finally figure out how do applied theme using method stated in post #1

here are the step by step guide:
1. download hw_init.zip
2. unzip
3. copy folder hw_init to /data
(beware that after unzip, there are another sub-folder hw_init inside folder hw_init, we should copy this sub-folder hw_init to
/data, so the file structure should be /data/hw_init/system/themes/your theme files)
4. change the permissions of folder hw_init and all its sub-folder to rwxrwxr-x
5. change the permissions of all theme files to rw-r--r--
6. reboot and now you should be able to apply theme using themes manager

Which themes do work? The ones supplied in the zip (rather useless) or any custom theme on internal sd (great)? :)

Any idea on how to get the themes working without root ?
I wanna get back to stock
I unrooted the phone and updated through dload method and did a factory rest
Then I relocked and then locked the bootloader but still themes won't work
So any ideas on how to get the themes working in stock mode (bootloader locked and no root)??

Never mind, I solved it, it does work!, I have only one suggestion for OP, let people know that this can only be done through the ROOT EXPLORER APP (Paid), some of us (NOOBS) are used to ES FILE EXPLORER APP and will try doing it from there (with no avail) and then get confused!

Thanks a lot!

Hi!
Would you guys mind to be more especific as to whete to find the data folder, I mean which steps do you take ever since you open ES file explorer, I have root by the way and been looking into the folder structure, there seem to me many diferent files named Data.

So I open ES file explorer then what?, go to Device and the select the sd card? or go to Device > System? I have a mate 8 NXT L09 and the folder structure seems to be different than what you mention here, any help its appreciated, thank yo!

Im using ES file explorer with root permission, I found a Data folder under
Device section, granted read and write permission and did not work, so maybe is not the correct folder?, would you mind to be more specifici as to where to find the Data folder?, thank you!
Hi,

the step by step guide already very clear, can't be more specify.....
/data folder is under root, i'm not familiar with es file explorer, i'm using root explorer

I think the /data folder you found under device is correct, but you need to change the folder/sub-folder/files permissions as stated instead of just granted read and write permission

Thanks a lot mate, now I am super happy with my device, after performing this procedure usind the app ROOT EXPLORER, the theme app works as usual, now I could see all the themes, download whichever and apply it!

Thanks again!

First of all, thanks a lot!, to you and the OP for this thread, it helped me out a lot and I'm sure it will help many others!

Now about the instructions, yes you can always be more specific, you or the OP should not assume that everyone in using the ROOT EXPLORER app, so mentioning that fact from the start would have prevented some confusion, if you read the thread you can see a few of us got confused, so a mention about the actual application to be used would not hurt!, then again, thanks a lot!
