[STABLE] LineageOS 17.1 for Galaxy S7 build 44

Right, so it's not just my bad luck but an actual issue. I think I'll stay on 16 for now, and wait till the next 17 update to see if it changes anything, or until 18 gets stable enough.

Strangely enough I just installed TWRP 3.5.0-9 and tried installing a 17.1 ROM and it booted fine. The ROM was not Ivan's but one of Ripee's updates (20210101). I went back and tried Ivan's last 17.1 and it would not boot. I have no idea what is different because I thought that Ripee used Ivan's base for his updates. I could be wrong about that because Ripee does not seem to put out much information on his ROM.

When using Video call the mic does not work in Viber and Duo. Whatsapp works. Viber and Duo work on sound only calls, but when switching to video the mic is not geting any sound from me.

For some reason, the ROM restarts back to recovery during the first boot, after a couple minutes of the loading Lineage logo, and just can't proceed any further. It's very strange, as both 16.0 and 18.1 work perfectly fine. I'm on a G930F and I've only been flashing nano GApps and Magisk along with the ROM, so nothing out of the ordinary. TWRP's log doesn't show anything strange, at least in a complete noob's eyes.

I have the same kind of issue. I solved it by flashing the gapps right after.
Sometimes some google apps (like Maps) won't start after that. Just uninstall and install again and it works. Maybe just clearing the app cache and user data would work.

Thank you @Ivan_Meler for keeping the S7 alive and its software current!
Do you still anticipate to make your builds official at any point? Currently herolte is mentioned to be unmaintained at LOS https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/herolte but there apparently there is very recent movement for LOS 17 and also 18:

There's also a mention of co-maintaining herolte in this profile https://github.com/fcuzzocrea. Looks promising!

Considering the previous releases were more less monthly, hopefully pretty soon.

Yes, there are monthly updates coming, but it looks to me like these are just security updates. Bug fixes no longer seem to take place.

I would like to know if the WiFi error that reproducibly occurs with me also occurs with others. For me, it always happens around 7:30 am in the morning. At this time, I synchronise a lot of data with the app "FolderSync" with Google Drive daily. And every 4-5 days, the WiFi connection drops during this synchronisation. It is reproducible and I get the message: Unable to resolve host "www.googleapis.com": No address associated with hostname. This has been the case since I started using this Release of LineageOS 17.1 on the Galaxy S7. Before that, on the S5 with LineageOS 14.1, it worked perfectly for years.

I once read out the dates on which the WiFi crash occurred:
12-21-2020, 7:41 am
12-26-2020, 7:27 am
12-31-2020, 7:05 am
01-04-2021, 7:40 am
01-08-2021, 7:24 am
01-11-2021, 7:00 am

The regularity with which this error occurs is striking! On the days not listed, by the way, the same transfer runs without any problems. The problem occurs regularly only every 3-5 days.

Edit (01-11-2021): Today the WiFi crash occurred even without a transfer. Just like that while the smartphone was on standby. It apparently has nothing to do with the data transfer.

If the connection is lost, WiFi remains on, but not a single WiFi network is found anymore, the list is empty:



If I then manually switch WiFi off and on again straight away, all access points are found instantly and the smartphone also connects to my network immediately:



Are there others who have a similar or the same problem while transferring larger amounts of data via WiFi?

The last update (07/01/21) blocked my phone
I have a black screen after using the password
Wipe Dalvik and cache change nothing for me :/
I used lineage updater

Edit : I installed the 27/12/20 version with twrp and my s7 works again

The opening post of this thread still references the 12-11-2020 version. Please only comment on this version from Ivan Meler in this thread and not on others, otherwise it will be total chaos here!!!!

Some reported problems with the microphone here. I can now also confirm this. In the middle of a phone call, I switched the smartphone from one ear to the other. While I was doing this, the display went to full brightness and the microphone suddenly stopped working. I could still hear the person I was talking to, but she could no longer hear me. I had to end the conversation and call her back, then it worked again. But the automatic control of the display brightness no longer worked. I had to switch it off and on to get it to work again. I've had this happen three times now. So it is also a bug in the current release.

So there are some bugs in this release that don't always occur, but only once in a while. However, if the microphone and WiFi don't work reliably, that's a knockout criterion. Something needs to be done about this. I don't really want to have to wait for Android 18.1 to work reliably. :-/

I do not think that it is the Rom but the device because Samsung have installed different components.
Can you remember then there were problems with the camera under los 14.1. Since Samsung had installed two waste cameras. In its S7 versions

Samsung is the problem and not the Rom And that is my opinion .

That's right, both camera modules in the S7 are really crap. Significantly worse than the one in the S5. But if the whole thing is a hardware problem, it should occur in all Android versions. Does it do that?

I could imagine it might be a Kernel problem too. Are there any custom kernels that could be tested together with this Rom?

As you can read in the last few posts, it is unfortunately not stable. If phone calls are interrupted due to the microphone problem and the WiFi connection is lost, you cannot speak of stable.
