Hi, I've had the Rhino Shield for a couple of days now.

When I first received it, I wanted to send it back because the shield/film had smudges, dots and scratches on it, luckily these were only on the film you were supposed to peel of. Still, for the money paid, I would expect something better.

Installation is not as easy as one might think, as I've done it at work, managed to get a tiny speck of dust on the front, that became 5 specs of dust when I peeled it off to adjust it/remove the first one.

I just came back from a night out, knowing I would get another Rhino Shield because of the specks of dust, I showed it to my friends, and scratched it with a key....it failed.....badly, like really miserably. Before my Z1c I've had a HTC One X with an Invisible Shield, I;ve scratched it with a key, cut fries on the screen while in a restaurant for fun, and the Zagg Invisible shield never complained, it just took it like a champ. There were marks on it of course, but they weren't deep, and they "healed" within a couple of days, and if not, I could always return it for a new one.

The key scratches on my Rhino Shield are deep (I didn't even use force), and can be felt when you touch it or use your fingernail. I'll give it a chance to self-heal, see how they are in a couple of days, but I must say I'm very disappointed with this product, which in my opinion is inferior to the Invisbile Shield.

I think I will go with a tempered glass one , Crystal Armor or Brando next, so I won't have this problem.

Below pictures of the films as they came plus result after keying. I will post an update on Tusesday or Wednesday.

PS: In my humble opinion Sony's superior auto mode sucks donkey balls, I was very disappointed with settings/quality of pics to the point where I have to chose manual settings each time, and still get some weird results. I prefer the auto mode on my HTC One X, I will let you judge which set of pictures is better. Sony;s camera/software seems to over-sharpen and adds a grainy effect, please let me know if I'm the only one suffering from this as I might drop them a line, I'm not happy at all.

]

UPDATE: 1st April 2014

Well, three days after the keying, scratches didn't heal up at all, still as bad as Saturday, so if you scratch your Rhino Shield, don't hope for it to get any better wtih time.

Capdase IMAG ScreenGaurd

Hi Guys today i bought Capdase IMAG Screen Guard from ebay for 499INR and i applied myself, Its a Matte and anti glare film. I applied above the ASF of Sony. :victory:

It very nice to see that it exactly fits in and it had a cut out for camera and the ear piece (Slight ridge in the top).

The feel is really good and 95% reduction in reflections from room light. I still haven't checked outdoor as the screen protector arrived in the evening.

Previously i had I9100 SGS2, when i use matte Screen protectors the clarity of the display will be blurred as the resolution is poor, but as sony Z1C have a good resolution the matte surface of the protector doesn't reduce the clarity of the screen.

I recommend this one to who loves matte protectors. :good:

What are you using for back panel?

Friends, what are you using or suggesting to protect corners of the phone, just in case it falls. Is there a separate thread for it?
Yes :p http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2631321

I recently purchased the "Nillkin 9H Anti-Explosion Glass Screen Protector for Sony Z1 Compact" the only thing I find strange is that the camera cutout for the front does not exist.

They have a cut-out for the LHS but not the RHS of the screen, its even visible in their pictures of the cover.

Is this normal? The front camera is more blurry when covered with the glass....

Otherwise it seems like a good screen protector

It is normal, yes. I would have loved to have also the sensors covered (it is glass after all) because the holes are just looking ugly on the plain surface of the protector.
I do not find any depreciation in front camera quality (after all I'm only using it for video-chat).

I recall someone reporting that their front sensor got less responsive with a front glass cover that had no cutout, so I'd rather have a cutout for it than possibly have it stop functioning properly. The front camera on the other hand I pretty much never use so I don't mind if it loses some quality (it wasn't exactly high quality to begin with anyway).
If you want a full front cover there are alternatives, like Crystal Armor for example.

I got this one

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0I04M8

Nice fit, covers like 98% of the body, even the sides.

Only 1 major issue,

after 15 minutes playing in the pool, some underwater action, after it got dry I got ton of small bubbles under it.

Now I removed the front screen part and replaced it with the Rhino SHield.

Anyone tested the Rhino Shield underwater?

I've tested the phone underwater while having the Rhino Shield on, but only for a few minutes, so can't say in the long run.

No bubbles underneath or anything after that.

I just got the Brando tempered glass screen protector.

Install wasn't easy, as when I got the top bit fixed, the bottom slid a bit so had to pull and reapply, and it was enough for on red spec of dust/lint to get underneath the screen, but I won't mess around with it anymore.

FIrst thing I did after applying it, keyed the protector properly.

Not a scratch, looks nice.

No cut outs, seems like a quality product, time will tell.

The Orzly tempered glass is absolutely identic to the Brando rounded edition.
No gap for camera or sensor (the image on Amazon site has a camera gap, but the true glass protectione has no gap at all), oleophobic and rounded borders. Absolutely fantastic and not expensive. :victory:

Hi heavyhms, are you sure they wasn't any front camera cutout? Please post a pics as on website they shown the picture that has a camera cutout and where you bought it. Once I clarify it I can update the master tempered glass list too.

I've got a Nillikin protector on mine, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I applied directly on top of my scratch free ASF. It feels good, is oleophobic, not nearly as static, and obviously is robust. It's a good fit, for me I wish it was a bit thinner but this is my first screen protector ever so I'm perhaps a bit naive :) Application was pretty good, had to reapply one corner but it was successful. It's got enough of a gap around to be forgiving for fit. There is a cutout for the proximity sensor which I wish it didn't have: it has a tendency to catch muck, it's not that easy to clean (I worry I'm going to force dust under the protector).

