Hi folks,
Seeing as though i'm one of the first people in the world to get my hands on the device, thought i'd share my opinions and some pictures compared to last years model.
This is the 16GB, WIFI only version purchased from my local Sony store - received 5 this morning.
I was allowed to test the model in the store first, initial drawback was the lack of a micro USB port. You connect the USB through the proprietary slot at the bottom of the device.
I've attached 3 pics of the device out in full sunlight with brightness turned right up.
The device is very responsive and almost lagfree - it's a huge improvement on the Tablet S from last year.
Price is indeed slightly high, but I think it's worth it to say the least.
For me the cons are the power/volume rocker buttons, they are quite stiff and a little far out of the body - quite visible, the other is the lack of micro USB port.
Best improvement is the location of the speakers, now at the bottom of the device, no longer have to cup my hand so it doesn't block the speakers. Looks like Sony are making more of an effort with this device.
Device is lightweight, has a very nice feel and finish to it - good build quality in my opinion.
The device is supposed to be some 20grams lighter but becuase of the aluminium casing at the back, it actually feels heavier than the Tab S.
Screen rotates in all directions. Ability to add widgets as a small app is awesome.
The general look of android on here is fantastic, I love the icons, fair few pre-installed apps too. Feels even better to hold in portrait mode. Feels heavier in landscape mode but lighter in portrait mode. On screen keyboard is responsive.
If you where like me and unsure whether to buy it - I took a gable and it's paid off.
Unlike the Tab S, i've yet to find any bugs in the firmware like the WIFI drop. Quality from rear facing camera is fantastic.
Infact - upon restarting the device, i've just received an OTA which adds more small aps, ability to install smalls apps distributed from Google Play, support write access to SDCard from applications by other companies. Enhanced clipboard function and supports progressive download from Video Unlimited.
This is after 5minutes of playing around - anyone want to know anything just post or send a PM!
My conclusion - I sold my Nexus 7 to part pay for this, did I regret it, not one bloody bit. This is a stunning device, i'd be suprised if it did as bad as the Tab S did.
