

Hi, I monitor this thread the last 3 days. For now I have not a MBW-150 but it sounds really great here what I read. I have the T-Mobile Vario 3 (HTC Kaiser) with the standart rom. Do somebody here have the same phone and got the watch running? The MBW-150 is still quite expensive and I just need a "Yes" before I spent so much money...

It's running on a HTC Kaiser Dutch T-Mobile Rom

Do somebody here have the same phone and got the watch running? The MBW-150 is still quite expensive and I just need a "Yes" before I spent so much money...

I have a HTC Tytn T-Mobile branded with a 'cooked' rom, to be exact a cooked Schap's Rom version WWE 4.30 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355774 And i got some trouble to get it running.
My Girlfriend has the T-Mobile branded MDA III (HTC Kaiser) with original shipped Dutch language Rom. On this device SmartWatchM was running in 5-10 minutes (didn't need to change anything just follow instructions and use the registry files), CID was also working. Unfortunelately I had to give her the device back.

I say, it should be 90% sure you can do something with the German T-Mobile Kaier and MBW-150 combination. If everything will be working flawlessly I don't know, but something will work! I found a website on www.kelkoo.nl selling the Music edition of the watch for €159,- perhaps this helpes aswell!

Good luck deciding, I did the gamble aswell, I have no regret it works for me and i have FULL trust in Moneytoo that some nice features will be happening!

Cheers Tom

    I've got a new MBW-150 but it won't connect. I've been using an MBW-150 previously. The screen dimmed. Now I've got a new watch but I cannot seem to connect. I'm using WinMo 6.5.

    I figured I needed to either change the device (Settings--> Device) or re-Discover and Pair, but both functions are greyed out on the phone, so that I cannot access them. I'm using smartWatchM v 1.2.6.0 (20100227).

    Any hints?

    Thanks!
    what device (model) are you using?
    1
    have you aplied the registry fix that is mentioned (HKLM\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Services\0001\Auto from 1 to 0 and restart the device ) delete all previous watches from the bt manager

    The rubber wristband on my Music Edition watch broke. Does anyone know where to get a replacement. Obviously I've contacted SonyEricsson, but if you know an online store selling them it would be good.

    Thanks!
    I found many wristbands for most of the mbw series and mbw-200 here but the prices are a little hot but they only ship to Germany, I managed to get me one through a friend I have in Germany hope you can too.

    Unless you absolutely need original band, I believe any 20mm springbar wristband/watch strap will do. Tons of different designs are available cheaper and also you can find one that you like better than original one. For example, try eBay, or this shop is pretty good too - http://www.watch-band-center.com

    Edit: sorry, just noticed original question was about MBW-150 and not MBW-200 (which is 20mm). Not sure which size MBW-150 is, you may measure it yourself (distance between lugs). As long as it using springbar strap, third party straps should also work.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to display the number calling in large fonts.

    If I disable 2-lined Caller ID, no number at all shows, just a blinking phone symbol. If I enable it, the number shows, but only in half size (obviously, as it is a one of two lines). So is it possible to get the number to show despite having 2-lined caller ID disabled?

    Thanks!

    UPDATE! Suddenly the phone number shows with numbers displayed as a full line. Don't know what was wrong previously.

    You use the beta version of smart watch (SmartWatch 1.2.6.0 (the beta version) )?
