Ok man thanks

---------- Post added at 01:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:35 AM ----------

Actually, I don't use any company cause I don't live in the US so I use the phone only with WiFi.
Ok. Then you're good to go. Just wipe data, system, cache and dalvik. Then flash rom and gapps. If its a 5.1 rom, make sure to use 5.1.x gapps. If its a 6.0 rom make sure to use 6.0.x gapps. Open gapps work very well.

my sph-L710T PROBLEM

ill give someone $20 or many thanks to help me get my triband back to stock and fix the phone and the sound. i have absolutely nothing in each of those two categories. im not writing this out of the blue. i have searched and explored and called and read tens of pages in forums and followed many directions on how to do this.
i can root this phone. i thank hokage for that because he got me close.
ok, i have the latest "T" version of twrp and i think i have the latest version of philz in the bootloader. i switch between the two depending on what's happening. the only thing i can use odin for is to flash twrp. it fails on every other flash i try.
chainfire super user beta is my choice and i flash it regularly because it doesn't seem to hold a root. i wanted to contact chainfire personally because i was using his stuff a long time ago and have always stuck pretty close to it. i downloaded flash fire because i thought it might fix my constant binary error which once again i can't seem to figure out. i have yet to figure out how to make flashfire work for me. im not stupid but, i sure feel like i am.
in other words, nothing i try works. wiping the cache for recovery and reflash or wiping separately switching between twrp and philz.i like philz because it resets the root on exit. i can't get twrp to do that. i have all the zip files on my sd card. i have reflashed everything dozens of times.

OK,,,NOW,,i can flash cmod dsp nightlie and i can pretty much do whatever i want with it. i have set it up and torn it down so many times i can't count. i can make cmod 12.1 with update 21(?) running android 5.1. you'd think it was made for this phone, i love it,, but i just did update 19 for sure this morning, i can make it scream. i can make it look great. i can delete it and wipe the system and it re-installs for me perfectly every time however, all of these things have to be done manually through twrp or philz, either one, it doesn't matter. I have no music and no phone. i have flashed the modem for this phone successfully many times to no avail. NOTHING WORKS!
GO FIGURE.
Im sitting here with the sph-l710 at my elbow that i upgraded from thinking i was getting the exact phone. dont kid yourself the "T" model is a wonderful running piece of work as long as you don't change anything. i was really liking it until, of course, i decided to play.
i haven't had portable music or been able to make a phone call since. that make this very nice, sometimes, phone literally worthless.

i wanted to contact chainfire direct like i said he has his finger on exactly what im trying to accomplish but, i couldnt do it.
HELP?

Stop using SuperSU beta 2.67. That's why root is not sticking. It does a systemless root which will be wiped if you wipe data. Use one of the older stable versions. Don't use the twrp "triband" build. It is only made for flashing octos ROM. Use regular twrp for d2spr straight from their site.
Also you may be using an outdated Odin. I can get you a link to a new one.
If Odin is failing, you may have the wrong tar or a bad download.

is it bad to simply flash everything through recovery or the bootloader? it seems to me that at least on this phone the"t:model its easier. also, is the d2lte files for a sprint model? i know the d2spr are but the lte seems to work also. on my "T" what could i have done to immediately wipe out the phone and sound and no flashing of the correct files would tAke it back to stock root or give me my drivers for cell service back. i kind of think that phone may have had a problem. it eventually died. my phone company gave me another t in place of the sph-l710 again .isn't philz just as good as twrp? ill take those correct links now. i've tried and i just want something better on this phone. i am so scared of losing the cell and sound again.

Get odin from here
Get twrp from here
Use SuperSU stable 2.65. I can get a link for that as well if you need.
Philz recovery is no longer being developed, the project is retired.
As for the d2lte files, yes those will work, but they are waaaay old. From back when all u.s. s3 builds were unified into one. They were separated long ago, for good reasons.
You can flash any ROM built for d2spr, as long as you also flash the modem-firmware fix zip.

And what do you mean flash everything through the bootloader? Are you talking about odin? You can only flash .tar files in odin. Don't try to flash zip files in odin,
They will fail. The only thing you have to flash in odin is twrp (in .tar form). Or in emergency flash a stock .tar. If you download a file that says it's for odin flashing, but it turns out to be a zip file, extract it. There is likely a .tar inside.

Zip files like roms and gapps packages have to be flashed through recovery.
I'm still not sure what you mean by flashing everything through bootloader. I'm assuming you mean download mode and odin, but I can't tell. This phone doesn't have any "flash through bootloader" anything.

