Hi,

I have just got my first Redmi, im used toflashing samsungs, plese can someone point me at a guide on how to flash?

And links to TWRP etc thats needed. I have the stock rom rooted so i know what i am doingbut i cannot find anything on how to install the custom recovery and flash the roms!

thanks in advance
Hi,
First you need to unlock the bootloader via the Mi webpage. You need to wait, I think 7 days, for the unlock to clear. https://en.miui.com/unlock/
Once the bootloader is unlocked you can install a custom recovery. I use OrangeFox as TWRP is not maintained anymore. Have a look in the Rom section of the Redmi Note 9s/Pro(Indian). To install the OrangeFox recovery follow the instructions here: https://wiki.orangefox.tech/en/guides/installing_orangefox

Edit(forgot): Then when the custom recovery is installed just boot into the recovery and install the ROM of your choice :)

I would advice not to install crDroid 7.8 as it 'freezes' the phone after inactivity atm (Hotspot still works, but you cannot answer any calls, the screen stays black, you have to reboot to access the phone fully again). I use 7.6 and like it very much, but I had to reinstall MIUI first and install 7.6 'clean', even after downgrading from 7.8 to 7.6 or even down to 7.4 the 'freeze bug' stayed. So I strongly advice to avoid 7.8 for now.

Hi
It seems it goes on (Deep sleep), but this time it's forever until you physically reboot.

Have anyone tried the version from the crdroid website? if its the same there i wont even try.
I guess it would be the same on the crdroid page than via OTA. I would stay way clear of 7.8 for now. I had to do a complete 'clean' install of 7.6 to get rid of the 'deep freeze' (even downgrade from 7.8 -> 7.6 -> 7.4 = deep freeze stayed). Only flashing MIUI, reinstalling the OrangeFox and then 7.6 got rid of the 'deep freeze'.

You're wrong. The OTA updater of my official 7.6 version downloads the same version as the one crdroid.net links to. I can't find a direct link to the official 7.8 version in this thread. The 7.8 version subsequent to the one linked to in the OP of this thread, is an inofficial GApps version. There is no 7.8 vanilla version based on the one in the OP. I don't know why this thread was renamed to official, the original official thread is this one.

I mean Yeah, you are right, but i was talking about the "unofficial Updater" , wich you should have when you are using this Rom from this thread.

This stuff is so confusing, devs should really clarify.

The problem is the wrong title of this thread. I'm using the official 7.6 version and I intend to continue doing so for now. It's running without any major problems.

i've no idea whether it is relevant here. but sometimes with other ROMs what happens is the original maintainer of the official build drops off, and people who used to create unofficial builds fills-in in a official capacity to continue regular official builds, and they keep updating their old unofficial XDA thread to announce and users discuss new official builds.

and seriously all the active chatter is now in telegram, and yes according to the telegram channel 7.8 has its fair share of issues (earpiece high sound, etc.), stick to 7.6 if it is workin fine for you.

It might be irrelevant but it obviously leads to misundertandings and confusion. I honestly don't care whether I get the information I'm looking for on Telegram or in the forum, although I definitely prefer the forum due to usability reasons.

To me it's quite unexcusable that none of the maintainers said a single word about this version or it's issues on this forum. On none of the threads. Well I guess im going to wait for Android 12 version of crd, then maybe im going to bother with doing a clean flash.
Because what's the point of wasting time on trying to update right now? 7.6 is pretty much stable and with no issues, at least for me.

If you click on the official crDroid page on the button "Support/Forum" you end up here in this thread.

I agree it is a shame: none of the maintainers of this ROM have answered, not even to a private message here on XDA... I don't use telegram!

Thank you, I stand corrected then...
But the silence of the maintainers is just bad...
No mentioning if the deep sleep bug is solved now.
I would like to hear from them if they solved it.
In Telegram you get wayy more information.
I dont like this either - but you should also keep in mind, its not their Job and you can use the work All for free.

here is the summary of the situation from what little i know.

if you ve been here (XDA) long enough not all agree on the rules here are fair either (DU team). maintainers for devices come and go people who use to build on their own fill in for abandoned ROMS in official capacity all the time. just because SF project owners names differ from the actual builders doesnt mean anything. project owners welcome other people who join to aide in maintaining builds for devices they themselves do not.

if you have issues where active chatter is (where the active maintainers do join in the conversation), and refuse to join, it is your loss. these people are volunteers, you are not entitled with their choice way of communication with their users/community. and non of them deserves to do PR with some of the entitled people you find here all the time. and all those who are in telegram has non of the "kept in dark" issue that you have here. dont like how they operate, you are free to prove urselves better by building your own, and goin to the trouble of up-keeping the best traditions as you believe fit.

the stability issues (unable to wake after deep sleep, etc.) mentioned, from what i understand are all kernel related non got to do with crDroid (although earpiece issues are). most ROMs now, have the same issues and all ROM builders at this very moment are swapping around kernels to see which works best. from the looks of it, so is the build that went out yesterday. whether it worked out or not remains to be seen.
