Thank you andrew, but that still doesn't answer my questions:

I am also interested in this question.

Has there been any case of someone bricking his phone from a non-rooted kernel using the factory reset from settings?

Also, is there any difference between using the factory reset with a non-rooted phone and a rooted one? (with no cwm).
The guy who bricked from settings, was he rooted or not?

Just updated to official ZSLPF last night on Kies. Doesn't seem as smooth as I had hoped, is it just me?

I've noticed my phone is more sluggish in responsiveness since the update. The phone also takes a much longer time to run "Media scanning" when the phone is first powered on than it took on GB (at least 15-20 seconds longer).

One very noticeable bug is when turning on the phone (or from reboot), the home screen wallpaper changes to the scrolling version even though I always set my wallpaper to the fixed version, and I have to re-apply it every time I reboot/turn on.

I've done 3 hard resets since the update and still no improvements in responsiveness or the wallpaper bug :(.

Is the official lpf same with the link file from first post? I am using the first post Ics rom and everything is OK except for mobile data can't open now after trying to tethering.

You hard reset 3 times in LPF and survive without hard brick? Good news.

I guess? I've read conflicting posts on threads here, some saying official LPF is safe and others saying it isn't?

Still, I would've expected after this long delay in rolling out the update that the stock ICS would at least be smoother than GB.

Try reflashing through PCodin and follow DrKetan's instruction to get full root and CWM again. I am running LPF with speedmod lastest kernel version 2 in great shape.

Apex launcher also works fine.

The new S Note is really powerful.

i follow dr ketan method all the while using pc-odin. anyway seems only me having the problem. dr ketan also not sure why.

the speedmod, u flash using pc-odin or tru cwm? do the warning triangle appear as this is modifying the kernal? can i still get updates from samsung?

edit
now i know why....................
Rooting
Download the Files first and put in your EXTERNAL SD
Reboot to stock recovery. - Shutdown your device completely, press and hold Vol Up + Power button + Home, releasing the power buttons once you see the Samsung GALAXY Note N7000 screen but continue to hold the Vol Up and Power buttons still until you enter recovery
Choose apply update from external storage. - Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
( From this point on, the volume rockers and power buttons do not work! It is now a Touch interface like how you use the phone normally )
Choose install zip from external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted....................

cannot use volume up/down but tap to choose.

now it works

Great to hear you can make it work.

I flash speedmod through mobile odin. Try not to do it in PC Odin as you will end up in that ugly triangle.

Me too, I am having the same problem not able to root, in blue recovery mode the screen keep refreshing.
I know can use pc odin to flash the cf-root but the triangle will appear.
Now stuck without root.

The latest official LPF is non-wipe. I started off very clean by flashing a GB rom, wipe and make sure it can boot. Then follow Dr.Ketan's way of installing and rooting the official LPF. Done 3 or 4 times switching between CM9, Asylum and Stock LPF and never got a problem.

Mine is case is abnormal.
I had flashed my N7000 with Chinese leak 9220LP5 and ended with Yellow Triangle & Binary counter.
I had encounter soft brick where I cannot reboot recovery except download and cannot flash anything except back to leak 9220LP5. Then flashed this stock ROM. phew.....
After flashing this stock ROM with pit/bootloader and everything with pc odin, the yellow trinagle disappeared. But flashing root with pc odin, the Triangle came back not mentioning the counter getting bigger now at abt 16.
I reboot into download and flash the stock ROM with pc odin again to get rid of the Yellow Triangle but cannot root base on the Dr. Ketan method.
ie:
1. reboot in recovery flash zip cwm zip.
2. waited till cwm appear but it keep refleshing itself. Tried many time still can get it working.

I found a way out.
1. Reboot in recovery.
2. Flash cwm and wait for it to appear.
3. Keep touching even though it refresh randomly until manage to move to install from sdcard, then flash the superuser.
4. reboot in recovery and again keeping touching until manage to move to install from sdcard then flash a rooted ics rom.

Now got a rooted ics custom rom.

OK, I followed your instruction and download the file, now question is how to flash it since I am already in ics? Is there a way for no wipe since I am already in ics? What steps to follow? Thanks in advance

I replied a few posts eariler. To avoid wiping in your existing ICS, You could try:

1) Flash a stock GB Rom through PC Odin.
2) Reboot to stock recovery and wipe from there.
3) Reboot the phone and make sure it can reboot properly.
4) Flash the LPF through PC Odin.
5) Follow Dr.Ketan's instructions to add CWM and root.

Option: I use Mobile Odin to flash Speedmod's latest ICS kernels, just to avoid that ugly triangle.

Yes and yes. I have no wifi problem with speedmod kernels but my wifi stops immediately with franco's kernel. Should not be caused by franco's kernel though but I am too lazy to find out.