As for roms, I'm running regular cm12.1 right now. Straight from cm download page. Just the latest nightly for d2spr. Rock solid, smooth as silk.

jeez person, i have to be politically correct, i haven't checked your profile yet, haha,,,,Wow, thank you so much for all the answers! ya, i've always been a little confused on the recovery term, the bootloader and download mode. you know on my sph-l710 i was playing with all kinds of things and i never did anything bad enough that i couldn't use 0din to repair. that's why i had to get a new phone, i wore the on\off out and the usb disintegrated. i figured i d keep it as a backup because its stock and it runs great. then i was given a triband in place of it and didn't know it. i had problems rooting it but got it, nothing would work through odin except twrp so i loaded philz through recovery and i've been ok ever since except the first time i installed liquid i lost cell service and sound. all sound.
im going to try some things because i get the feeling you'll answer my questions if i get them right. i believe that triband \phone may have had a problem. it got harder and harder to get into the bootloader and then poof, it stopped.
i really need it. anyway so i was thinking cm 12 also. that never fixed my cell service so i hope it works. i will let you know.
thank you very, very much.

To get data working properly on the triband while on any cm based rom, you need 2 things. 1. The virgin mobile apn fix ( pretty sure you said you were on virgin, lol) and 2. The modem-firmware fix zip. Number 2 is so that you can run regular d2spr roms on the triband s3. I will get you a link if you havent stumbled upon that on your own yet.
And.... And.... Happy flashing bro!
cm12.1 is running solid for me. I've tried all the marshmallow roms and they are awesome, but still a little laggy and glitchy. But getting better every day. AICP is my rom of choice usually and I highly recommend it also.

i am on a sprint tri band but its weird because its a government thing. i have seen that virgin mobile apn fix although i have the boost mobile. im not sure what to do with it. i am going to go with cm 12. i ran it for a long time on the triband thAT DIED BUT HERE'S MY QUESTION,, gosh, i always hit that caps key,, if i flash this rom am i immediately going to lose phone and sound?,,would you give me the links to all these things and the order to put them in? please when you get time? i ran cmod 12, i ran liquid 3.2 lte, i ran aicp 12- all ran very well with no cell or sound. i did flash the fixes all after loading the roms and none worked.. thanks man. i will say this, these triband models run very very well as a stock samsung. they are just so loaded with crap. this one came with all the odex files; is that normal? one other thing, how to get a 64gig sd to work correctly in them?
i have, universal boost apn fix an all the stock s3 and ndc modem updates. all flashed none worked but remember i think that phone had a problem. thanks

So you are on Sprint as your carrier? If you are, you don't need any apn fix.
1. cm12.1
Just get the latest nightly, do not get the cyanogen recovery (it's useless)
2. Get a gapps package. I use http://opengapps.org choose arm , 5.1, then the size package you want.
3. If you are on boost, then use the boost apn fix, if sprint don't bother.
4. modem-firmware fix
Boot to recovery, make a backup of system, data, and boot.
Then wipe/advanced wipe and choose system, data, cache and dalvik. Do not wipe internal or external storage. Then install the files in the order I gave them.
Then reboot, and sit tight.

You should have already gotten the updates, do not flash any modems or anything. The ndc modem is not for the triband, throw it away.

Alternately, you can flash octos m , it's built for the triband. octos
Its a good rom too. If you use that one instead of cm12.1, then you don't need the modem-firmware fix. Just rom and gapps.
But read through their thread first. Their instructions may have changed. And dont be afraid to ask questions there, the developer is incredibly helpful. You will also encounter other triband owners.

Philz is old and outdated. Most newer roms and rom updater scripts require twrp. It is the most advanced recovery out there. You don't need efs backup. Just system, data, and boot.
Octos is a good rom, it's based on cm. Then they add a bunch of their own features. And they are the only developers that currently build a rom specifically for the triband s3. And they offer support for triband users.

I asked if you were on Sprint as your carrier because many carriers run on sprints network. Boost, virgin mobile, ting, freedompop, just to name a few. And if you're on any of those you need their apn fix.

NAG, NAG, ok, you win, ill put twrp back on. its impossible to know all those little do's and don'ts to install this stuff unless i guess you were getting it as the stuff was being developed. i think i tried octos and it wouldnt load some time ago but, once again, you are changing my mind.you are the first person ive met as patient and full of information as anyone could ever want. i've really enjoyed this and ive learned a lot. so if im going to go with octos i don't need cm12 at all right or like kt747 or whatever that was you had to load it with a base system, right? im going to do this tonight so you might want to shut your computer off, haha. just tell me what exactly to do with octos, and, can i just load all this stuff into the zip cue and it will load in the order i load it in right? cm12 really isn't that big of a deal. i really think 80% of my problem was that phone.but not knowing that and trying time after time to do different things and failing gets confusing.that fixing modem symlinks is that going to be an iMG file? twrp will install it? ok if there is a file we've missed or something let me know. i'll do this tonight and tell you how it goes.

If you want octos, forget cm12. You won't need a modem fix either. Just rom and gapps. Get the build for d2refresh (that's the triband). If you want cm12, then you need modem fix, it's just a zip you flash along with rom and gapps.
Just go to the thread that says octos m for d2refresh. It has everything you need. They just put up a new build.
