Hi. I followed this thread and felt my problem is very much similar. I hope I am right. Phone does not go past the start-up screen after the OTA Update. The Phone is a dual sim phone. I would greatly appreciate your help here. This following is the output from the fastboot getvar all

(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.24.30336021.13G
(bootloader) version-main: 6.16.401.101
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
(bootloader) product: m8_dugl
(bootloader) platform: hTCBmsm8974
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B64000
(bootloader) cidnum: HTC_J15
Is your phone UNLOCKED ? If yes .. then install TWRP then restore 6.16.401.101 backup from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860

There is no RUU for your device version that I'm aware of.

You need to search for the 6.16.401.101 RUU but I don't know whether it is available or not.
Or you can send in to HTC centre if it is still under warranty.
Or you can try to unlock the bootloader thru htcdev
I apologize for my ignorance, but would unlocking the the bootloader mean I could have any RUU installed and not necessarily the 6.16.401.101 RUU. If yes any you could recommend. I just want the phone back to life, not really concerned about the version of the OS in.
The warranty is not an option too. Thanks

No, that is not what it means.

Unlocked bootloader means you can install custom recovery (TWRP) then use it to restore a stock backup as ckpv5 indicated in Post #41 above.

Seeing as you have no warranty, and an RUU is probably not available; unlocking the bootloader and using TWRP to restore a stock backup is your best bet.

I am glad to say I have just gained access to my phone. I am now at the optimizing apps page. I believe I am very much good to go. Thanks for your tremendous help and patience. Cheers!

Can you help me ....

Since the bootloader is LOCKED, what you can do :

1. Download the RUU zip here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960687057
2. Download htc_fastboot.exe here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8L4pkbzdlR3eTlJSjdKVEdHX1U/view

Make a folder say "RUU" on your desktop and put both RUU zip and htc_fastboot.exe in this RUU folder

Then follow these :

Rename the RUU zip to RUU.zip (make sure you don't hide the windows extension so you won't make mistake and rename it to RUU.zip.zip)
put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode (as you get the getvar) and connect to PC
Open a command prompt from RUU folder then run below commands:

fastboot reboot-bootloader (reboot to bootloader to ensure the connection is good)
fastboot oem rebootRUU (put the device in RUU mode)
htc_fastboot flash zip RUU.zip (to install RUU)

Once complete - fastboot reboot

It should boot, then you run setup .. done.
(Only thing is you will lose all data in internal storage as RUU will give you out of the box state - at least better than a non-working phone)
I fave upgraded via OTA to marshmallow and i can get this to work. I have bootloops. I have done all wipes without any luck. Can you helpme to fix this.

Did you try the instructions you quoted? If so, you need to tell us how far you were able to get, what step failed, any error messages, etc.

"it will install the needed drivers then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the drivers"

i am currently installing the sync manager. It is asking for me to repair or remove sync. Which do i choose?
Secondly, after i've installed both, and copied the files from get var, do i try and load into bootloader? (volume down + power).

Thanks again

getvar just gives us the info to see your version number, CID, etc. (gives an output similar to Post #5 above).

I don't know what you mean "copied the files from get var"

If you are s-on, you need to relock the bootloader in order to RUU, using command: fastboot oem lock

I finally got it to work, thank you so much ckpv5 for the original instructions. I've been trying to get HTC Support to help for over a month and now it's working within a day :D

---------- Post added at 12:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 AM ----------

If possible use PC with USB2.0
I'm on mobile for 6 hours.

If the above fails, I'll give you another method later.
I don't see a reason it would fail.

Are you using htc_fastboot.exe as described in Post #6?

Also, try to download the RUU again to see if the download was corrupted during transfer.
