Ok... so here are my gripes and likes so far...

Gripes:

1) Audio quality on phone calls is terrible. Both on my wife and my own phones. Its very muffled sounding and people have a hard time hearing us. Even recording the voicemail greeting makes it muffled on the playback.

2) Touchwiz is crap. I really dislike how much they changed the base ICS OS. I really can't wait for CM9 to be ready so I can install it and get rid of this crap.

3) Smart Stay is apparently made for people with vision problems. Unless I have the phone about 12 inches from my face, it doesnt recognize that I am looking at it and doesnt disable the screen timeout. I see the little "Eye am watching you" icon but it just doesnt recognize me.

4) S Voice has a hard time with word recognition... and again I think this attributes to the sound quality issues I am getting with the phone calls.

Likes:

1) Phone is very snappy and fast. I really like how quick it works and flips through things. Upgrading from the N1 and I can really see a difference.

2) Camera seems pretty good. I am not as blown away as I was when I used the camera on my N1 for honeymoon pix in Florence Italy, but still very clear none the less.

3) Battery life is aaaaaamazing to me. My N1 would only last maybe 8 hours on standby with little data use. If I put it on airplane mode it would last about 12-14. This phone seems to last 12 hours with phone calls and data use and is still going strong. Ive used it so far this morning for streaming music, using apps, downloading apps, random screen use and a couple phone calls (only 10 minutes or so) and the battery is still at 85% after 4 hours.

So far that is it... really bummed with the audio but hopefully its a patch or something that can be fixed. Unless its somehow just the phone my wife and I both have and no one else notices it....then wtf.

Audio seems pretty good through system speakers, haven't tried using through receiver or anything.

Face recognition does not work for me either, maybe have to turn it on? The little eye comes on but no workee.

Anyone have Odin and or drivers for adb to push recovery?

Camera sucks compared to evo lte, hopefully other roms, drivers, will fix this...

Maybe try adjusting some of the settings?

phonescoop.com:
The dialer offers a killer set of custom options that floored me a bit. When the dial pad is visible, tap the menu button and you'll see an options screen for the phone. It includes normal settings, such as call rejection behavior, alerts, answering/ending calls, setting up voicemail, and controlling the TTY functions. The best part if the In-Call Sound EQ Settings. These are incredible to customizing the sound of voice calls. You can turn on/off noise cancellation, as well as dial in your own preferences for volume, clarity, and warmth. Here's the best part: you can customize the behavior of the earpiece speaker depending on which ear you hold the phone to when making calls. It takes a moment to set up, but once you do, you'll be stunned by the difference in audio quality. Using these tools significantly improves in-call performance and boosts both devices into the "excellent" territory.

Maybe it's the soc or dual mics cuz the evolte is the same way as far as in call audio and a popping noise. The evolte really strayed away from base ics as well. The evolte will also lock screen while you are viewing video on web pages that is soooo retarded. I can't wait til I get my gs3 :(

Well I messed with the call EQ (which thanks for pointing it out... had no idea) and it seems to have cleared it up slightly. The incoming voice is still muffled sounding though. Its missing lots of the high end. I used both "clear voice" and "right ear"... and they are the same. Ill be trying the personalized one later.

EDIT: Well nevermind... I tried to do personalized and it only will let me if I have a headset plugged in. Kind of stupid considering I dont and wont ever use a headset for phone calls.

I wear hearing aids and this phone has the best call quality of any I've used since my BB days. Also, the rear speaker is much easier for me to understand that on any phone...again since my BB Tour.

I think it;'s great.

Personally I love the home button. No fumbling for an unlit capacitive key in the dark :)

Samsung has won me back. This is a stellar device. Unless I encounter some crazy reception issues when Im out and about, Im going to declare this the best phone Ive ever had and for anyone that knows me, thats huge. I am the most anti-Samsung person on the face of the pllanet.

The evos cam kills this one so im kinda bummed but im sure some software can clean it up a bit... Quadrant scores are all over the place and always worse than the evos factory benchmarks, to make things worse this beast gets real hot and starts lagging but as soon as i put it in the freezer for about five minutes it runs better scores, anywhere from 3400 when super hot to 5200 when not... i hope roms/kernels will also help this... There are some pretty neat features on this and sound is pretty wonderfull... wish i had a samsung tv, (lol, most of the guts are but labeled rca) i would love to play with the wireless transfer... Keep on talking people;)

Edit, having the same damn prl issues as evo lte as well, damn sprint... touchscreen seems a bit off too...

@Jefenton, im glad this device is good for you while some things kinda piss me off, lol, im glad it helps people like you as i will be there pretty soon, hearing loss from the war pretty bad, so the way this phone is set up is just that much better for the less than fortunate/senses a bit jacked... Do you use talk back?

Love to hear all opinions even when we all don't agree on the pros and cons... opinions are like aholes in the fact that we all have them but that analogy stops right there, lol, i take the good with the bad and bad with the good... Our newest devices rock and one persons junk is anothers treasure;-) Have fun with your phones and no bricking, k:p

Well, played more with it over the weekend...

Audio quality (used the ear buds to do the custom EQ) is slightly better. Maybe I am used to my Nexus 1 that sounded stellar to me. Could also be that I am used to a different carrier.

Signal.. seems to be very low regardless of where I am in the city, perhaps there is an issue with it around here or its the phone. Anyone else having signal issues?

Data roaming..
Ok.. so the data roaming notification is pissing me off. I have WiFi at the house and the phones are constantly on it, however until the Airrave gets here, we have 0 cell service in the house. So the phone CONSTANTLY tells me that I might get charged for data roaming if I use data. This part was new for me as the N1 would just use WiFi for data regardless of the service level if it was active. I turned off the Mobile Data feature and it STILL is chirping at me every couple minutes about roaming! *%(($*%!!!

Camera... works great. Used it a couple times over the weekend while golfing and got some good action shots in high quality.

GPS... damn this thing locks on fast! Wife and I drove out to a new dog park with the pup and had a hard time finding it. GPS on the phone locked on almost instantly and tracked us every 1 second along the route which was nice.

I am still waiting to get my phone on July 1st, coming from nexus s 4g, but as far as data roaming, go under the wireless settings, to mobile data, roaming, ur looking for an option called roam guard. If u turn off roam guard it won't altett u every time. It might also have roam notification or always roam options, mess with those as well. This is all on nexus s so I'm guessing its in gsiii too, good luck. Signal, might just be sprint signal, but hopefully its just indicator issue like previous phones. Best of luck on all the rest tho :)

Thanks for the info on the roaming alert...

So it seems that the reception issue isnt just a display thing. Ive driven all over our major highways and I never have above half. My wife drives around (shes the only one that really ever talks on it) and she drops calls left and right. My friend has the GS2 (or epic 4g touch, whatever they want to call it) and he has no problem with dropped calls or signal.
