Restore

i backed up all the apps and selected apk+data
then do the same with data and select which ones you want to keep sms+mms
I did this, and i have some applications which are failing, opera mobile restored and at execution just start and close. Had to reinstall it?? Contacts are full of doublons, need to do cleanup.. Otherwise OK.

Solution works but have some issues..

Thank you.

Just went to LA1 from KL8. Definitely an improvement, the damn thing starts to feel as snappy as my (pre-Note), GSII. LA1 is also less harsh on your RAM (i had a huge issue with this on KJ4 and less with KL8).

Definitely recommended, but for some reason after it installed (which supposedly wipes as well), i entered CWM in Restore mode and did a full Dalvik/Cache/Data wipe and saw improvement. You might wanna try it.

Unfortunately that doesn't work in my case.

I tried 2 times with KL8 kernel, but I got error...
Sorry if this is a noob question, but what is the benefit of putting a KL8 kernel on the LA1 rom? Doesn't this rom include an LA1 kernel? I'm just not completely clear.

Thanks in advance

At that moment, there wasn't a CF-Root kernel for LA1 rom and someone recommended the KL8 CF-Root kernel.

BUT it didn;t worked for me.

BUT LA1 CF-Root kernel which was released afterwards, didn''t work as well (boot-loop)...

The rom LA1 itself has a lot of issues...

Oh, so let me get this straight, if there were a LA1 CF root kernel then you could just update then root it with the new kernel. Instead without it you have to root your current rom first, then upgrade via mobile odin pro?

Will the LA1 do a data wipe if flashed with mobile odin pro ?
Yes. A wipe ROM will always wipe, no matter how you flash it.

(...)nandroid backup... I did not find this pgm.
When creating a backup using Clockworkmod Recovery, either manually in Clockworkmod Recovery itself or by starting it "remotely" using the CWM app, this will create a "nandroid" backup. Earlier, in the "olden" days, it wasn't just called "Backup" in the recovery but really "nandroid". Nowadays the option which does a nandroid backup is just dubbed "Backup".
As opposed to Titanium Backup, a nandroid backup is a one-to-one exact image of your device the moment you pull the backup. Titanium Backup does not image the whole device but APK and custom data belonging to APK only.

But i received a msg saying "MD5 Mismatch"...
I had the exact same problem, tried to restore Data and got MD5 mismatch...
Same answer for you both: it's a bug in nandroid/Clockworkmod recovery. Can be circumvented very very easy though. After flashing, boot the device, skip all initial setup steps, launch CWM app, select restore, select the backup done before the flash, untick all options except "data" and proceed. Interestingly, when launched through the CWM app, the restore will complete. When launched inside the recovery itself, it fails with the stupid MD5 has bug. It might be possible, that the first time you try to restore, it just boots into the recovery, does nothing and just sits there. If that happens, just reboot, launch CWM, select restore, untick all except "data" and the second time round it usually works. At least on my and my friends device.

Which CF Root Kernel will work with LA1 ?
All, differences in Kernels are minimal. If you take a more recent kernel (KL7/8) you'll be able to use the flashlight widget with 3 levels, earlier kernels only know about 1 level.

If I use ROM Manager to backup, I need to install ClockworkMode. Will it cause trouble for me to use mobile odin later? Will I retain my CF-Root?
Yes. No. Yes. If done correctly.

Oh, so let me get this straight, if there were a LA1 CF root kernel then you could just update then root it with the new kernel. Instead without it you have to root your current rom first, then upgrade via mobile odin pro?
No. Availability of a cf-root kernel has no influence of direct-root-ability of a ROM. A cf-root kernel only means the kernel which was in that ROM slightly edited and equipped with the custom Clockworkmod recovery. That's all. Any recent kernel - read above - will do though.

I believe someone was asking about FM, right? FM is the "FM Kernel" by riversource. It's a custom kernel, obviously quite close to the cf-root kernels but with some added goodies like additional governors which can make the device react more snappy, for example. Or save battery, or whatever cpu governors can all do.

The LA1 has a "pit" file. Should I include it if I'm going to flash via Odin (on PC)?

And whenever I placed the pit file...a check appear on re-partition. Is it normal? Or should I remove it.

Please I need to be clear on this. Thank you

.Pit is partition index table file, you have to select it when 're-partition' need.
Only you have to select it when special instruction given. Many have bricked device...
Here DONT need to select it.

Yes, Yes, bravo, this time it works, thank you.

Just one thing, after flashing LA1, booting, skipping settings, starting CWM app, i receive msg saying something wrong with cf-root (sorry i dont remember the message wording) and restore option was missing. I tried to flash another kernel (KL8 as you suggested) and after rebooting and starting CWM app, then i had the restore option.
I restored successfully and back to work.

I wanted to upgrade to LA1 because i experience echo during call especialy remarkable from the other end. Hope La1 w/modem fix it, will see.

on kl8 and want to root.

Hi!

I'm using kl8 today, and i want to root.

Is it possible to downgrade with a non-wipe rom (like kk5) without wiping? (does it work as non-wipe with downgrades as well?)

I just flashed LA1 but I cant figure out the CSC to apply for Kies to work. It is giving me (Yor phone cannot be upgraded via Kies blah blah bla).
I came from KL7 DBT because I needed root, I downgraded to KJ1 and then to LA1.
I understand it is open Europe but the CSC I get with *#272 is XEU,XEO,XEF,KOR,ITV,DBT,CWP. Which CSC should I apply to get Kies to work
Thanks

Thanks Ade, I figured I should install Titanium backup on kk5/4 and do a backup and then flash KL8/LA1

But you didn't get wiped anywhere in the process then? Is that correctlyt understood?

Wich of the methods in the start of this thread do you refer to as CF-root (sorry for being such a noob on this... I'm reading but its so much out here!). I guess that any of the methods should work on a "directly rootable rom"

you would need to flash it via odin mobile
