Xperia Companion: advice

Hi guys,

For all of your users of Xperia Companion, I would like you to advice to abandon it, cause it's rubbish. I have had the experience, more than once, that I backupped my device with it and when I tried to restore the last one, it gace only error messages. Also this app does not synchronize your contacts, calendar or notes, which is very frustating. Therefore I would advice you to use two other, perfect perfoming, apps instead:
1. Download from Playstore the app "Download my Mobile Device. It backups you device in the cloud you choose. Google Drive works the best.
2. To synchronize your personal data between Outlook en your device, download "My Phone Explorer" on your device and also on your PC/Laptop. It synchronizes all of you personal data either via USB, Bluetooth or Wifi.

hope to have given you valuable information, kindest regards kuzibri

Contacts

Hi All,
I have been trying to get my contacts back.

Basically I was preparing my phone to be sent back for repair, part of which is to remove account details as they may wipe the phone anyway.

I backed it up (a few times actually over past week) with the Xperia Companion. Selecting all options before I commenced.
Used a few SMS backup apps too to back up texts.

I then proceeded to go to accounts under settings and sign out of each, the phone then has no contacts on it at all. fair enough.
I cannot remember if i signed out of anything under the Contacts menu

I then tried to restore the phone contacts only from my Xperia Companion backup, it restored nothing from what i could make out.
Tried again with adding in settings and accounts for the restore operation. Same result.

Then manually added my accounts back (gmail/hotmail)
Some contacts came through but most without mobile numbers, email contacts primarily.
Was able to, via texts, re-add some contacts as well.

I have some back now but for example whatsapp is still missing over 150 contacts

My guess is i was saving them all on the phone locally, without knowing
Is there any other way i can get the contacts back?
Is there any other apps/account settings i missed that would have synced them?

I had a backup set to SD card and tried that restore - it appears it too didn't save contacts :(

I am on the latest stock firmware 23.5.a.1.291, not rooted.
Please help, its stressed me out something so simple.

i found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-5-0-2-flashable-stock-23-1-0-690-t3056361
and the lastest they hav is D6653_23.5.A.0.570_Customized_AU_SuperSU_XZDR2.8.2

Hello all,

I've got the tmo D6616 variant of the Xperia Z3. I've heard that I can backup the TA keys partition and the DRM for the camera. How can I do this? If I do this, can I use this with any ROM I want?

My goal is to load a custom ROM but still keep the camera functionality the same. Can this be done? If so, how?

Thanks everyone!

Hi all, noob question here. Thanks beforehand!

1. I don't like the new Marshmallow update, how do i roll-back to the latest Lollipop firmware without messing with the Bootloader? You may share with me relevant links from XDA and I can read up myself but i need to be pointed in the right direction.

2. Is it possible to add the camera features from the Marshmallow update to the Lollipop firmware?

Need help with Android File Transfer

Hi. I have a D6653 Xperia Z3. It is upgraded to Marshmallow 3 months ago. I have a Mac (10.9.5 Mavericks) so I use Android File Transfer for moving music, movies etc. It has been working normally for 3 months, when I plug my phone into the USB port, a notification will pop up automatically on my phone and I change it to MTP file transfer and Android File Transfer will pop up too on my Mac.
Today suddenly it does not work like normal anymore. When I plug my phone in, it seems like my Mac does not even recognise that there's a phone connected to it via USB port. Nothing happens. on my phone or on my Mac. I have tried USB debugging on, restarting both devices, uninstalling AFT, etc but no result.
What should I try next?
Thanks in advance.

Need the com.sonyericsson.wifisettings.apk

Hey guys,Im kind of new here, anyways, I just recently updated my xperia Z3v to lollipop 5.1.1 by following the steps, so I got everything setup I installed xposed etc,the thing is that I was getting rid of all of the bloatware that came with the phone and since I bought the phone unlocked I didn't need the verizon apps, one problem I have is that it didn't let me use tethering since it does some sort of authentication with a verizon account which of course I don't have,so by mistake I deleted the com.sonyericsson.wifisettings.apk and I cannot make anything in the settings now, unfortunately I found out too late that x-tether would do the trick, can anyone help me with that apk? It has to be the one for verizon variant 5.1.1 any help will be appreciated

Hello there,

I am looking for a mod that (D6603):

* is based on Marshmallow
* is rock solid and stable
* allows to use adoptable storage

Optionally through the mod the phone has:

* a somehow longer battery life
* less Sony/carrier bloatware (don't use any apps)

My uses cases are:

* daily driver for messaging, web browsing via Chrome
* Hearthstone
* Geo location service like Strava for endurance cycling?

What's my best bet here? Which ROMs should I consider in late 2016.
Stability is really important to me, don't want to get lost in the middle of nowhere on a bike :).

Thank you in advance!

