Release6 out today.

-Supports Dock Speaker for some models.
-Updates SocialLife and Reader.

Won't update yet, can I pre-root it?

I have updated and hope it sort out the power off issue... and post back here to see if that is resolved...

I don't know the answer to your pre-rooting question.. I might be interested to root later!

Thanks for the reply, can you see any changes in either of the apps?

I assume (hope really!) that SocialLife is more stable and less laggy - any difference please?

Sorry, haven't used either SocialLife and Reader! I'll try SocialLife and will report back if it is laggy..

The Answer why i have rooted the Tablet

For me, the rooting useful because now I can use USB flash drives that are in NTFS format - unfortunately supported by Android, this house is not, unfortunately, you do not FAT32 so I extended my exFAT for larger video files. Since I have only a WiFi tablet I can use the app with Root Manager and use UMTS 3g umts stick on the device ... there are more things but those are only playing - but we can extend by Root use many useful features and;) The root method is also associated with little risk because you change the read-only files right and push back and forth. Thus, it is worth the thing - for me personally - because everyone has his own opinion .. and that is a good thing;)

;)

Really could use a batch script from the whole build with a few breaks;)
Simply copy and paste the instructions to work through in CMD console;) If you are using step "Backup / system (you may just skip it)" omits goes faster because you'd have to do something else further up again;) That was what all my time had stolen - otherwise you are in 10min by;)

Thanx for your feedback xxliftsupxx
Any easier method than the step bu step guide? The last time it took me hours to do it!
Same the last time I tried to root it took me ageessssssss. And to make it worse it deleted all my apps.
Is there any way to keep root and update?

Upgraded mine to Release 6, Socialife is less buggy, the news section works now finally though it's still a bit clunky. I think the interface of Currents/Flipboard works better with social newsfeeds

The Reader seems the same, but nothing was wrong with it in the first place, perhaps more to do with new content or types of books.

Sony really need to fix the power issue where you get an inconsistent experience every time you try to switch it on, i never know if it will switch on straight away, needs two or three presses before coming to life. I love Sony, but this needs to be fixed ASAP as numerous complaints are testifying to.

I thought it was a Tegra 3 saver core issue, but the Asus ones I checked don't have this problem. Hope the JB build is more streamlined!!!

All these silly skins are slowing down the core Android OS imo.

Root

So for me with this root method NO apps has been deleted. The only thing is that the desktop without Widgeds was. But all apps still there and worked perfectly. Email accounts but had to be re-created. But that was under root 4.0.3. Rel.5 so ;) I find this root method great, because you can understand what is happening. An on-click root solution is favorable - but you do not know what exactly because expires.
