Im about ready to unlock my bootloader and install gingerbread, but I have one question first.

If for any reason something doesnt work right for me, can I return to 1.83?

Great. Thanks. Im reading like crazy to make sure I do this right, but man, so much work. I remember the captivate days. It was so simple. Damn motorola, why did they have to make things so crazy.

And while Im here, let me ask a question. I went to the link on the first page of this thread to download gingerbread. Do I grab the Gingerbread 4.5 Beta or the 4.5.91?

Hey guys- two quick questions.

If we unlock the BL to flash this, does that prevent us from receiving future OTA updates?

Also, if we unlock the BL now, will our BL become locked again once the official OTA update comes out this month? Im looking at it from a warranty coverage point of view.

Sorry if this sounds redundant. I've searched for the answers but havnt been able to find the answers.

Thanks

If this is anything like the Xoom you probably will NOT be able to receive OTA without relocking the bootloader.

Xoom Wifi on Tiamat 1.1 OC kernal
Captivate 1006 running Continuum 6.1 & Talon.

Everyone, make sure you also know about the moto-fastboot.exe (for windows) that will split the large .img files when sending to the phone. The one I downloaded from this thread is the moto-fastboot-win32.zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092

Otherwise, you may get a version of fastboot that will not do this and will result in something like:

E:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot flash system system.img
sending 'system' (327680 KB)...
(bootloader) Image is too big, use 0x10000000 bytes chunks
FAILED (remote: (00000006))
finished. total time: 0.002s

This is great! I got sick of my phone needing a reboot everyday cause desktop folders would stop working. I've missed my GB of my N1...

Any clue on how to get the webtop.img installed? I've got a lapdock and obviously it no worky no more. :(

Yeah Webtop doesn't work for me either after flashing the webtop.img (I have the Webtop dock that outputs HDMI to my monitor and has the USB inputs).

I'm on Kenn's latest 2.3.4 Beta #4. What does that add (or remove) that would make it worth moving to this stock image, or for that matter, moving from this stock to Kenn's ROM if the shoe were on the other foot?

It was more obvious with earlier GingerBlur P-ROM's, as it was a clear GB upgrade from Froyo, and removed the motoblur nonsense. On 2.3.4, I'm not certain what features I'm getting from Kenn's ROM.

Sorry if this is obvious, and I've missed it...

After you start up the device by holding power + volume down and seeing the word "Fastboot", you need to hit volume up to bring up the message "Starting Fastboot protocol support"

That should fix it for you.

deodexed or odexed

Warning
Don't worry, they won't give you a brickable device like the over-the-air zip.
Description
I've uploaded the stock images for those who want to check out 4.5.91 without trying a custom ROM or creating a brickable device.

You'll still need an unlocked bootloader to flash these images, but they should provide you with a clean version of 4.5.91 that works perfectly.
Instructions

  1. Download moto-fastboot for your operating system
  2. Turn your device off
  3. Boot into "Fastboot mode" by holding down the bottom volume button while pressing power.
  4. Use the following commands to flash the images:
    • moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
    • moto-fastboot flash system system.img
  5. Use the following commands to wipe data and reboot:
    • moto-fastboot -w
    • moto-fastboot reboot
Hello Kenneth

My first post,
Thanks for your work, amazing.

I installed the images you posted, they work well. After trying to modify the
framework.jar in order to fix Right to Left with other languages I noticed that
your *.images are odexed.

Can you load deodexed images?

Thanks
