Wat i understood :
You are on KJ4 Rooted
Want KL7

In this case, Install mobile Odin Pro, Download n put KL7 tar file on SD card
N flash with Mobile Odin by selecting downloaded file (KL7), keep enable 'Ever Root' in mobile Odin.
You can get CWM for KL7, from 1st link of my signature

Rooting

Here is post, how to root galaxy Note

Device Which are Not Directly rootable, can Root this way.
- Dont use PC odin to flash such ROM
- Already Flashed - then first Flash Directly rootable ROM
- Install Mobile Odin Pro from market, and Flash Not directly rootable ROM, with Mobile odin with 'ever root' option Enable.

Note : After update if getting keyboard error, "null null", flash with mobile odin with CSC file.
Thank you for your work !

My english is bad so can you please confirm that if I am on a non rooted stock KL7 or KL8 I'll can flash a stock firmware (KL3 for exemple) with Odin PC (with no yellow triangle) and after that be able to root with the method 1 or 2 of the root's topic ?

Thank you

@Androhyp correct. Get a ROM which is a) stock and original Samsung (bc of triangle/counter) and b) known to be rootable. Flash the ROM using Windows ODIN, this will leave triangle/counter intact, as it is stock and original.
Now get root. After rooting, upgrade ROM to most recent version/custom ROM using a) ClockworkModRecovery&CWM Manager or b) MobileODIN (Pro). Both are able to keep root and to flash different kernels, if desired.
Be advised: do not flash custom ROMs or Kernels via Windows ODIN, this will increment the counter and lead to the triangle.

I don't mean to sound like an ass, but, uuuhm... to be honest, no other anser than "your device will tell you once we got a release" comes to mind, mainly because a) there is no ICS from samsung for anyone b) since no one has any experience on that matter no one will be able to tell you c) you gave no information whatsoever on what your device was, what it is now, product code, csc, ... and d) I do believe if we continue this dialog in here we both will be punished as this somehow belongs in General or Q&A and not in Dev.
Since i am in the 'galaxy note' section, i suppose that its pretty clear for anyone (except retads) what device i own...
Secondly, the device does not tell you when you have an update, only when connected to kies

The device will tell you when there is an update available. And it even applies the update. On the device itself. No KIES needed. The technique is called OTA, Over-The-Air. You'll find the corresponding menu in Settings/Device information (?)/Software Update (?). I put the "?" because I translated those strings since I'm to lazy to change my system language to English.

And since you became a little rude, I'll get a little rude myself. You seem to lack a certain ability to correctly interpret my post. Because, since you are in the Galaxy Note forums, you supposedly own a Galaxy Note. And since you even connected your Note to your PC and asked KIES for an update, you most definitely own a Note. I do possess said ability to figure this out. So I obviously was not aiming for that. Even worse, I spelled it out in my post. You own a Galaxy Note. There's many Galaxy Notes though, you must know. XX Notes, DK Notes, DD Notes, ... As you may know, availability of software updates does vary from marketing region to marketing region. But, and I repeat myself:
  1. No one has ever seen anything about an official ICS from Samsung, so no one will be able to tell you anything about it, about ICS I mean
  2. let alone tell you anything about availability for your very specific Note, which you gave no details about
  3. but you don't need to give details, yet at least, nobody will be able to answer, try again in about roughly two months
  4. because in about two months the official release of ICS for the Note should be very close by
  5. then the peeps in this forum might know more about ICS on the Note in general
  6. and then somebody might even know details about ICS for your very specific device
Does that make sense now? You are just two months to early. Come back then.

Edit: And that's exactly what I meant in my initial answer with not wanting to be an ass and such. All of this you could have deducted yourself by taking a minute and thinking about it. But you didn't. Instead you took the time to post your rant. Duh...

@ Ketan

Just to confirm before i go wrong..I am already rooted + CWM.. what i will do is

1. I will download kl7/8
2. i will use Mobile odin pro to upgrade the ROM with ever root option.
3. by doing this way my ROM will get upgraded without affecting my root. i.e my mobile will still be rooted.

please advise whether the above steps are fine.. also tell me should i go for KL7 or KL8..

exactly correct. After completing as you said,
If you face any typing issue 'null null' flash with mobile odin with CSC single file(i have read this issue in case of KL8)
Gud Luck !

correct, you might need to reflash a cfroot kernel via odin mobile once the flash is complete...i had to do this to get CWM back

Very nice and detailed guide; thank you for posting it! I'm totally prepared to update my phone now! The country where my Note is from is taking a bit too long to get KL7/8.

Just one quick question though. Like the other guy, I also want to know which you think is better between the two latest firmware posted: KL7 or KL8?

I have read from a thread about it a while before but it the comments are mixed so I'm still confused. THANKS AGAIN!

If it helps, here is my current configuration:
