SOFT BRICK Fix for X8 w/SONY PC Companion

Seems a lot of you are having the same problems I had with using Sony PC Companion to restore your phone.

Here is the proper method.

Follow these instructions STEP BY STEP, and you will eventually restore your X8 to its original state:

- Turn off the phone, and unplug it from the PC !

- On your PC, uninstall Sony PC Companion
- Restart your PC
- On your PC, clean any Cache and Registry related to Sony PC Companion, then restart PC again.
- Reinstall Sony PC Companion by downloading it from here

- Turn on Sony PC Companion on your PC
- In Sony PC Companion, enter the Support Zone tab
- Go to Update Phone Software

A window will pop out, saying that it cannot find your phone

- Click on Fix Phone
- Click on Continue

A window will pop out, saying that you will lose all your data

- TICK the BOX
- Click on continue

An update process will began.
Wait for it to show a window with all the SONY mobile phones

- Find your phone (X8)
- Click on the phone.

Now all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. It will tell you to hold the back button and plug your turned-off X8 to the PC, then it will erase everything, and download the original 2.1 ROM to your X8.

If Sony PC Companion STILL doesn't recognize your X8, then, uninstall Sony PC Companion AGAIN, and start the above described process AGAIN. It WILL eventually work!

You may also try to do it with FLASH TOOL

Good guide, but it only works for SOFT brick. Hard brick means you cant even turn on your phone or boot it in flash mode. No signs of life.

Sorry to confirm, WhatInTheButt...

A hard brick means your device is dead ... like it happens with boot loader unlocks in 11W29+ devices.

The resolve you talk about is a soft brick where the phone still shows sign of life.

The OP's solution applies to SOFT brick.
A hard brick is when you burn it, hear a crack inside or a sqeeeking sound that will precede sudden death of your device, with no means (without physical replacement of parts) of revival of your lovely x8.

Hard brick can only be fixed by Sony Ericsson or by a person who has excellent knowledge of electronics.

I thought a softBrick was an eternal loop, or inability to enter cwm. I once had a whatchyamacallit-brick where nothing happened, X8 wouldn't turn on or budge at all. Used this method and worked just fine. Well, then. If that was a SOFT brick, I feel sorry for those with a HARD brick

Once i had bricked my phone and reset that back using SEUS, however now i am unable to do it with that.. i also tried your way using PCC, it says no new software available for you now try later??? any other way??

If you UNISTALLED Sony PC Companion, then reinstalled it again, and it still doesn't work, then try to do it with Flash Tool.

It's not an X8 issue that PC Companion doesn't recognize it. It's something that Sony have changed. That's why it's necessary to uninstall the current version of Sony PC Companion, restart your PC, clear any cache and registry related to it, then install Sony PC Companion 2.1 again.

yes i did that. as a matter of fact, i formated my entire system and installed the OS again and downloaded and installed new version of PCC and tried this but still says no new software available.

And for flashing via Flash tool.. how do i do it.. where to get the stock W8 .ftf (ROM) file?? pls help guys..

I agree with OP. I did exactly the same when I had soft bricked my phone n it worked.

the pc recognises the x8(sound plays on pc when i disconnect and connect the x8),but no window pops up.my x8 is stuck at se logo and i cant even access the recovery.i will uninstall se companion,but how do i find the cache?

Dear masters,

I have a Brick Xperia X8, my Xperia Stuck on "Sony Ericsson" after I turn on my device. my Xperia has been rooted for GingerDX

I have tried the OP guide for Bricked Xperia x8. But my xperia could not response.
if I charge my xperia through original charger, it only stuck on "Sony Ericsson" and the LED not flame.

I have tried using SEUS, PCC and Flashtool, but my Xperia cannot response while connecting usb cable and press back button. the program always request for connecting usb cable and press back button.

I have tried to use Reelock bootloader(S1tool), but my xperia could not response too. either I click Identity, Flash or Restore. I have tried Gordon's Gate to reset my usb port, but my computer always hang when I connected USB cable and press back button.

Please, what can I do to save my Xperia X8...

my phone already bricked for 2 weeks, and I read many forum from XDA, Android-indonesia, kaskus, and many of bloggers but not worked for my Xperia

Don't panic. And make sure you have installed the Flash mode drivers first. When they ask to connect phone in flash mode (back button part), take out your phone's battery, put it back in, then press and hold the back button WHILE plugging the phone into the computer through the USB cable. If you did this correctly a green LED light will appear signifying that you entered flash mode.

Can you enter to CWM ?

i just pressed back buttom wen i connected x8 to pc..then it started by itself...now its dwnloadind damn slow....my connection is not slow...i cant boot to recovery...stuck in "sony eicson" :crying:
