I have a phone with a dodgey stock ROM I want to get rid. However I don't know how to do it with SP flash tool? Twrp is not supported unfortunately.

I've downloaded a gsi but when it comes to using a scatter file from the manufacturer and editing the boot record to point to a gsi it fails saying wrong type or whatever.

Do I need a scatter file that is specific to the gsi? I just want to put Google's Android 10 on this phone so I don't have to worry about malware and ads.

If your bootloader can be unlocked then you could give it a try, otherwise your device won't boot.

Regarding SP Flash tool basically what you need to flash is the system image, and sometimes you should need to flash the vbmeta image too, those things can be done through the tool, you don't need a specific scatter file for a specific GSI, but you need the one that comes with your firmware, other thing you have to take in account is that the system size file meet the maximum allowed for your system size partition.

Said that you should also can use fastboot commands for all of them.
