I'm curious...

Very kind of you to offer to do this for people.

On a related note, I am curious as to what this guy is doing over in this thread: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1405052

TL;DR is that he's opening the Kindle Fire and shorting out one of the pins on the circuitboard. Risky to be sure but what I am curious about is if this is doing the same thing as as a factory cable would? Thoughts?

Yeah, thats what is sounds like he is doing. All a factory cable does is supply 5V to the 5th normally unused pin and he is just doing that by shorting to that pin on the board.
