You should be able to pick the fastboot mode, then all you have to do is enter the fastboot OEM unlock command.Hello, I tried using this, followed the instructions step by step and I got my phone bricked, not sure if it's hard or soft. but it won't boot. I get a "Starting RSD Mode" message.

I get exactly the same problem after following Kenneth's original post. My Atrix won't boot with the following error, "Failed to boot 4. Starting RSD Mode". No buttons are responsive once in RSD Mode so I removed the battery to reboot and try to enter Fastboot mode, but it won't do anything except go back to same error message. You should be able to pick the fastboot mode, then all you have to do is enter the fastboot OEM unlock command.

I've found the fix for both our troubles! RTMHello, I tried using this, followed the instructions step by step and I got my phone bricked, not sure if it's hard or soft. but it won't boot. I get a "Starting RSD Mode" message.

I'm sorry, there seems to be SO much information out there and I'm unclear on the process. I'm currently BL Unlocked, rooted stock 1.83. I received the OTA update, downloaded and hit install now, it rebooted into the yellow exclamation point screen with the little green android robot. I battery-pulled and it restarted normally and then I got the message "update failed."Warning
DescriptionDon't worry, they won't give you a brickable device like the over-the-air zip.I've uploaded the stock images for those who want to check out 4.5.91 without trying a custom ROM or creating a brickable device.
You'll still need an unlocked bootloader to flash these images, but they should provide you with a clean version of 4.5.91 that works perfectly.DownloadInstructions
- Download moto-fastboot for your operating system
- Turn your device off
- Boot into "Fastboot mode" by holding down the bottom volume button while pressing power.
- Use the following commands to flash the images:
- moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
- moto-fastboot flash system system.img
- Use the following commands to wipe data and reboot:
- moto-fastboot -w
- moto-fastboot reboot
I attempted to download and install the OTA update again...it began to show the unpacking icon, then went into the yellow exclamation point. I then touched the bottom-right corner and took a picture of the screen (appears to be the recovery screen).I'm sorry, there seems to be SO much information out there and I'm unclear on the process. If I download this Gingerbread-4.5.91.zip file and follow these instructions without "moto-fastboot -w" I should be updated and rooted with all of my data?
I'm rooted and unlocked but not with CWM....I'll just try to flash manually via fastboot with OP file attachments....and I won't wipe....I hope this works....you think this will brick me?! *SCARED*To be honest I'm not the person to ask but if you already have it unlocked with cwm and fastboot you might as well flash 2.3.4 with fastboot.
OK. Here's the deal. If you're already unlocked and rooted and you want to flash 2.3.4, just flash a fruitcake. First, download whatever fruitcake you want.I'm rooted and unlocked but not with CWM....I'll just try to flash manually via fastboot with OP file attachments....and I won't wipe....I hope this works....you think this will brick me?! *SCARED*
Ok...I decided to follow these directions and here's something interesting....I reboot into fastboot, type moto-fastboot devices and my atrix shows on the list. However, when I type moto-fastboot erase recovery I get the error "erasing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: (00180001))" which is the same error I get with fastboot erase recovery. I don't want to flash the cwm recovery you suggested above without erasing first. Does this mean my BL is not unlocked?OK. Here's the deal. put it on your external SD card. Also, make sure you have the latest CWM based recovery from Rom Racer, I know it works perfectly. Flash this with whatever recovery you currently have. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Next you'll wanna reboot your phone and boot into fastboot mode. After entering fastboot, hook yer phone up to computer and enter your command line prompts. Navigate to your fastboot folder in command line, and erase:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase user data
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase preinstall
fastboot reboot
reboot INTO RECOVERY now and flash the fruitcake of whichever rom you downloaded. This includes a kernel AND the radio you don't need to flash either of these things. Now you're on a stock 2.3.4, with no webtop. have to install that manually. make sure you do a backup of this as soon as you can with CWM, in case you run into future problems. Happy flashing!
