CF-Autoroot - Is it safe or not with SECUREBOOT: ENABLE?
I just want to be very clear that I understand:
The phone I am working with is SPH-L710, with software version L710VPUD
ND8
On the Download Mode screen, it says Current Binary: Samsung Official,
Qualcom Secureboot: ENABLE, Warranty Bit: 0, Bootloader RP SWREV: 2
On the CF-Autoroot website, there is a warning:
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !
So I am assuming that Secureboot: ENABLE means that this phone is, in fact, locked. With the "KNOX" bootloader? Secureboot == KNOX?
So Chainfire is warning me that installing CF-Autoroot will BRICK this phone? Thus, I cannot root? I thought root was possible with knox.
It's hard to search for a definitive answer about this on the forums, as the technology keeps progressing and changing. I never know if I am looking at the most current information, or if it applies to this specific device in this specific scenario. I just want to understand,
if this SPH-L710 phone is upgraded to Android 4.4.2 version ND8 with secureboot, what is still possible to do with this device? I do not care about any warranty bit or flash counter or whatever, this is a used phone on a 3rd party carrier now. I just want to know if i can:
-Root?
-Install Clockworkmod Recovery to allow backup/restore?
-Flash .zips in Clockworkmod Recovery? (Ting MMS APNs fix, for example)
-Install CM11 ROM? Or other AOSP ROM?
-Install custom kernels?
I have never owned a phone with locked bootloader, and my other Galaxy S3 has not received this horrid OTA, so I really have no idea what is safe to do to my wife's phone. If you know the answers to the above, I would greatly appreciate your input!!
EDIT:
This thread has answered some of my questions about KNOX, However, I'm still not even sure if I have KNOX or not. When I am in download mode it says "Secure Boot", the word "KNOX" does not appear anywhere... This is so confusing. Does this KNOX FAQ even apply to my phone???
