Moto g5 Cedric Hard Bricked

Does anyone have a Blankflash for the Moto g5 Cedric variant (XT1671).? I accidentally hard bricked my device while trying to revert back to stock and get safetyNet to pass. Currently the only thing i have is access to the QDLoader but I can't find a blankflash anywhere.

You can't find it because it doesn't exist

On my Moto G5, I didn't receive updates, but I just update to Oreo 8.1.0 OPP28.85-16 as described here:

Pay special attention to relocking the bootloader. Follow the quoted post from Andrej_SK https://xdaforums.com/member.php?u=8851607

Hi I've just got a G5 XT1675 for my son and wanted to update it from the NPP25.137-15 Jan-17 patch release to the latest release (either 7.x or 8.x).

I've flashed multiple phones before (usually with Odin & TWRP) but despite reading lots of threads I keep going round in circles, amidst risky sounding things like IMEI being erased, hardbricking and relocking bootloaders etc. Some info seems to conflict e..g about the need to be on a certain Nougat release before updating to 8.0.

The risk of losing EMEI number is circled around custom roms and this was ages back before Motorola released Android 8x for the Moto G5 so custom Rom's at that time didn't have the full code and files to go off of

There is a guide to update the phone to Official 8.x from Motorola themselves but the furthest the security will go up to is August or September going by what I am seeing

The other option is custom ROM's but no idea if losing EMEI is still a risk or not

I tried to go back to nougat (my phone update to oreo 8.1) but when I tried the commands it sends errors:

Sending 'boot' (16384 KB)                          OKAY [  0.734s]
Writing 'boot'                                     (bootloader) Security version downgrade
(bootloader) Image boot failed validation
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote: '')
fastboot: error: Command failed

On all these commands:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1

Then the phone restarted as new, but now the finger sensor doesn't work.

Ok, I needed to unlock fastboot with the motorola page. Once done that, I could downgrade the phone, and now all works great.

Ok, I needed to unlock fastboot with the motorola page. Once done that, I could downgrade the phone, and now all works great.

Don't downgrade you device as it will hard brick your device, so just don't downgrade. If like to go back to nougat, install twrp and flash the flash nougat firmware.

It won't brick your device
You won't be able to flash gpt or bootloader due to security downgrade error so there's no risk of hard bricking

You can flash everything else and the device will boot but you will loose fingerprint due to kernel/bootloader differences (there is a zip available if you search to correct this) and you may face other issues but it is possible

Never do stock OTAs if you have unlocked the bootloader or rooted phone etc - you can block or remove the ota app if on stock rom

Is it possible to flash firmware with QFIL so I'm back to the orginal situation?

connect a usb to micro usb cable to your pc/laptop or any windows device
power off your Moto G5
hold volume down button and hold power button till screen comes on
let go
connect the other end of the usb cable to the Moto G5
open up device manager
look for fastboot Cedric S
right click on it and click update driver
click browse my computer for driver software
click let me pick a list of available drivers on my computer
click android device
click next
click Android Bootloader interface
click next
click yes
click close
open up command prompt
type cd C:\\platform-tools
type fastboot devices
you should get
( some random numbers and letters ) fastboot
if so then success everything set up

Download platform tools (contains fastboot.exe)

Either

1 - open cmd at the fastboot.exe location
2 - manually navigate cmd to the fastboot location
3 - add the path to fastboot.exe to windows environmental values to be able to run fastboot from anywhere in cmd

Note - if doing either 1 or 2 from above then your firmware or what ever you want to flash needs to be in the same location as fastboot.exe

If doing 3 & fastboot is in Windows environmental values then the firmware or what ever you are flashing can be at any location as fastboot will run from anywhere

Restart after installing USB driver
Use original USB cable or compatible USB cable (change if you have issues)


Enable USB debugging from the developer options in settings on your device before you begin to unlock the bootloader
