Youre VERY wrong about the battery...

"I charged the phone to 100% one morning. I read email, went on youtube for 10 minutes, surfed the net and made one call that lasted 2 minutes. This whole session lasted 20 minutes. The battery drained to 87%, I kid you not!"

i am still using the m20x for 4 years now, and i'm still loving it. i did go back to emui 11 however, because it is more to my liking. emui 12 is utterly rubbish, in my opinion. just sad that the phone is stuck on android 10

revanced works wonderfull and with adguard as private dns server, i don't have any ads anymore, at least 99,99% of the time. and of course, the built in call recorder (must install separately) is one of the features, i can't do without.

i am using niagara launcher, wich is me favourite. but launcher 10 also works well and looks very good on the phone.

my next phone will most likely be a foldable, but only when they become more mainstream and the prices come down.... a lot!

There is no native built in call recorder on the phone..

yes there is, fortunately.

you have to install the call recorder apk though, but it is the native call recorder, extracted from roms where it is built in.

you can find the apk's here on xda.

No theres not, unfortunately.

You have to install the call recorder apk, a separate program.

The recorder icon on the prompt is just a button. No native call recorder UNTIL you install the CR apk.

Hello everyone,
I'd really like to buy this phone, I know it's about 4 years old.
I have some questions about the compatibility with different apps.
Does the Nova Launcher works on this ? I don't care about Gestures ....
What about the YouTube Vanced and AoD Notify ?
Are there some custom ROMs ?
What are the cons right now, here in Europe ( Germany ) with this mobile phone ?
I do not care about 5G. 4G should be more than enough for me.
Any advices are welcome, thank you

I can't really answer most of your questions as they don't apply (I'm in the US, don't use Nova, no idea about AoD Notify), but I bought the international 4g version when it first came out in 2018, and I've been using it since.

It still runs great, although I have mine rooted w/ bootloader unlocked so stuff like adblock etc is working great... I did have to use root to fix VoLTE on AT&T in the US, but other than that I can't think of any other issue I had with it in the 5ish years I've had it.

Unfortunately you won't find many (if any) custom roms for it because "real" unlocking of the bootloader on it was basically impossible except for a couple of brief periods of time... I think I saw one custom rom, but that was it.

Apparently some workaround for "pseudo" unlocking the bootloader was found for older software versions, but it probably happened too late for any real devs to work on this device... and the "pseudo" unlock probably wouldn't even be usable for really developing roms on this device.

TL;DR: I haven't found a better phone to use, the screen size and screen to body ratio is amazing on this phone, all software I've tried runs perfectly.

i don't know about speaker quality, there was however, a time that one of the updates caused the volume to be a bit lower than previous version, but i did not noticed it much.

yes, you can use HiSuite to rollback to earlier versions.

If I rollback to ver 9, is there a way to modify the phone to put in dark mode like the settings and all other parts also?
i am on emui 11 for over a while now and as far as i know, dark mode is a standard feature. you can find it it the settings>screen and brightness menu.

i am not sure about emui 9 though.

I assume youre using emui 9 that allows bootloader unlock. If so, what hack do you use to use dark mode in the setting, if anys?

Hows your battery life? SOT time?
Sorry for the delay, don't come to this website often.

Yes, I'm still using EMUI 9.

I do have an actual unlock code (so can unlock the bootloader with "fastboot oem unlock CODE") but I read somewhere that upgrading to EMUI 10 relocks the bootloader and also removes the unlock command from fastboot so I can't actually use my legit code etc.... so I never tried upgrading past EMUI 9.

I don't use dark mode, so not sure I can help you there... I did check and there is an option that makes the phone dark that seems to work (it's this https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/faq/have-you-tried-the-new-dark-interface-from-emui-9/), but if you're looking for something specific I can check.

As for battery life or SOT, it's not really something I've measured, only thing I can tell you offhand is that I charge every 2 to 4 days... I look at it when I go to sleep, and if it's under 50% I charge it that night.

There is a native call recorder but you need the Chinese ROM for it, he is talking about taking that feature from Chinese ROM and putting it in the global ROM, not sure why thats so difficult for you to understand.

All Chinese phones have built in call recorder, but the EU banned this around 2016 because of "privacy concern" whatever that means. Because of that, all phones sold in EU has to comply, no call recorder, not even third party are allowed.

Thats why a lot of people prefer using Ukrainian regional ROM on most phones like Samsung because SURPRISE Samsung TOO has call recorder, EXCEPT in Europe.

WRONG! I own the chinese variant with chinese rom and theres NO native call recorder on it. I dont understand why youre so ignorant about this.

Wrong again. Various countries in the EU have differing laws about call recording and are legal as long as certain conditions are met.

I have a 20x (l29), and have been waiting for something to upgrade to.
Tried the pixel 7 pro, ended up returning it.

The big screen is the #1 thing for me, and I still after all this time get pretty decent battery with it. My main gripes with it are the screen is hard to read in bright sunlight, and the camera just isn't up to par anymore.

My next phone is going is going to be a foldable that has a 'normal' aspect ratio outer screen and has GMS/android auto. Which at this point means either the Honor Magic V2 (the chinese one should get GMS in the next couple of months) or the oneplus open whenever that is.

Nova works, at least on global version.

I bought a second hand mate 20x after a Xiaomi mi mix, and it's the best choice for sure. There is no other screen like this. And everything works all right, all the software, cameras, battery for 2 days long... It's unbeatable in every way.

even with foldables you get a smaller video in 16:9 ratio and you always enjoy the full screen.

i have a book case and it's like a foldable but without the problems of battery, breakable, etc

Today I took yet another Mate 20X, always one of a kind.
Maybe only Vivo X Note comes close, but I haven't tried it.
