1. Why would that be not possible? Lots of Bravia can do it as you can find everywhere on YouTube and Google? And on specs pages like this one.
Btw: On many televisions like Samsung and Sony, there is a secret service mode, in which you can enable PiP/PoP. See my 'big post' section Service Menu.

2. You may root the tv, and then use AdAway or DNS services with ad-DNS blocking like this or this. Or put those DNS services in your home router/modem to block them all in your home network.
Second thing is to remove all the bloatware by (wireless) adb by hand or with any of the scripts like this and this. And dont forget to disable the Sony Shelf etc. And keep HOME button long pressed on any app shortcut to replace/remove it.

It depends on WHAT you wish to see PiP. If you mean 2 live channels (DVB / analog) you need 2 (dual) tuners. Which they tend to cancel.
If you mean apps, streams or other content, it is possible. Official and/or unofficial (by a third party app or trick).

One input source (HDMI1-4) along an app (eg TVBro). Talking about a non interactrive PiP window being the input, with the main screen being the app.

Of course it would stop the pip if you started a video. One would hope, at least.

I have a KD-49X8500F Bravia 4k at home which just got its whole display/monitor/screen replaced by a new ones which support Dolby Vision 4k(from new generation monitors but not the stock monitor of the model,some how it still fit in and the tech fixer in my area make it work well) Now I am wondering if any apps or configurations that can enable me to watch Dolby Vision MKV file from an USB? or is there anyway to downgrade the android version back to stock (mine is currently running android 9 since update and it''s a mistake because the TV is so lag and slow animation)

Hello people. I have a KD-55XE8577 TV and yesterday I updated the firmware to latest version 6.7205
Some commands on the menu are not working.
As an example, it is not possible to factory reset the tv from the settings menu.
Even with buttons combination (POWER ON + VOLUME DOWN while turning the tv on), ERASING does not appear.
How can I solve it?

1 - I think your tivi will play DV video if ur hardware is supported. Try Dolby vision video with MX player then.
2 - U cant downgrade the android version. I had try copied an older version to usb then insert to tivi. Its recorgnised then ur tivi would try to flash but its cant. U will see a notification there. So try to bring your tivi to customer services. Maybe they can.

Hi. I've got a KD65AG9 (I think it's KD65A9G in US). I want to get rid of my satellite receiver (Sky Q) which supports time-shifting. But Sony doesn't and I don't think they will ever add tif.
According to google, Android TV would support it: https://developer.android.com/training/tv/tif/time-shifting
The record functionality isn't really an alternative.
Any ideas or solutions would be awesome

I just happened to come across this page/forum while googling for help with my X950G. I have been scouring the internet, posting to reddit, posting to avsforums over the last 6 months and I am hoping someone here might be able to help with or even confirm that my TV is toast (worst case scenario). To give a short description:

TV is 3 years old. End of 2021/beginning of 2022 TV started showing stutter/judder issue. Happens on all inputs, internal apps, and when using my AppleTV. I've done factory resets, soft resets, changed every setting on the TV I can find, and changed cables/inputs multiple times. I think that the TV might have a memory issue or processor issue but I have no idea how to confirm that. I'm over 100 miles away from the nearest Sony repair shop. I have bug reports, TV stats, etc. that I can provide. Can anyone assist? Please? I'm desperate.

I tried, it didn't work, neither with vlc, vimu nor with kodi 20.
1080p videos in AV1 work just fine, but not 4K AV1

I just got a x94j (basically same as x90j) and happened upon your question so decided to try playing the following 4K AV1 WebM file: https://www.elecard.com/storage/video/CityHall_3840x2160.webm (https://www.elecard.com/videos)

The file plays like a slideshow in Kodi 19.3 both from my NAS (SMB) and from local storage on the tv. Playback is even worse using VLC.
With the build in media player, I can't play the file directly from my NAS but it does seem to play it flawlessly from local storage.
The X-plore File Manager build in media player can also play the file perfectly from local storage.

I guess current (stable) Kodi and VLC builds don't / can't use the hardware AV1 decoding from the Mediatek chip, which it obviously has since the build in media player plays the file and also I have played quite a few AV1 4k HDR demo video's from youtube (using SmartTubeNext you can select the video format, so I'm sure they are 4K AV1).
Hopefully Kodi and VLC can add full hardware AV1 decoding for this TV in future builds.

This update seems to be giving me spontaneous reboots in many apps, worst in DIsney+. Others seem to be reporting it on different Sony models. Anybody else seeing this?

Hi. I'm curious if I can install some old android 9 firmware from xj90 over Android 10 xh90 firmware on my tv. Xh90 with android 10 sucks. It was flawless on android 9 but there's no way back. So maybe xj90 firmware will do the job. Witch one is the latest with android 9 for xj90?
