A lot of post discussion on the well know problem let's keep that out of here. Let's post some shots from your new Xperia and let's see what you have captured with this great phone.

Some of my random shots all on auto mode with no filters or edits. Scaled for post, better resolutions --> http://tinypic.com/PuffinNugs

Took some pictures of flowers to test out the sharpness, color accuracy and detail of the camera.
The last picture with the purple flowers pretty amazing. the details in the second are pretty sharp too. Im personally loving this camera.

tried out one of the effect addons you can add to the camera app. this one has the background defocus, its actually really cool and easy to use, lowers down to 8mp though.

Can someone try low-light shots with manual settings please? :)
Here you go, some were handheld, some were taken with tripod. Generally it's not easy to take a decent night photo, especially when Sony decided to limit manual settings (you can't setup ISO and shutter speed simultaneously, you can either set ISO or shutter speed...)

Does the low light performance improve when setting the resolution to 8MP or lower?

Nope, low light performance is not affected by picture size. If you have a steady hand and set low shutter speed in manual camera (which is pretty easy, at least Sony did the easy part good ;) ) you will get good pictures.
