Re: [Q] Defy can't get back to JB

Cm10 sometimes boot loops for me, pulling the battery and powering up again solves this issue(2ndboot builds)

So the process to install is (from stock):

Wipe data
Install cm10 zip
Wipe cache+dalvik
Reboot, and if boot loop occurs then pull battery and power up
If it still doesn't boot then file system tools-> format to ext4. Wipe data and cache from recovery and these steps should get you booted

OK, that's different.
Boot:
1) Red M logo
2) Blue LED
3) GREEN LED
4) Red M logo no LED
5) Bootloop

I think what I need is a CM10 nandroid to install with the CM10 zip :/
On blue led go to custom recovery and wipe dalvik cache. Reboot and give it some time to boot the 1st time.
Green led because it's 2nd-init release (not 2nd-boot).

Where is "File system tools -> Format to ext4"? Can't seem to find it >_<

On blue led go to custom recovery and wipe dalvik cache. Reboot and give it some time to boot the 1st time.
Green led because it's 2nd-init release (not 2nd-boot).
Wiped Dalvik, It's still just looping through this:
Moto Logo
Moto Logo + Blue LED
Moto Logo + Green LED
Moto Logo
Off

CM10 comes with bootmenu that has option 'tools'. Do you have it after flashing CM10? Because you flashed a none 2nd-boot release you can try to format to ext3. If you flash a 2nd-boot release then format to ext4.
Otherwise you could try method 2 from the guide, and then from CM7 to goto CM10 but then you can't go back to froyo it says.

AW: [Q] Defy can't get back to JB

why u don't use the defy ultimate wipe, if u get the in cwm custom recovery. after that the defy is clean and u can flash latest CM10 on a clean system partition.

I'll probably have a try at method 2... I NEVER want to go back to FroYo haha, Once I get to CM10 I'm going to be a lot more careful with my OS..

Does that not just delete System, Cache and Dalvik? or does it do something else. I've been going from SBFs

if u come from rooted SBF and had working second init which install cwm recovery, u can use it. after that u go straight to latest CM10. but yes the zip not do more as del system data and cache ;)

after flash latest CM10 press go back button to get out of recovery and u can see the tools to formate data and cache to ext4. u don't had to wipe everything after flash the zip of CM10, and after formate all to ext4. just boot second boot kernel and if u stuck on black screen take battery out, press power button and after a short while put battery back and start. with that I got more than my own defy back to CM10

Try method 1 again, but use this newer version of 2nd init 2.0 instead of 1.4.3.

After that you could try this steps to install CM10 (copy/paste from FAQ):

For MB526 and PRE 2ndBoot Builds
1) Go to Custom Recovery.
2) Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and go to advanced ► Wipe dalvik.
3) Go to Install zip from sdcard ► Choose zip from sd card.
4) Flash gb Kernel (JUST FOR DEFY RED LENS USERS).
5) Flash CM10-20120924-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip.
6) Flash Gapps.
7) Flash Battery fix (only for red lens)
8) Wipe Cache and Dalvik again (recommended).
9) Restart.

Because you haven't suceed to install 2ndBoot release, try this one to see if it works.

You are a red lens user, so follow all the steps and see wat happens..
Did this from CM7, just had the M logo no LEDs.
Going to try a 2nd boot build from CM7 now

EDIT:
Flashed latest CM10 from CM7 as a base
When I boot it goes to bootmenu, I've formatted to ext4
When I boot now, I get the Moto logo, Blue LED, Red LED, Black screen for about 30s-1 minute,
Turns off, reboots to Moto logo.

No boot animation at all

I think I need a Fixed CM10 SBF to flash after the zip.. but not sure which to use
AIO Beginners Guide said:
...................................................................................................................................................................................................................
.........................Custom 2ndboot sbf rom's...............................
cm10-JB.2ndboot.2-11-2012-Quarx.fixed'sbf it should work on any bl version(have only cg39.smg,firmware.hmg and ramdld.smg)
cm10_JB_moded_9-11.Quarx.fixed'sbf zip version
28.11JB.Quarx+JellyX30.11kernel.fixed'sbf Thanks to Blechd0se for kernel
cm10Quarx.31.12+BM.tweaks.fixed.sbf Thanks to Brain Master and Kayant (read this)changed : boot animation of Nexux, search button with function of power button, fixed front button brightnes, .......
Miui.v4.1_2ndboot(moded)fixed'sbf
for Miui_v4.1_2ndboot is need to set on 2nd-boot from bootmenu(bootmenu/boot/2nd-boot) before starts
please feedback

Obviously (like 'all in one guide' explains) you just can't go back to another custom rom :D. You can try method 2 but with CM10 instead. And if you succeed, I bet you can't make a switch to another custom rom.
About that fixed sbf, the 1st one you mentioned looks like the best choice to me.

Re: [Q] Defy can't get back to JB

In the defy custom kernel thread there is a compatible stock kernel, which should get you to boot successfully. And I assume you're using the latest build? Also which stock sbf do you flash?

Yeah, I flashed the GB Kernel

Oh, I must have missed that part haha. What about Method 2's second SBF? That first SBF I posted for that? About to try it but jeez the internet is going SO SLOW!

If the thing I'm trying now doesn't work I'll try the stock kernel, I've tried flashing the GB kernel before though

I'm not sure, the SBF I used was linked on the AIO Defy Beginners thread.
At the moment I've managed to get CM7 booting (using Method 2 on the beginner thread, trying a JB SBF (see Page 3) next)

You could try it, just pick it up from step 6 of method 2 on bootloop and see what happens. Those sbf's are the same as from method 1.

Moto logo + Blue LED
Moto logo + Red LED (2nd boot build (2nd Nov))
Blank screen
Back to the first

Re: [Q] Defy can't get back to JB

You can try a radical approach: flash a dfp 231 sbf which will be bl7 and will allow going back to gb only. Then root it, and install latest 2ndinit apk (latest!)
flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32538963. Then wipe data+dalvik, flash cm10, reboot. If hangs or loops remove battery and boot again. If it still occurs then convert to ext4 from bootmenu and boot again. If hangs or loops then pull battery and boot again. Remember the first boot takes time: give it 5 min. These are the exact steps I follow, and should work unless you have some weird hardware problem which doesn't allow cm10 installation:D

If it boots congratulations, otherwise you'll be stuck on gb(no downgrade to froyo) but should be fine otherwise.

DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A GREEN LENS DEFY( DEFY RED LENS AND DEFY+ IS FINE)

I love you <3
I didn't have to even remove the battery and boot again, or convert to ext4. From BL7 it just worked! <3

Thank you all so much, I'm glad I've finally found a solution, albeit a radical one.

Process I followed:

  1. Follow this guide to install and root DFP-231 SBF (BL7)
  2. Install 2nd Init v2.3
  3. Install BL7 Kernel
  4. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
  5. Install CM10
  6. Reboot

After doing this my Home button, search button and AOSP keyboard don't work, I can't log in to play store (Google account manager crashes), and the browser auto closes without any error :S
