Hi, I just got my (Sprint model) Galaxy SIII in today and after discovering that you can't even change the default apps in the launcher at the bottom (ARRRRGGH), I knew I would have to install custom firmware on this thing.

I've followed the instructions in the wiki precisely (except I executed heimdall from a directory in my home folder containing the clockworkmod image) and heimdall reports that it was successful. However I can't for the life of me get it to boot into CWM recovery. When I hold VolUp+Home+Power, the phone appears to attempt to boot into the Samsung stock recovery mode, but fails to. (I see the Samsung splash screen with "RECOVERY BOOTING" in blue text at the top, but then the phone proceeds to either power off or display the battery icon that indicates its charging.

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit and have been using Heimdall v1.4.0 from the command line. I would very much appreciate any help you could provide!

You could just use a custom Launcher to set whatever you want on whichever screen.

Well, I want to get rid of any bloatware as well.

Anyway, I tried a different method: I rooted my phone and installed goomanager. I'm now getting the "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." error after booting. After some googling I've determined I must have the wrong version of gapps downloaded. I'm using version gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip, which is the version reccomended at this link: ach tee tee pee ://goo.im/gapps.

Is this not the correct version?

Are you on the stock Rom? If so you shouldn't have flashed gapps, they are already on your phone stock... gapps are only for aosp roms, you'll probably have to install a different rom to fix it

Thanks for the help! So is there a way to wipe the installation from TeamWin and install just the ROM without google apps?

EDIT: No, I'm not on the stock ROM, I sucessfully installed 10.1 RC5- I'm just getting the "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped." dialogs after booting.

EDIT2: Ok, I reflashed with just the 10.1 ROM, and now I can boot into Cyanogenmod no problem, but I still don't have the google apps. I can just download an .apk online if I find the right verion, correct?

Don't know then, that should be the correct gaps you flashed........ factory reset in twrp, reflash the Rom and gapps and you should be good, sounds like you may not have done a clean flash which is absolutely required when switching from tw to aosp

Sorry mods if this wasn't the best thread to post in, but I figured "WYH DOSE MY CYNAMOD NOT WORKING?!" was a pretty frequently asked question ;)

A tip for people having trouble getting into recovery mode- make sure you release Home+VolUp+Pwr the second as you see the text indicating you're entering recovery mode. Otherwise, the phone interprets the continued holding of the Power button to mean it's time to (shut down/restart) the phone. For a while there I was freaking out because I couldn't for the life of me get into recovery mode, it turns out this was the problem.

Thanks for the help again, I'm loving CM. The Launcher is amazing- I love having three drawers at the bottom- really helps with clutter on my home screens. I like Apollo much better than the stock music player on my old phone (or Google's app for that matter.)

Cheers to the CyanogenMod devs. :highfive:

I was use to the Evo radio flashing so excuse my noob - ness. Here's what I'm trying to do I wanna flash the axis rom which is built using mb1. Just to be safe I would wanna use the mb1 modem. Can I flash the mb1 modem then the rom in the same recovery process. Or do I need to flash the modem reboot then the rom?
*I'm on a md4 rom now. With matching modem.

Again sorry I just haven't found a straight answer I read op 's that say modem should match and some people say it doesn't matter.

It doesn't really matter, I would stay with the modem you are on. It is completely independent. They do not have to match at all save yourself doing things that are not necessary on Samsung devices.

Last question if someone can be so kind. I always have issues flashing those universal roms, synergy, hyper drive, axis. I keep getting minor issues 4g, wifi, reboots. I know I wipe everything because I do the same process with cleanrom, stock rooted. And it works. Am I missing something?

First time I tried axis it worked flawlessly. Thus the modem question earlier I thought It needed to match.
Only guess is maybe the ziggy kernel not working properly on my phone, but it worked once. So I'm kind of lost.

If you just flash the modem and not the all-in-one package. The modem firmware is independent of the OS. I ran that for awhile, then MD4, then LJ7... Back to MD4 now.

You can flash the mb1 AIO while on md4, just did it yesterday actually... the AIO just contains the modem and bootloader so you can flash anyone of them

Thanks for the info. I read on another forum about how that can cause problems. But I trust your posts over anyone!
