Every Sprint kernel (not many to choose from) causes the same problem-my phone gets stuck on the boot logo screen. What would cause this?

Well, that would explain a lot..... 4.3 must be new to the sprint platform then. Just got the phone a week ago. None of the downloads mention what version of android they are forThere are no kernels for 4.3
Once we get kernel source then we can have some custom kernels
