♠♠♠[SteelROM RevI.2]♠♠♠ UPDATED 12/24 v3.70.651.1 │Rooted│ DeOdexed

The goal of this ROM was to provide a deodexed stock ROM without anything removed or themed to allow users to do whatever they want to a stock ROM.

NOTICE: If you flash a theme and something breaks, keep in mind it wasn't broken before you flashed the theme.

Do a nandroid backup first! You should always wipe before flashing a ROM!

I use AmonRa recovery, never gives me problems.
Use Clockwork at your own risk as it has been reported countless times to not wipe dalvik cache properly.

SteelROM RevI.2 Mirror

aamikam - invaluable help and his kick ass base ROM ReEngineered 3.70.651.1 (I learned a lot from it & use several of his cleaned up APKs!)

netarchy - kernel information
dsixda - the one and only kitchen
ChainsDD - superuser (need I say more?)

snq- 4-in-1 reboot MOD

Total noob question, but what does it mean that this is "deodexed" and "zipaligned"?

I flashed this after flashing the Odexed version and am having the same problem. When I open the messages app (text messaging) it refuses to give me a keyboard.

Any idea what would cause this to happen?

Thanks guys.

stupid question but i have to ask since i have never asked before.

can i just open the zip file and delete all the sprint/HTC crap APK's that i dont want or use.
nascar, nfl, teeter, friendstream, etc etc etc.

i usually use root explorer and just rename them within the phone once i am flashed but if i can do it within the zip file before i flash that would be cool.

You sure can. But I resign the zip file after changing anything inside of it just for good measure. I've never tried to flash with original signing after changing something.

I tried installing and received an error:

E:Can't Symlink system/xbin/zcip
E:Failure at line 63:
Symlink busybox SYSTEM:xbin/zcip

I installed the unofficail release just fine, so I'm not sure what this is all about. I did a full wipe before installing.

Full wipe and and then reboot into your recovery and try again.

If you installed the unofficial release then you are no longer rooted... thats probably your problem

Full wipe and and then reboot into your recovery and try again.

I did a full wipe twice (data/factory reset ,Dalvik-cache) and tried installing when I got the error. So I tried the wipe and installation again and got the same error.

If you installed the unofficial release then you are no longer rooted... thats probably your problem

I should have clarified, I flashed the rooted unofficial release that came out on Friday.

Thanks for the responses though!

RevI.2 posted (yes I was bored!)

Someone asked about zipalign on boot, so I added it. (Keep in mind ALL APKs are already zipaligned in the cooked ROMs) I guess this is if you add any???

Moving dalvik over to the unsed cache partition frees up quite a bit of space on the system partition (so you app whores can install more and more apps!)

    Enjoy!

So glad I didn't update because of this very thing :)
I use the "services_no_battery_no_clock.zip" that Steel created eons ago to hide the battery icon and the clock. New blockbuster app be damned but I am not giving up my notification tray space!

    Here you go.

Yup... didn't take me too long to figure that out. :p So any chance of getting the Black bar lockscreen? Stock lockscreen bums me out. Fugly!

    Try flashing this.

Clock, battery, and rosie mods from manup456, but he hasn't updated them in quite some time, and all of his download links are dead.

The clock and battery are done in post #1161. And is that Rosie just different icons? If so I can do that easily.
