For which people you will design gaming phone with physical buttons? For childs and teenagers? If you want gaming phone with good specs, you must rise price. Teenagers dont have enough money for that. Casual gamers or mature people with money dont need phone with physical buttons. They are satisfied with games like jewels. I think, we belongs to the last group. We have money and will to pay for mobile, like xperia play, but i think we are the minority. Thats reason, why ngage failed and why failed xperia play. Starting price was too high. They must profite. You cant make money from device which was designed for small group of people. Era of handheld consoles already ended. Nintendo realized that and who knows, maybe we will se something from them. They have big and succesfull titles. But i think, sony ended with projects like xplay or vita. I will sacrifice my both hands for xplay or mobile from Nintendo :D

no way, how coul i ever carry that thing in my pocket? the xplay is still my main driver, and it's pretty sad that after 4 years i didn't find a valid alternative...it's starting to show its age now, but i bet i will carry on another couple of years with my play..i'm a heavy retrogamer and watch a lot of music and movies on it..as i said before, no way i can carry that 5+ inch board in my pocket..just enormous

Same here I still keep my Xperia play as my daily driver but its single core combined with the poor software optimization from developers such as the Facebook app for example, makes the phone feel its age . The Snail W3d sounded like a good alternative but it is just too big. I hope Snail Games launches a smaller version or some other company takes the Xperia play approach but with up-to-date hardware.

Ya optimization is pretty bad especially in most higher android builds like kitkat and lollipop but ics and jellybean Sen to work fine. There's ways around the Facebook deal depending on Rom and kernel and ya the w3d sure us huge no idea where I'll put it

This game-pad also looks like a good alternative: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bran...e-iPad-Android-Mobile-Phones/32397213384.html
If it was just a little thinner.

Wow that joystick is a nice idea $40 is not worth it you could get Moga for around the same price or less if you keep an eye out for it or if you have to live in the States so you can get a Gamestop Bluetooth controller for about 20 bucks and its got really good reviews. I actually own Moga hero pro but I recently sold it. Either way thanks for posting.

Yeps I agree with you this one is too expensive, but it is more pocketable. The Moga and Ipega controllers I've seen are around 2 inch thick, this one is only around 1 inch and it has 4 bumpers.

I was waiting for this device, but the pre-order price is too expensive, I didn't have a tablet for a while, so I went ahead and bought a JXD S7800B instead which acts as a dual purpose tablet/gaming machine. I'm guessing the performance is similar to a Nexus 7 2013. The WiFi signal is atrocious on it, you can't have a wall in between the device and the router, but I added a WiFi repeater in my room to fix that problem. The digitizer is like 2mm away from the actual LCD, but it works perfectly, I guess you can't ask too much from Chinese tablet at this price. The display quality is decent enough though.

One thing I was disappointed with is the D-Pad on it sucks for fighting games, it plays fine for just about everything, but hard to pull special moves, so looking to see if I can replace it with a PS4 dpad. However, I don't have a PS4 (nor want one) to know if it's similar in size, but I can somehow sand it down to fit in. The joysticks are useless out of the box since they are not rubberized and so are slippy, I will have to buy some kind of round anti-slip rubber stickers to put on it. The other buttons are great however. The onscreen button mapping works perfectly. You have to navigate the interface using physical buttons and there are no onscreen navbar which is unfortunate especially in portrait mode, then the Home button is up top.

This is the first time I'm having decent gaming experience on an Android device since the Xperia Play. I have a Moga Hero, but I never use it because I hate bluetooth pairing, and having to mount the phone on it, you can't play while laying upward since the mount isn't stable and folds downward. But this JXD tablet is pretty heavy as well so you have to rest it on something. I've been putting gaming off for a while, I don't think I beat an RPG or any long game for 2 years now, I have to actually force myself to get off my lazy butt and play something now.

Guys I just asked on Ali express and the dimensions of the Snail W3d are 190x76.5x12.5mm. That is insane, for me that is the biggest deal breaker of this phone. The maximum size I would take is around 152 mm which is the One plus one size.

