Speed up performance

I've had my ZTE Axon 7 Mini for 2 months now moving from a Nexus 5 (I know long time coming) but I have been struggling with some performance bugs when unlocking the phone. I tried speeding up animations to get that little bit of performance boost (or an emulated one) and it didn't work. The solution that I ended up finding out is disabling the "Always show nav bar" switch under the Navigation Bar settings did I find performance reliability increase. Found this out the other day and just thought I would share to see if anyone had the same issue.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks (came from a broken S6). I had noticed some sluggishness and wondered how to improve it. I also did the animation tweaks but haven't noticed much of a difference. I've disabled this, it might be a bit faster now, I'll report back later.

Thanks for the suggestion

So I can't say with any confidence that that tweak made any real difference. And I am sadly disappointed with the overall performance of my phone. There are lots of time when the phone is sluggish (easily 10 seconds to open an app) or worse (doesn't recognize or sense touches). Sigh.

I just noticed a Power Manager setting - Smart power-save. It adjusts the CPU based on usage. I turned it off and now the phone appears to be more responsive. Hopefully this will make a significant difference.

I got some but not much of an improvement by changing the smart power-save option. I still had some long touch delays (up to 30 seconds) and some long app starts (also up to 30 seconds). So I contacted ZTE USA and asked for help. They suggested the following:

1. clear the caches
1a. http://zte-iqorsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1297
1b. http://zte-iqorsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4685

2. soft reset - hold down the power button for 30 seconds (my phone restarted twice)

3. try safe mode - http://zte-iqorsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4582

4. factory reset

I haven't yet cleared the caches but I did try the soft reset and what a difference it's made for me (though it's been less than a day so far). I wouldn't call this phone blazing fast but it's a night/day difference for me so far. I hope it lasts.
