I've run your stuff before and I'm not bitching or anything but I have always had this weird encryption deal going on. Your zip overwrites the laf back to stock if I remember correctly. And for some reason I end up back with that data mounting deal. I think it's something with the kernel and those two tick boxes in magisk. Then I end up having to re-root.
I went through hell getting rooted and data mounting properly. There's something that other stock rom has built it that handles all that. I'm sure you know what I'm going on about more than me. I know the solution exists but I would rather not have to go all over xda if it could be avoided.

Hope that made sense
There's nothing to do with stock laf and encryption as far as I know. Putting twrp on laf is basically "not my type" cause I'll ended up with two twrp and no DL mode. I believe @weakNPCdotCom has the right things for you, he/she might be working for next update. Don't try to jeopardize your phone with anything in this thread if all you want is hassle free solution.

Weaknpc already dropped his 20f another person tried flashing it and got an error 6 in twrp. (I thought that was an update script issue) He patches the kernel in some way. (I think I know how but can't at this time replicate it myself) I guess I'll just have to go for it and see what happens. Just has the potential to be a pain in the ass. He's moved on to another phone so I don't think check back on a regular basis. I'm not talking smack just trying to find a way that doesn't take all day to do a 100mb update you know?
Appreciate your opinion though, thanks

I actually havent released a 20f package. That was actually released on lg-firmwares like the day after I released 20e. I will try to put a 20f out by this weekend.

Well hmm [emoji848] then wth have I been going on about then? My bad man, brain got out of alignment or something. Lol. last we talked there was the error issue that one guy was dealing with so I had held off to see. I looked up the error he was showing. And went from e to F in my mind somehow between then and now. I'm not freaking out or anything. I've been thinking what your doing that seems to work right with my device and how to achieve it without you needing to do all what your up to. I been looking around and think it's possible. I'm not usually a builder of stuff, but can work my way around at getting it to work. But it looks like a pia to be honest.

hehe it's ok. I actually found the problem in my previous updater-script. I will be putting out a corrected 20e and a fresh 20f today at some point. Ill let you know when it's available.
Oh, and yeah, the process is a pita... lol

Thanks man. As always greatly appreciated. Its the dang updates. It's not you, but they're so small it just seems like it's silly to have to do 2+gb files to stay updated and all you go through each time around. I'm sure you've probably got it down but still just to do 100mb update?

I know it affects each device different because we're all sobs' screwing with our **** and each ones different. Just bitching I guess. Lol.

Well then if F is the latest I'd probably be cool with that. I like root but I think some of those patches each month are worth something or they'd not go through the effort to put em out.

As always when you can do something I'd cook

NP man. I told you guys i'd continue to support the G6 i just cant test the packages. So whenever a new update comes out ill make a package. I might spend some time looking into how to just make an update package so yall dont have to download the full zip every time. If that's possible im not sure but ill check it out.

I updated the 20e updater-scripts and re-uploaded them. Hopefully they work, but ill get a fresh 20f out as soon as I can. Spent most of the morning putting out a 20p for the V30, so now I need to take a break :p

Followed the OP and 20f installed without problem. Per the OP went back and installed magisk. Being a noob I also re-installed TWRP to recovery then realized it was already there since I wouldn't be flashing the rom without it. It is working smooth and without problem. I can access recovery via the button combination, (vol down + power), just as before in 20a. Thanks to @immns.

Because finding KDZs is becoming more of a pain, I finally got around to building the OTA patch / diff files. Let me know if you would like a copy.

With these, it is now possible to take an OTA zip and apply the diff to a stock image of the previous version. It is also possible to make a diff that can be flashed (will require a build of TWRP that I am working on).

Anyway, with that said, the 20f zip that is in the first post has a bad system.img -- it fails a hash check when I try to apply the 20g system.patch.dat from the OTA zip.

I am trying to download a fresh copy of the 20f KDZ from lg-firmwares, but only getting about 20k/sec -- so it will take days. If anyone has the 20f KDZ and can host it somewhere else, it would be appreciated.

That's awesome, thanks a lot for working on that. If you dont mind sharing then yeah i'd def. like a copy of that. I've had so much going on at work i havent really been able to work on packages in a while.

But.. I actually have a 20f KDZ i just started uploading to sourceforge. I can send you the link when it's up. Should def get more than 20k/sec

Looking forward to to the twrp you are working on.

hello brian if you needed the 20e kdz i could have actually helped. sorry to bother but can you help me find out if the 20g is arb1?
20g is still ARB01. I was finally able to get a good copy of 20f system and was able to patch it using the OTA zip. I am uploading the new zip now. What is strange is, even after downloading the 20f KDZ multiple times, I was never able to patch boot -- so the kernel will still be 20f. I figure most people (like myself) are using the mk2000 kernel anyway, so it doesn't matter. At least you get the 20g firmware and system (system is where all the security updates are anyway).

Thanks for ALL of your hard work around here Brian. I actually downgraded to 20e then followed your method with 20e kdz. Running pie and root right now. Seriously kudos to you, never thought I'd have root for my h872.

OK -- So I am going to install that later today...but just to be clear (and hopefully this helps others)...if you have been flashing other ROM, you should have...

1) H870 TWRP in laf, accessible for emergencies via holding up button and plugging phone into computer.
2) H872 Unofficial TWRP in recovery...

So, to flash this, using H872 recovery/TWRP:
1) TWRP backup whatever you want to keep.
2) Wipe all normal stuff
3) Flash this and magisk, assuming you want to root anyway.
4) Using TWRP File manager, delete /system/recovery_rom_boot.p so that if something goes wrong, you don't have to reflash H872 TWRP into recovery using laf.

Boot, and you should have the stock 8.x rooted?

In my case, I also a going to try and install stock GApps to replace LG/TMobile stuff...I'll post about my success on that later...