This puts it at just a little bit larger then a 1st gen PS Vita, at least in width:

PCH-1000:
83.55 mm (3.289 in) (h)
182 mm (7.2 in) (w)
18.6 mm (0.73 in) (d)[17]

Edit: I emailed the Snail PR person I emailed with back and forth at the end of June asking if he can verify the following info:

Jon at Technobuffalo will be getting a review unit
Verify that review units have indeed gone out
Provided the above dimensions and asked him to confirm.

Also I did a check. A xbox game case is exactly .5 inch thick, same as the phone (if true) and exactly 7.5 inches wide, same as phone, now just cut at about 3.5 inches in height. You are literally almost holding a xbox game case to your head, just shorter in height. but width and depth are the same. As much I am loving the idea of this phone, if these dimensions prove true I will find it very difficult to justify carrying a device that large as my daily phone. I will reply when I hear back from the PR person at Snail, who I must add has been excellent at repsonding compared to the their Facebook/Customer service emails...

Dang that PR guy was fast, already replied to my email I sent him not 5 minutes ago:

My email to him:

an tell me if review units have been sent out to reviewers? Also I read that the dimensions of the phone are:

7.5 inches(W) by 3.5 inches(H) by .5 inch (D).

Can you confirm the above details? Also just curious if Jon at TechnoBuffalo will be getting a unit to review? Thank you for your time.

His reply:

Jesse,

I'm putting you in touch with Grace. She can make sure he's on a review list and any questions you might have for now.

But, no, they have not gone out yet. There us more to this than just another phone so we are taking our time and doing it right.

Will reply soon as Grace provides some info

If anyone can see which carrier this would be best on. Please help. I mean I am not seeing anything that it will take full advantage on.

So as we are all aware that this phone is to be released on September 30th of this month Acer just announced their new Acer predator gaming phone with a MediaTek 10 core processor and 4 gigs of ram. No pricing or ETA on the phone however they do have an 8 inch gaming tablet that is speculated will be out between the end of this month to the first week of November. Despite its crazy specs it does not have a physical game Padme out it looks just like a regular smartphone with just a boatload of power.

If anyone can see which carrier this would be best on. Please help. I mean I am not seeing anything that it will take full advantage on.

If you're interested in LTE, the only bands supported in the US are 17 (AT&T) and 41 (Sprint):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-UTRA#Deployments_by_region
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT&T_Mobility#Network
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_Corporation#Wireless_networks

However, since Sprint does not support GSM nor WCDMA, AT&T (and subsidiaries like Cricket) appears to be the best choice unless you have fantastic LTE coverage with Sprint. Also AT&T will be covered completely under 3G WCDMA.

T-Mobile will also have some WCDMA coverage under Band 2, but no LTE coverage:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_US#Radio_frequency_spectrum_chart

Although the separate SIM slots for LTE and WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/GSM does bring up the question of how that will work. Do we just put the LTE capable SIM in Slot 1 and it works for all, or does it only work on GSM? I don't really know how these Dual-SIM phones work.

On snails Facebook page I took a screenshot of the Amazon release date and left a pretty nasty comment regarding my frustration with this phone and the company. Some of it might be harsh but I am just really really upset with them the weight alone has already been asinine and now this happens and no communication from the company on this device or any announcement of the date being pushed back. Snail should be the first place everyone goes to for communication and they have no communication whatsoever. It seems like all that I want to push is there age of wushu. I realize I am just venting, but again I am just very disappointed and angry with them. I am sure a crapton goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about, but this has to be one of the worst product roll outs I've seen. Again, just upset. Rant done.

Awesomeness man that thing is going to be practically out of date when it comes out better have some kick ass games!

Sent from my LT28i using XDA Free mobile app

I read on droid gamers that supposedly they are replacing the Mediatek processor with a unknown snapdragon

As much as I want this phone to be awesome, I am getting very frustrated with Snail games on their lack of comunication, and the fact that we have wait 6 months for the release date and now 6 more months for release, this is ridiculous.

Amazon just posted this phone with the release date of December 31st for $399

Just noticed this official post on Snail's website:

    http://www.snail.com/en/news/2015/0108/8683.html

I realize this article is several months old now, but I noticed the following line for those in the US who are interested:

" The phones available in the North American market will arrive unlocked and compatible with most U.S. network providers."

Guess this means that, at the time of this writing, they either did not plan on any carrier support in store, or had nothing lined up yet. That's all, just wanted to share what I found.
