Ok. The source just dropped.
The changes (in public visible parts, anyway) were in Browser (massive changes)
Wifi drivers (pretty minimal changes - not like a major version bump we did in CM)
a kernel signal handling fix.

I see the level of technical interest for this update on both the B&N forums and here is just about nil :p

Weren't we on ICS 4.0.3 before? Maybe someone still on 2.1.0 can confirm? Now the version is 4.0.4...

How do I check Android version? I do have access to a not updated HD+. But I do believe you're right about it being 4.0.3 before the update.

On whatismyandroidversion my not-updated HD+ (software version 2.1.0) reports "Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich" & BNTV600 & 1280x798 screen size (in landscape) or 854x1224 in portrait.

The update broke root, in fact the first inkling I got that something was up was adblock complaining it couldn't change proxy, indicating it had lost root rights. Re applied universal root and all is well again. Just go into adblock settings and switch off proxy and switch it on again to get root rights back for adblock. A bit pissed that this update made it through despite the update blocker being applied, updates should be optional.

2.1.1 update...

Don't know exactly if this is a coincidence or part of the update, but the Google Play store version bumped from 4.1.6 to 4.3.11 w/ the update overnight. I specifically checked the Play version just yesterday.

mine got bricked with the update

Was running original Nook SW, but had CM SD card in the bay.

Found it this morning in CM menu.... supposedly after restart in an attempt to auto upgrade.

I shut down the device, removed SD card and ... it never powers up again.

When connecting to USB device comes up for a second in Windows Device Manager as OMAP4770! and then vanishes...

Any pointer how to recover it?

anybody can make a backup zip, then we can flash in under cwm
rename the .npk file intip .zip file, and you can flash it with cwm.

This sounds like the EMMC firmware crash bug after trim, except the trim is not really used by stock, I think.
Can you boot from sdcard into cwm, adb shell in and see what "dmesg | grep mmc0" reports back to you?

not sure how to fix that....but the auto-update doesnt break anything, as i rooted mine last night and let it do its thing and its just fine....did you make a backup at all before doign what ever you did?...heck does it try to boot to the sd card (try holding the N key when your turning it on)