I hadn't noticed anybody state there is a back protector included in this kit too (not glass, just poly film) which was a bonus. I'd say it was more tricky to fit as it's exactly the same size as the back side. Mine is a bit to one side, hopefully it won't lift as it catches pockets etc as time goes by.

Both sides protected, and fitting into DK32 is a bit of a tight fit but it's OK. I haven't tried the other supplied adapter yet that came with my DK32.

Rhino Shield

I've installed my Rhino Shield front+back last week and I'm not satisfied at all.
I don't keep anything else in my pocket where I put my phone but I got a visible scratch on the back 1 cm long, don't know how, maybe by putting it on the desk.
My main problem though is the oleophobic coating that doesn't work, my phone is full of fingerprints. :| I played with a Nexus 4 with no protection and the screen was nice, only few fingerprints could be seen on that screen. Mine looks very dirty after using it a longer time.
So, I think I'll try a tempered glass in the future, hope that's better kepping fingerprints away...

have in mind that rihno shield is "impact protection"

tampered glass protectors are alot more "scratch protectors"

I had my Brando 0.3 mm Tempered Glass screen protector Front and Back.
I have for about 4 weeks now, and the back is chipping and has scratches, so i contacted the support and they were kind enough to resend me a new one.
Today i noticed that my front protector is starting to chip off too.
I dont know if i just have a defective piece, but i dont know if should recommend this to anyone.

Has anyone tried the dock (DK32) with any screen protector applied? Does it fit? Do you have a back protector as well?

Ya, works fine.
With the dock youll get 2 adaptors, one if youre using a case and one for no case. ;) Im using the one with no case.

I've bought Nillkin 9H tempered glass and I love it! I kinda messed up when installing so I've got on the corner a small place where it looks like there are bubbles but.. I don't care, since it's doing its job good. Fingerprints are visible but if you rub it gently with a piece of cloth they are gone.

btw:
Does anyone recommend an anti-glare protector film for the back side of the device? I'm having a hard time finding something.

My nillikin glass protector is now covered in scratches. Also 3 chips around the edges. I don't use the phone any differently than my nexus 4 and I used nothing on it and for 11 months only got 1 scratch. Trying another kind this week.

To whoever interest, I got the Brando (front and back 0.2mm) a few days ago and, wow. It's my first time using a screen protector, so I might be overreacting. I only bought it because of the thousand reviews pointing out how easy is to scratch both front and back. First I was expecting the Z1C to be a lot bulkier than it really is ( I came from a nexus 4, so it's about the same thickness-ish) and because of this, I was afraid I was going to make the phone thicker with the screen protectors. Well, the Z1C is fairly thin IMO and I can barely fell the brando protector. It doesn't anything to the phone (by thickness) and I can live without (almost) even knowing that my phone has a screen protector. It's very easy to apply, no bubbles, gives a premium feel, look good, and now I do believe on how much it must protect.

My only complain is that it makes the phone slippery. I've always been very careful with my phones, so this didn't concern me on the beginning and I decided to ignore what some users here have advised and decide to use it naked.

Bad decision.

I fell off my hand when I wasn't expecting and now I have a tiny tiny tiny scratch on the bezel. For reference, it's about half the size of the camera icon close to the camera button (thankfully). But it's still there. Lesson learnt. Just bought a bumper.

BTW, best phone I've ever owned. It was worth every penny.

Received Crystal Armor today. Direct link in page 1, feels better with no finger print now but screen feels bit slippery, took me 15 mins to put it on properly.

I've created a thread HERE to summarized all the Tempered Glass we could find for Z1 Compact to save time for browsing through this thread & posts. Some reviews and details were gathered through here and credit for users who give feedback + reviews about experiences.

If I am correct that the Z1f (Japan Version) and the Z1 Compact is indeed the same screen size/ sensors/ camera & flash location. After few days of researching there are already few Tempered Glass out for Z1f in Japan.

I am liking the Crystal Armor and will soon place an order, will update once received.

    List : -
    Crystal Armor (Glass) 9H (http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/keitai/item/151-450850/?s-id=borderless_browsehist_02_en)
    ITO Pro+ Glass (http://colorantonline.com/) (Glass) 9H

Here's my quick review of Rhino Shield for Xperia Z1 Compact.

I did say it does decrease the contrast a tiny bit. Here's a picture to show you what I mean:
    21ewbn.jpg

As you can see, the part where the cutout is looks darker/more black. So the protector isn't 100% clear but it's clear enough and I don't find it obtrusive at all. It's only noticable on certain angles in bright/direct sunlight anyway.

    More pictures:
    2njkdxv.jpg

    11gq6tx.jpg

    (Notice the cutouts)

I couldn't apply it perfectly 100% - You can see some imperfections around the front camera cutout. But it's just because of my clumsy hands/inability to do these stuff well. It's actually very easy to apply - There's no need for "liquid solution", soapy water or whatsoever. And it's quite flexible, unlike some tempered glass protectors.

So far it seems like it's pretty scratch-resistant and I can wipe it clean easily.
It's not completely oleophobic but it's not that bad either. It's not slippery and it's definitely not rubbery.
    Overall, I really like it.

I hope this quick review has been useful/helpful.
