today i noticed some sparks while trying to get the charger in place. is this something to worry about? What is the best way to get the charger in place?

Sparks when connecting charger

Unless you were purposefully keeping the watch from making a connection sounds like a bad charger
I did it in a dark room just to see...no sparks. Low voltages rarely spark.
This is easily achieved if you miss the charging pads on the watch and the pins on the charging puck hit the stainless portion of the back case.
It's a relatively low voltage short though, and I'm assuming they've built protection into the charger itself if it's left this way for extended periods.
