Sprint Oneplus 8 5G Bootloader unlock?

I"d leave it all for now. Once you unlock, i'd recommend switching to global rom anyway. It receives updates faster and modem is better than tmo. even without standalone 5g.
And when you do that, you'll eliminate most of the bloat.

Got it, I have some Google apps disabled, from within settings, but haven't touched Sprint stuff just in case i need something like "My Sprint" or some Daemon in order to register for unlocking or something.

Does the global ROM have T-mobile"s 5g enabled? I am on sprint with the T-Mobile oneplus 8 5g. I'm currently awaiting my bootloader unlock bin file (I applied last week).

Thanks for any assistance.

Cheers,
B.D.

Did you have any issues with getting the SIM unlock from Sprint? Assuming you have a fully paid off device?

I did not have any issues. But it did take the 30 days with the device on the network before they would unlock it and then another 7 days to get the unlock code.

I also purchased the device from TMO, as this thread stated that they cannot (will not?) Unlock a device that is not one of their own and I did not want to risk it.

B.D.

I was reading on other threads where people were saying that Sprint was flat out refusing to unlock devices, period. But it also sounded like they were all financed phones too...I haven't yet seen anyone with a paid off phone/paid full price upfront in any of these unlocking threads, and didn't want to risk dropping $800 on something that I might not be able to get unlocked without at least finding someone else that has succeeded, lol.

The other part was that I was reading that Sprint was only activating phones sold by them, and I couldn't find a solid answer whether "sold by them" also included Tmobile sold phones, or if it was ONLY phones that were bought from within Sprint's system...i.e., do I HAVE to buy this thing via the Sprint website, or can I waltz into a Sprint turned Tmo store, and buy one right now? I've also seen a few BNIB Tmo 8T's being sold on Craigslist & Swappa that I've been considering buying to save a few bucks, but that circles back to "Is Tmo sold OK, or did it have to specifically come from Sprint?"

So sounds like yes, I can buy one from a Tmo store and be OK, and presumably, as long as the phone came from Tmo (as opposed to direct from OnePlus), I should be OK with a CL/Swappa phone as well, though I'd be sure to run the MEID through the Sprint BYOD checker before purchase.

Yes. I'm technically on sprint, but bought my phone (flat out) from a TMo store. It's a pain to wait the 30 days, but I do like the oneplus more than I thought I would after coming from a pixel 3xl.

My biggest complaint was watching my battery, as I do not like to charge it above 80% to preserve it. I use ACC/ACCA to keep it charged only to 80%, but this requires root/magisk, so the 5+ weeks (30 days on sprint/TMO to await the unlock and then 7 more days to get the oneplus unlock code) seemed like forever.

Hope this helps.

B.D.

It absolutely did. That explained more for me in one post than 3 weeks of searching various forums has prior, lol. I too run a few apps that require root to work, and not having them basically makes a phone a really expensive MP3 player for me otherwise. I should be making a stop at a store sometime this week for my new phone now.

Thanks much!

Once you are rooted and unlocked, I'd suggest switching to the Global rom for future proofing the device.

I just did this last night and it was fairly painless.

There's a thread on switching to global. In that thread there is a reply to my post. That reply is a very concise guide to flashing over to global and updating to A11. Regaining root is also simple. Use Magisk Canary and download the stock boot image for global. Patch that stock boot using Magisk Canary.

Reboot to fastboot and flash patched_magisk.img to boot_a AND boot_b

Reboot.

Enjoy root and Magisk.

I also recommend flashing the xXx Magisk rom. Will re-enable VoWiFi and VoLTE for global rom!

Can you share the link? to switch to global

To get started goto: Settings > WiFi&Network > SIM&Network >Network Unlock. After thats done, go get your unlockcode.bin file from the the Oneplus website. It took me exactly 1 week to get my code. Then head over to the Verizon OP8 root guide. I can't find the link for Verizon root guide but i saw it before. Here is a useful link incase something goes wrong, u can bring your phone back to life: Verizon OP8 MSM TOOL. Good luck bro.

Goto the OP website and try to get your unlock.bin token. You can also call up verizon and tell them that your a developer and need your phone unlocked for work purpose or something.

Also the MSM Tool is good if you brick your phone or anything goes wrong, u can recover from it in most cases. So don't be scured 😁

I'm also IN2017 on the Internet on Sprint. I don't know how to unlock the network lock, so I can't carry out root and OEM. I can only watch videos and music with OP8, just like pads. Can anyone help me?

I am on Sprint, can i buy the oneplus 8 5g from a sprint or tmobile store? Will they be the same? Also is there a oneplus 8 5g pro?
They are the same phone but you need a Sprint sim if you're using Sprint for your carrier. There is an 8 Pro but it's not available through any carrier in the US. You need to buy it from OP or Amazon. I don't think it'll work on Sprint as it's not an approved device. It will work on t-mobile This will all change after August when they begin merging customers.

Edit: The OP8 is the exact same phone, IN2017, on both networks.