Is there a more definitive thread on the Z3 dead/wont switch on or charge issue aka sleep of death issue

where volume+power or even reset pin wont bring it to life [that helped for some people but not in the dead case below]

like https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/225037/No+Power+&+Not+Charging#answer344147

most people see red blinking led on charge,
but if open and remove battery and externally charge battery
can get it to almost start ie whenon external charger, led with go orange or green and show Xperia and battery charging eg 60% or even up to 100% in my case
but then just shuts down
Pressing reset pin same (but on if on external charge, nothing if just on battery)

---
leaving the battery unconnected and system not on charge, seems to clear something. Then charge (solid red and showing 0%, connect charged battery, shows 85%, get orange led, and eventually green led. Press the reset button and get buzz and 100% indicator, but still goes black and doesnt really start up.

Disconnect charger. nothing, no response to anything.

Connected to a PC, get green light and 95% battery, but wont start up. PC sees a Sony USB mass storage USB device, but doesnt see the media in it

Now about to try the flashtool and see if it sees anything
(seem to need java JRE ...?)
downloaded another version of the tool from Sony developer site and installed the windows drivers
It says a device is connected, but not sure how to check the state of that device
After some messing about (didnt change anything) the Z3 magically came to life ! and seems ok

However the power button doesnt seem to work, so when the screen blanks/sleeps, no way to switch it on
-- use camera button or enable double-tap wakeup
and dont let device fully power off (else need to wake up via charging cable -- no that doesnt work)

Several other reports of power button not working

If fully powers down (or press reset button)
then no way to switch on!
attaching charger doesn't help

Need to reattach to computer and run the flash tool
use flash icon on top left
fastboot mode
then the button that says reboot device into system

Root (& Recovery) Lost After Flashing Custom ROM

Hello, I recently acquired a Z3 on MM, and happy with the rooting of my current Z3c & using CarbonROM 5.1.1, I wanted to do the same for the Z3. So, after doing some research, I went ahead and downgraded to KK 23.0.A.2.93 using Flashtool, rooted using giefroot v3.1 and installed XZDualRecovery. Everything was fine until I tried to flash a custom ROM through the recovery. I lost root, and couldn't access recovery to try to reflash the zip or SuperSU. I redid the KK, giefroot, XZDR process to gain root back. Tried flashing a different custom ROM, but still lost root and recovery. I have tried with different ROMS sourced from different locations - KK, LP and MM to the same effect. Each time it is while still in recovery, immediately after installing the ROM from zip, there is a message saying 'root missing or broken' and getting the option to apply root (/system/su/) - I have tried both yes and no options but it still doesn't 'repair' the root. The only way I can ever get root back is to redo the KK, giefroot, XZDR routine.

I am ensuring the custom ROMs are pre-rooted, but the fact it happens after every one implies it's either the phone itself in some way, or something is happening (or not) during the initial root process. I have reinstalled the latest giefroot available from a different source in case that was the issue, redownloaded the Z3 drivers for the PC. I have tried clean flash, as well as a dirty flash, still no root maintained.

Can some kind soul give me any help? Perhaps I'm missing something...? The only thing I've noticed is that in Flashtool, once the ftf is selected, Flashtool immediately reports in red text Error: bundle not valid, then prepares for flashing and continues and I get rooted okay after doing the whole routine. Thinking it was perhaps a corrupt ftf (?) I downloaded a different one specific to EE/T-Mobile UK, but still same error is noted prior to successful rooting. I have also created an ftf using Xperifirm to no avail.

I am using this process as my bootloader is locked - is there any other way of rooting that may have a different result if I just can't get this to work?

Also while I'm here :silly:, trying to flash CarbonROM from recovery I always get an 'error: failure' as it says the ROM is for D6603 (which mine is?) whereas it's detecting my device is 'leo' (or 'sirius' after the T-Mobile UK ftf). I've tried contacting CarbonROM but no response yet.

I have rooted my last 3 phones to good result, so I now can't not have it rooted :D, so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

NFC

Hello
I looked up everywhere but didn't find an answer to my specific problem.
My phone worked wonderfully before I decided to install a mod rom, which I did so I could remove all the bloatware and have more space, etc etc.
I installed CyanogenMod 12.1 which is the "most recent" available for XperiaZ3, at least that I found of. (If I noticed I'd be "downgrading" the Android version, I wouldn't have installed the mod, since I was using MM)
Anyway
Almost everything is working perfectly and I have the free space and control I wanted, however, when I tried using NFC today, I noticed it simply doesn't work. (It worked perfectly before the mod). No errors, no messages, it's just as if it doesn't exist, although I can toggle the NFC option on or off.
My phone is a Z3 D6633 running CyanogenMod 12.1-20161016-NIGHTLY-z3dual

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

@JulioCastilho, The nightly are very alpha-dev stage ROMs. While a majority will work, you will find things that don't, like your NFC. I tried to find a changelog or something similar that would describe the differences.... Is there anything in the zip you downloaded?

There only solution is to flash the old ROM that you were using if you want to restore NFC functionality.
