Hi,
I got 600$ to spend now for a phone, currently on T-mobile(USA) and my contract is ending this month(can get discounted phone for other 2 years of contract but all phone are ****xxx), and I want Android now as I am seek of WM.
So my question is to buy Xperia X10(considering cons of 1.6 android and no multitouch) or a different phone? Or wait fore some upcoming phones? Anyone got any ideas about this?
Thank you.

I will say buy it.
I bought mine from Taiwan becasue Band 1/4/8 works flawlessly with t-mobile 3g (USA)
And for some reason, some apps like google map perform better than my Nexus one (what the hell?), not just the app response faster but the gps just perform better. It is fater than my N1 when powering up the sat for gps and it will pin point faster than the N1.
timescape and mediascape is cool but I am sure media player is a really personal preference thing.
Camera is awsome with led that will blind you and can manually stays on.
Graphic is good thanks to the Sony screen.
design is beautiful I will say is one of the best looking cel in the market.

Anyway, don't get cold feet becasue of 1.6. This phone is FAST on performance and NO LAG at all.

PS, Sony confirmed X10 will get 2.1 update Q4 as early as Sept.

Re: Buy this phone now?

The x10 is a very nice phone, so definitely look into it. But if you have 600 for an unsubsidized phone, you should definitely consider the nexus one, it gets updates sooner, already has 2.1, will get 2.2 very shortly and will have gingerbread (2.?) By the end of the year, also has the multi touch bonus. But they are both very solid phones, if your happy with standard the x10 is very nice, if you like to mod your phone nexus one is the go

Go for the Xperia X10, trust me. The only thing it doesn't have is multi-touch, but you can easily live without it. Especially with Sony's one-touch zoom.

Now, since it's getting even closer to getting rooted, you'll be happy with a phone that has good hardware, software, and aesthetics---- and yes, people do judge a phone by it's cover. (a sad lesson I learned with my p990).

Re: Buy this phone now?

Buy it. I sold mine and want to buy it again because I like it so much more than the nexus one. I can say that sony ericsson did a fantastic job customizing 1.6. They really covered up what google left out and later implemented in 2.1.

It's a solid phone. Just look at 2.2 and see if you need any of those changes. Then, browse the forum to read about other people's problems and complaints. Finally, try to go to a local retailer and try out the phones. Ebay has the X10i, which is what you should be looking at, for 525 from a new york seller. You should only buy the nexus from google, since it's the only way to get it for now; retailers have it but mark it up higher than the google price.

Good luck. I hope you find the phone that meets your needs.

I'm also a fellow T-Mobile USA user who has the Xperia X10i who came from a Windows Mobile 6.x phone.

Your best options are likely the Xperia X10i or the Nexus One.

You'll really have to think about the feature set and about what you want in a phone. I'd say the Nexus One is probably a better "all-around" phone if you want to tinker with your phone and always have the latest updates.

If you're looking for a more multimedia focused phone then I think the Xperia X10 is a better bet. It has a larger screen, a superior camera for photos and video, and from what I can tell a better out of the box media experience. Anecdotally, video files that i've created (ripped DVDs and some 720p H.264 clips) work on my phone but don't work on my coworkers' Nexus One and EVO 4Gs. Go figure. We're still trying to figure out why. Just know that with Sony Ericsson, you're going to be a little behind on the updates since they have a custom interface. However, SE does a decent job of filling the gaps and providing a "better" than standard Android Donut (1.6) experience.

Both are solid phones that "just work" and you'll likely never have to "reboot" them as often as you would a WinMo phone.

if you live in a hot country don't buy it. My X10 reboots when i'm outside and temperature is 35 deg. Celsius.

If i'm using navigation it reboots after a while on even lower temperatures. (screen turned on seems to add a lot of heat)

I live in US, San Diego, it gets hot here in summer but I don't think hot weather will be a problem. Check your battery maybe it needs to be replaced.
As about Nexus 1 ...well overall design is too ugly for me. I like good looking phones and specs xD.
I guess I will be heading to LA as soon as I have a day off and check it out, already called one store they say they have it with Tmobile 3g bands.
Could't find any sellers in San Diego.

My vote is firmly in the X10 camp. I've been an HTC fan since their first Winmobile devices were released in 2002-2003(?) but this turned me over. My latest Android phone was a HTC Dream and I was looking at getting the Desire until I had a chance to play around with an X10.

What set this device apart, besides the design and feel, was the screen. Even though the Desire has an OLED the SE screen looked way better. The 4" 16:9 display is great, perfect for watching TV-shows on the go.

The interface can be annoying but I installed the ADW launcher and love it.

If you want a speedy device with tons of "teh sexy" then look no further. :)

the X10 got potential. Despite the rooted custom roms or the official updated rom from SE it is a good phone. Although some ppl complains about the issues right now, but it will eventually be solved as time goes by, and the X10 will be really an Kick-ass phone!

Have the phone, how about the update?

Done,
have it in my hands now.
It is a X10i (I am on Tmobile)with .14 firmware.

Quick question for updating with decrypted roms:
Mine says Country: Belgium, Customized. .14 firmware.
So i guess its factory unlocked?
Can I safely update with
X10i - Shipped
WWE_R1FB001---this one....?
Will it brand to the firmwares provider or how it works?
There is no guide and/or explanation about this firmwares and for what phones are they(branded or unbranded/unlocked!?)

Pls anyone would like to update immediately so I can some apps.
Thanks

Easiest thing to do would be to install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and run it. It ought to give you the latest FW available for your phone. If you're still stuck on an old FW after that I'd look into the mods but there's a fair chance you don't have to.

And considering it's ease of use it's a simple thing to just give it a go before investigating further.

I updated the firmware to .16 with the guide from esato.com and after that i tried the local decrypted rom r1fb001 latest anyway and when tring to flash it would give me some java error like unknown command java - javaflash.jar.
I have java installed.

After all i used Omni tool with their firmware customized and succeded to latest r1fb001.
Thanks anyway.
