Thanks dr.ketan. One last question. I just started playing around with the rom but have not noticed any significant differnce between this (LA1) and my former (KL7). What are the improvements on this ROM? Left for me I would say they are thesame the only difference seem to be different release dates for different carriers. Pls correct me if am wrong

Thanks, that explains a lot. So kernels are where clockwork recovery reside?
Yes, correct. You come from HTC? I do, and I had to learn alot coming to Samsung

...i receive msg saying something wrong with cf-root (sorry i dont remember the message wording) and restore option was missing.
This is due to not selecting a custom kernel when flashing LA1. If you dont select a custom kernel, you'll end up with the stock kernel of course and the stock kernel does not provide, naturally, the clockworkmod recovery.

Of course they are not any different. Android 2.3 does not get any development anymore so obviously that cant change, it the Samsung stuff which gets tweaked a bit from release to release. S-Memo for example got the ability to sync to evernote. Or the lockscreen got updated. Speed is improved. Thats about it. And dont ask for a changelog, Samsung doesnt give one ;)

Actually, I am coming from an OG Moto Droid (which was super simple to mod, thanks to the unlocked bootloader) & my current Droid X. I love my Droid X which is why I've managed to hold onto it for over 1.5 years, and until the GS2/Note there hasn't been much worth upgrading to.

My Note should be arriving tomorrow :D and my DX is going to a friend/family/ebay

I am also from HTC and thank you to teach me your experience.

I see that the LA1 kernel utility is available now in 1st post.
Being with KL8 kernel now with LA1, if i install LA1 kernel, do i loose data and settings?

...

If you want to keep Root,
- first Root your currant ROM
- install mobile odin pro
- download KL7/KL8/LA1, extract n keep files on a folder n memory card(Int/Ext)
- open Mobile odin pro - select open file - point to downloaded folder n select 'code' file
- all field will popup autometically
Flash
If get typing error 'null null'
mobile odin - click cache - point to 'CSC' file of downloaded rom
reflash
Done

Hi dr.ketan,
I followed your instruction but not all the fields are populated: modem remains blank. Is that correct?
Moreover, reading the previous posts, I'm asking: for keeping CWM, I have to load zImage in the field of kernel at the same time of flashing the entire LA1, correct?
Thx

you can flash the kernel during or after the rom is installed
Hi richy, yeah I know, you did tell me that already :) But, notwithsanding flashing it, I remained with KL7 kernel. Worse still, when I tried to flash modem, my note locked and I had to flash back to KK9 :( Hence, I was searching for what I've done bad during the procedure

I Finally got the LA1 ROM installed on my Note along with the CF Root Kernel LA1 provided in the Chanfire thread.:):D

And many thanks to those including those who provided links to Stock ROM LA1 on various threads including ketan.

I installed from the CWM app and selected CF Root kernel when asked to do so..:p

Voila...Hit Flash Normally Button... and Ding ,Ding Ding...:p

Changes Noticed so far :

1. The Touchscreen is now more awesome than ever before. Remarkable improvement in touch sensitivity .

2. Lockscreen now Shows the line - 'Swipe to Unlock'

3. Some new apps from Samsung ( Samsung Music Hub )

4. Notifications Window is zipping fast.

5. new Option in Keyboard settings to Use keyboard with a Single Hand

6. Voice Command (VLingo) much better and responsive.

7. New Torch Widget

Testing more rt nw...;)

After that However , Out of some curiosity , I changed my CSC to Open Europe through *#272* method. Although the CSC changed from Korea to Open Europe (India -INU was not there )..I think it doesnt matters as much.:p

Before this I was on KL3 Stock ROM for Indian version along with Zengbrush + CF root + CWM . And did the following:

1. Made a ROM backup through CWM
2. Did a Titanium Backup for only user Apps.

@Ketan
Can you update the stock kernels as well ? I want to roll back to stock kernel and seeing the amount of customization that I've done on my phone, flashing a new ROM would be a huge effort.

Would it not be possible to just update the kernel via CWM, just as I updated to abyss kernel ?
