Wifi broken - how to fix?

Hi,

I've rooted my phone and now wifi will not turn on. If not for the fact that I must have wifi working so I am not charged for the *extensive* roaming I do, I'd not say anything. Alas, it's a *big* problem for me.

First, I tried the unified toolkit method to root. It was successful, but this is where I first found wifi not working. I went back to factory install, but still had no wifi. So, I opted to try your method (from your qbking site at how-to-root/root-samsung-galaxy-s-iii), which worked beautifully and I am rooted right now, but still no wifi.

I really hope you've encountered this and have a fix! If not, there's tons of us noobs out there looking for how to get around this problem. Maybe it should be added to the FAQ once found?

Thanks!

~Jayme

Rooted or not rooted has nothing to do with wifi. It should not affect it all. Have you tried the thread where you found the tool kit version of rooting? I personally can't stand tool kits.

Hahaha - yah, I tried to post to the toolkit thread, but xda won't allow me to comment in the dev threads until I've got at least 10 posts. So, I'm stuck looking elsewhere. :(

Ok and you still have no wifi? If not then using the same QB King method to unroot and return to stock do it. Odin back to all stock unrooted. Make sure update profile and prl and make sure wifi is working on all stock unrooted. Once you get that then follow the qbking77 root video for the Team Epic Root method again. But first let's get wifi connected.

EDIT: actually someone recommended flashing another kernel. That may work if the tool kit messed with it.

Used QB King method to unroot and return to stock. However, it starts to load - I get the Samsung screen, then Samsung Galaxy SIII screen, then it goes to a black screen with a little blue light pulsating at me near the top. But the screen is black. It just stays there. It's been there for the last 5 minutes. Shall I try again?

Pull the battery reboot it and see if it starts. If not pull battery again and reflash the rom via odin.

What he said! Next time, don't use a toolkit, this phone is easier to root without it anyways...

Plus don't you have to do the factory reset before the OS will load after unrooting? Its been awhile I forget what all I did at the time...

Has anyone been able to get Part B in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30682712 (as linked from post 1, above) to work on a Sprint phone? The link is to a Verizon thread, and when I try to run that script it fails because my Sprint S3 isn't unlocked. :)

Since Sprint S3s don't have a locked bootloader, there's nothing to unlock.
you don't need to do b, only a... a backs up the efs, which is what that party of the faq was trying to accomplish

The prl write enable method for aosp no longer works on the newer 3.4 kernel builds. I am hoping someone with the requisite skills can get it working again but until it is, the prl write method I originally pointed you to is dated as of ~3/16.

Still works on 3.0 kernels fine though ;) I will make a note that it doesn't work on 3.4 kernels as of yet

flastnoles11, I previously posted in here inquiring about a call record mod. Do you think it's likely that the one for the International SGS3 would work with our phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091959)? I've also found a link on Blazer ROM LJ7, which I know is very old now that we're on MD4, but was wondering if you might know if that would work, too.

Hyperdrive RLS11 ROM seems to have a call record function built in, but I don't have the first clue about how to extract it :(

Don't know anything about call record mods... the only way to see if the international one would work is to find out, but I'm most definitely not flashing anything from the international (even though I'm 90% sure the mood won't needs anything up, I just don't need it) I also don't think you can extract it from the Rom, it's probably built in deeper than just an app...

Try out the zip in the blazer Rom, if it works awesome, if not, keep looking I guess... but if out worked on lj7 it may still work, may not also, but it's worth a shot
