Question, I'm on stock not rooted GS7 Edge VZ, if i want to try the U Firmware, other than no advanced calling is there any real bugs or problems with this firmware? i don't want root, i just want a clean OS with zero verizon bloat.

thank you.

I flashed the ROM couple of days ago and I haven't seen any issues. People in this forum are complaining about all the different issues like HD calling(VoLTE), WiFi password, lagging, battery issues. I don't see any problem maybe cause I haven't rooted it and it's just a clean U firmware.

FYI few people have also complaint that HD calling isn't working. For me it's working great! If you go to settings -> mobile networks, you'll see the option of VoLTE.

Battery is working great as well. Yesterday I slept with my phone being 100% and woke up after 8 hours with 96% battery. Can't complaint!

The only thing is Visual VM isn't going to work. For that I downloaded a third party VM app. Works awesome for me.

I hope this info helps!

Yes, all current firmware is rootable but if you go with Verizon PH1 you will only be able to flash PH1 or the PI3 U firmware in post 2. You will not be able to flash any previous firmware if you are on the newest. It's not a big deal only a heads up.

You might be able to but you can get your firmware using this guide. If you don't want to save a copy then just run Smartswitch and you can update from there.

Thanks, I'm glad the firmware helps. I'm on PI3 too and love it, the battery life is about the best I have had. You can root it and then unroot if you don't like the way the phone is running. After you root just reflash the PI3 firmware and use the home_CSC file and you won't have to set your phone up again just to unroot. I agree the phone is much better without root.
I also want to congratulate you for starting and maintaining this thread - we are not so fortunate over on the TMo side.

Since Samsung and/or TMo have messed with the TMo 7.9 Beta so no one can extract it like the one here, you are probably noticing new activity from them (like me) over here.

I have been reluctant to take the plunge on flashing latest firmware from here in order to then flash the Verizon update, as it will not allow any downgrading of firmware here or there (reverting to latest TMo firmware works but only with latest bootloader there).

Since I have a few very good Flashfire backups that I don't think will work on latest bootloader, I would like to try your firmware that has the same bootloader version as my current TMo firmware (PB8 which I think is v2), and then see if the updater zip will work on top of it (understand that the update zip does not have a bootloader in it).

When I tried to flash latest firmware here on top of TMo (exclusive of the bootloader), I ended up with soft bricked device which needed Smart Switch - but as usual, ODIN fixed it fine.

So the question is - what is latest Verizon firmware that would include v2 bootloader? I would then ODIN the whole thing and if it took, try the update.zip.

The files in post 1 and 2 marked NEW are the newest bootloaders, anything before those is the old bootloader and can not be flashed over the new. You will want to flash this one. It's the new U firmware.

Understand that, but is that true with respect to the earlier firmware - example - could PB5 be flashed over PG5?
The two new firmwares marked new have the new V4 bootloader and can not be flashed back. If on those pi3 and ph1 are the only two we can switch back and forth from. PG5 and older have the old bootloader and can be flashed back only up to pg5 only.

Thanks.

I tried to ODIN all those from the first to PG5 on top of my TMo PD8 bootloader (I believe it is v2), but ODIN errored every time. It may be due to partitions being different.

I am only doing this so I can then ODIN US Verizon 7.0 Beta update over it - (they haven't been able to successfully download flashable either carrier update files).

I heard flash to U will enable all LTE bands like the true 935U version? Can somebody please confirm it? I have a verizon 935V, but want to use it on Cricket.

Thanks.

Don't care how noobish this sounds but I noticed the latest firmware is still on the September security patch, does the U firmware get OTA updates or do I need to flash it when it comes out?

Link to samsung drivers doesn't work. I have windows 10. Would the correct drivers automatically be installed when I connect via USB?
