Hi there everyone,
Here is a solution, confirmed by Google Play Support, and does not require your phone to be rooted for solving this issue.

1. Tap Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
2. Go to "All"
3. Scroll down to "Google Play Store" and tap to select it.
4. Click on 'Force Close'
5. Click on 'Clear Data'
6. Click on 'Uninstall Updates'
7. now it is safe to click on 'continue' when u open the market..so go ahead.
8 Enjoy Installing/Updating your desired apps.

Hit THANKS if this helped. :good:

Hi XDA members. Sorry 4 my english, im not so good :(
I have the same problem like some guys here.

Everything was working perfectly, when one day I had this problem too.
I went to Play Store to update some of my apps, i clicked on UPDATE, it started to download, it finished, but - NO UPDATE.

And in Play Store - it says : DOWNLOADING

So, I have seen some solutions right here, and this is what i did:
I went to : Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All>Google Play Store>Force stop>Clear data>Uninstall updates.

Now, instead of the GPlay Store icon, in the app drawes or menu (as u wish) it's the Market icon.
I didnt yet connected my phone to a WI-FI network and to enter the market, because I dont have a WI-FI at home, but when I will be connected sometime, i wanna know will I have any problems with installing/updating apps ?
And also, will this Market app - will be updated to a Google Play Store app ?
And, the last question - if the Market app will be updated to Google Play Store app, will I have the same problem with installing/updating apps :)

Thank you

Relax buddy, since you already un-installed the buggy version of google play..and cleared data too..just allow it to update. It'll be fine..don't you worry, google has solved that issue few days ago.
Please refer to the 1st post for more details. Cheers! :D

I just installed Toasted Marshmallow v1 on my mytouch, and when I tried to install facebook from google play, I got this message....."Facebook could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:AEC:0]" So I tried another app, and got the same error message. So until I find a way to fix it, I just download each app separately from the internet

fixed

Finally... after 2 months fixed! Problem is in Draytek routers.
LAN > General Setup > force your DNS of the router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Problem still exists but no fix.

I have a SGS2, and my problem started around the date of your post, last week of September. I used to have Android 2.3.4. I searched for answers, and tried everything - clearing cache and data of Play Store, Google Services Framework, downgrading to Android Market, switching on another Wi-Fi, and ultimately upgrading to the latest official firmware, ICS 4.0.3. Nothing works, not the temporary fix, not the Google fix, nothing. If someone finds an answer to this, please help us!
Also, I sent a message to Google today, and I am currently waiting for an answer. Hopefully they'll fix this.

Here is what I did. I went to: phone settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All tab> clicked on gPlay Store> force stop> clear data> uninstall update> clear data.

Then, I installed gPlay 3.5.19..still it didn't work (this one didb;t even start to download at all). lol
Worst of all, everytime i run it..google is prompting to update it..and i cant bypass that stupid update..dafuq?!! =="
What should I do? aaarrgh!! @_@

Now i only realized that google play will update itself. Sorry for this stupid statement but honestly say Play Store never start update by itself, never prompt me also in my phone...(Don't know what happen ><) and i every time update it using apk file downloaded from another website. Sorry can't help you on this :(

Would it because of my phone bloatware free and using broodkernel?

Worth a try i guess..i'm gonna try that too..
but i'll probably try installing a rom from another region to check how it goes first..

Perhaps the latest one might help.
    >> Code: I9001XXKQE (Android 2.3.6) / 2012 June / Region: Baltic

As we are not the only one who facing this strange problem so in my opinion i still think that the main issue came from the Play itself. Correct me if i'm wrong because i'm not expert in android. However, flashing a new rom might be a good try and hope that it solved the problem. Good Luck ! :D
