Status 7 Fix...I Hope???

@craichead See what I mean by finicky? lol. Both the charger and SD cards can prevent power on and booting.

I am having the status 7 error still after I loaded the recovery listed above. I luckily loaded my sd card with all the files needed for CM11 and CM10.2 into different folders so when the status 7 error popped up I was able to load the CM10.2 instead just fine. Looks like we need a direct link for the 3 files from goo.im instead of a link to a page that has the link on it to some other link :silly:
So, I did some digging around for Status 7 issues and I've modified this ROM cm-11-20140129-NIGHTLY-ovation Status 7 fixed.zip so that it should install without the Status 7 error. If one of you wants to try it. Alternatively, you can modify the ROM of your choice by following this Guide

Note: To dowload the files from my links just click the link in my post, then click the SAVE ALL button on the dowload page. Clicking the file name is for previewing (for security) or dowloading files from within the folder. I use Copy.com online storage and my files ARE the exact same as if you downloaded them from their original source.

Yeah, you were definitely right. I have a question about your modified script...I read through the thread that you referenced to see what the solution was. It seemed that all it proposed to do was to delete the first few lines of the script up to the first semicolon. However, it looks like the script in your file is slightly different than the one I have. After deleting those lines, the first line in my file reads as follows:

mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk1p2", "/system");

The first line in your file reads as follows:

mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/system", "/system");

Do you know what these differences mean?

Not sure, but maybe my nightly is newer or older than yours? I found this http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...possibly-aid-galaxy-nexus-kitkat-development/ and it seems to refer to a GPU driver for tablets. If anything you're better off modifying your own file. But, if you are stuck it wouldn't hurt to try to install my modified ROM.

[Edit]: @craichead lol, OMAP is the Nook HD's processor's name (1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor). I just saw it on the Nook's Homepage here on XDA. It's funny how I see things once I open my eyes:silly:

I followed OP instructions and got kit kat running (thanks!), but i'm looking to squeeze the max out of my nook hd+

for those who've tried both, how does the kitkat build compare to CM10 performance wise? obviously kit kat is newer and sexier, but maybe cm10 performs better on the relatively weak hardware?

thanks

ps: to try cm10, can I just reboot into recovery and flash the cm10 zip?

No, CM11 and CM10 are not backwards compatible. To go backwards start over with a different CWM (from the dummies thread) and use that to do a factory reset and install things fresh.

I would also like to know, I tried the kk sd card on my nook a few weeks earlier when it first came out but went back to CM10.1. I think it was hogging too much resources on my HD+. I'd like to try the latest emmc kk when I have time.

KitKat vs CWM 10

I just like to play around with this stuff, so I change just for the sake of doing it. KitKat worked well for me, and I'll return to it. The only downside I observed (but can't document) is that it appeared to drain the battery a bit more quickly.

It's fun to try, but I don't think you'll find any life-changing improvements in KitKat. It's more evolutionary, than revolutionary.

I was wondering how long the battery lasts. (Ijust got my Nook HD+ ) I'm on KitKat of course and I'm enjoying it, compared to stock. I've never had CM 10 to compare. However, battery life seems to be great; phantom storage usage is my issue.
@leapinlar - There are at least 10Gb of space that I cannot find on my Nook. I've had this problem on my Atrix HD before and turned off the Recycle Bin function in ES File Explorer and deleted those files. I found them using ES's own SD Card Analyst feature. I was wondering if anybody has seen this before. I know the system reserves aroun 5Gb's but this is not that. I, Going to try a full wipe and format on the system, cache and data partitions, then restore from a nandroid.

The issue is you probably had a bunch of media files stored when you were running stock. An ordinary wipe with CWM does not delete those and they are hidden from the CM internal SD. You can either use your root file explorer and go to /data/media and erase all files there except those in the 0 folder (those are your CM media files). Or you can boot to CWM and go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'. That wipes everything. The first option is best if you don't want to start over.

When I bought my nook, I did one update, one nandroid backup then flashed CyanogenMod 11. So that rules that out. However, following your advice I browsed /data/media and found my clockworkmod backup folder. Lol. I backed up to internal before I updated my recovery and was able to backup to external. Totally forgot to erase those backups after copying them to ext SD. Thanks for your attention in this matter

I tried the "Status 7" error fix (by removing those first few lines) and got a "Status 6" error. I then used Notepad++ to change the newline characters back to Unix format, but then I returned to the "Status 7" error. I then re-downloaded the CM11....emmc.zip file and tried it again. This time, it said that it installed successfully, but it was awfully quick (less than 30 seconds). I rebooted and got stuck at the rotating arrow Cyanogenmod screen. I let it sit there for nearly 30 minutes before giving up and powering it off. Tried it again, no difference. Any more ideas?

I don't know who recommended you remove the first few lines as a fix, but you should never do that. Those lines are there to protect you from flashing an inappropriate ROM to your device. You may have bricked your device by doing that.

It's not bricked. I removed those first few lines based on the recommendation provided in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302599

Well, you are lucky then. You should NEVER do that, especially with our devices where it is easy to mix up HD and HD+ devices. I have helped Nook Color users who removed those lines when they tried to flash a Nook Tablet ROM to a Nook Color. Bricked the unbrickable device.

Point taken; I was just following what appeared to me to be legitimate advice. Anyway, I'm not going to go that route again. Do you have any ideas on what I could try next?

I would suggest you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new bootable CWM SD per item 1a. That is version 6028. Use that to flash the plain stock zip from item 6, followed by a factory reset with CWM. That should fix you. Then you can start over. And btw, there are now official nightly builds for CM11 on the cyanogenmod site. But unless you are burning to go to CM11, I recommend you stay with CM10.1 or CM10.2. Follow the dummies guide. CM11 is not yet ready for prime time and the CWM you have to use just gets you into trouble.

If I can get into recovery, do I still need to go through all that stuff (flashing stock, etc.) just to be able to start over?

Not if the recovery is 6045 or higher. That is the source of your problems.

But you have an older version of CWM working, you can try without flashing stock first, but my advice is to do stock first.

Thank you for your help, leapinlar. I went ahead and installed CM 10.2 and it's working!

Side note: every time I unlock the screen, it opens the web browser. I'm wondering if there's a setting for that some place...

EDIT: Um, so yeah, I don't have a lot of words for this. It is one of the more boneheaded moments of mine. The web browser opens when I unlock the screen because - wait for it - that's what I told it to do. Whoulda thunk it?

Evidently, I'm not used to this version of the unlock screen. =)

Hey everyone -

Thanks OP for the great guide on rooting the tablet. I followed all the steps and successfully rooted the tablet to run the latest version of Kit Kat for my girlfriend.

However, when she was using certain apps if she would hit a certain key it would cause the device to automatically reboot. Because of this jankiness, I decided the best thing to do would be to restore the Nook OS until I could figure out what was going on. Unfortunately after restoring the backup of the Nook OS I made the device is now caught in some kind of bootloop (the word "Nook" will come up for a bit, the screen will go dark, and "Nook" will come back up again.. rinse and repeat).

I can still access CWM-based Recovery but I'm not really sure where to go next. I've tried to wipe and restore multiple times with no luck.
