Before I rooted, it said "Factory Mode“ but now says "Modified“. I haven't touched anything else other than flashing CWM and Superuser.
Lol really that's not modifying it?
You must have a different definition of modified. It's a risk we all take when we want root.

I'm just concerned about whether that Device Status field in the About Phone settings is something that is stored underneath the OS and can't be changed once you flash something. This would be an easy indicator that the phone has been messed with and clear void of warranty for normally clueless reps even if you do a return to stock type flash. Before I rooted, it said "Factory Mode“ but now says "Modified“. I haven't touched anything else other than flashing CWM and Superuser.
If your worried that store is gonna be like wtf your rooted? GTFO!!!!! No Sprint is pretty kewl with root they never mentioned it when they had my phone rooted

I know I modified it. I'm just trying to point out this phone has an obvious flag to service reps that the device has been tampered with and your warranty is technically void that I haven't seen before on other phones I've had. Now if odining a stock tar changes this back to "factory mode", then this obviously isn't an issue. Good to know that Sprint is pretty decent about rooted phones anyway, so maybe it's not a big deal either way. Still makes me curious if it's possible to reset it though or if it's permanently going to say "modified" forever now.

Also I'm just trying to make people aware of it who might be hesitant about rooting their brand new phone.

True true lol With HTC you S-on and boom back to normal. With my Galaxy Nexus locked the boot and good to go as well.

Although when I traded in my Gnex to bestbuy i forgot to remove superuser lol.

I can't link the thread from my phone, but on the et4g forum, but sprint doesn't care if you rooted or bricked due to it. The thread has a quote to the change in policy where sprint said rooted is fine, but jail breaking is red flagged.
