Hi i'm really interested in doing this but am worried about the T-mobile network lock coming back after I do this. I paid $20 on ebay to have it unlocked, any advice? thanks in advance
Hello! I suppose you are referring to the unlocking in which you must first root your LG G5 and then you enter Ebay make your purchase, send them your imei and they will unlock you through the "Device Unlock App" application. As the seller says: tmbkiller01 your unlocking will remain, as it is done directly from the TMobile Network and you should keep your device unlocked even after you upgrade to Oreo.

Stuck in fastboot every time I try to use this

Hello, I've tried doing this from a fresh 20a install about 5 times now, each time I have
  • Installed the 20a kdz,
  • Applied the recowvery permissive exploit
  • Flashed the Recovery with TWRP 3.2.3-2-h830
  • Installed Magisk 18.1
  • Installed Magisk Manager Apk
  • Booted into recovery
  • Decrypted Data
  • Wiped, System, Data, Dalvik, etc (i started with just wiping the cache originally)
  • Installed the 30c Zip
  • Attempt to install the Magisk 18.1 zip, get an error talking about repacking
  • Reboot
When it restarts fastboot is the only thing that will boot, I can get into download mode as well, recovery yields nothing, volume down/power never shows a TMobile logo.
From here all i can do is flash stock again and try another permutation of what I've done already. I've also tried just deleting the file referenced in the guide but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Decrypting data (in this case, I'm guessing you're doing a direct /data erase 'cause that's the only way to decrypt /data) erases anything installed on /data, so your manager install won't be doing anything.

Try this:
So after getting TWRP installed, decrypt data first, then install Magisk 18.1.

Boot into 20A just to make sure that works and Magisk is installed.

Then, go into TWRP, don't wipe anything else. Install the 30C zip. Watch the log carefully. Are there any Magisk scripts that autorun after installing the 30C zip? Sometimes it will auto-patch the OTA updates.

Here you could try reflashing Magisk again. Or, if a Magisk script has auto-run without an error, don't.

Then reboot. At the very least, it should boot into 30C. Whether or not TWRP stays, not sure. If it boots up and you get a bunch of force closures, this is where you do a factory reset from within Android.

Came from Fulmics and oreo is noticeably faster and uses less battery. Had to give up notification bar tweaks but not a huge deal. Installed Viper4android via magisk which was the only tweak I would really miss. I still love this phone (dual camera, removable battery and <100$ if i need a replacement) and this breathed new life into my G5!

My only issue is /data not available in TWRP to backup. Still working on that.

Thanks autoprime! donation coming your way.

Sounds like your /data partition is encrypted.

You'll need to do a manual /data wipe within twrp (after backing everything up with titanium or similar app) then install everything over again.

Is anyone else experincing a lot of random app crashes with oreo? I am. Its happening mostly with messenger, instagram, and YouTube. On messenger if I even begin to scroll through a message the app will freeze and then after a few seconds it crashes. Also happens if I begin to type to someone. I've already tried reinstalling, and then did a whole factory reset.. Still happening. The battery is also draining extremely fast.

Thanks. I tried to wipe and format /data to decrypt but kept re-encrypting again every reboot to system.
Decryption finally stuck after updating to the latest version of TWRP in case anybody else runs into this issue.

You clearly have a rogue app installed, as stock LG won't have this. Check your apps and uninstall suspect apps one by one.

That is really interesting. Not sure how the Fulmic ROM could block these pop ups that the stock could not. Does it have a built in ad-blocker?

If you are rooted, you could also try 'freezing' the apps one by one using Titanium Backup or other like app instead of uninstalling.
