Would making a backup of barrin zv6 before flashing do any good?

WIll you be using LG Tool to flash .tot? If so, it won't matter as everything will be lost, including root.
If flashing manually through TWRP, yeah, it'll help!

You should ALWAYS make a backup anyway. And IamFlynn is right. It won't let you keep root. From how it sounds, you can still use LGFlashtool to drop back from zv8 to zv4 and then use stump root on zv4 to get your barrin backup restored.

anyone been able to extract the system.img file from the TOT? I am unfamiliar with that file extension and can't find software online to extract it.

I took the TOT and made the system image. After I flashed everything and rebooted I get a boot certification verify error. I tried the images in the TOT file and also the hosted ones just replacing the TOT system.img. It does not work either way

I believe there is a trick to getting this to boot since you guys are staying on the old bootloader... but i wanted to wait until engine95 had his ZV8 rom up before addressing it.

try the attached boot.img instead if staying on old bootloader.. should just need to be bump'd. new boot sigs don't work with old aboot.

That version gets by the signature check but it hangs on the LG screen

I just tried the cache and dalvik a few times and no dice...

his steps include wiping system and data first... I wonder if that needs to be done this time before updating to L?
or if the update to ZV8 rpm/tz is causing the hang (engine95 does not include those in his zip)?

the patched boot.img should be good though. idk.. please keep me posted. I'm kinda in the dark due to not owning this device.

I have them wipe all 4 just so there are no issues. The ROM actually wipes everything but data on it's own. But a little insurance never hurts.

I did have to use the "other bump" for the kernel though. That's what's in the ROM.

I haven't messed with the rpm/tz partitions yet. That was gonna be on my todo list. Is there really a reason to have them? We didn't use them on ZV6, so I thought why risk it when things are working fine.

Do you have WiFi calling? If not this, then yes.

Edit. If I remember right, you're not rooted and used Flashtool. If it is you, then you will have to, more than likely.

WiFi calling shows up without correct carrier customization this time. It happened to me.

Kinda wanted to do a compare and contrast between ota on hers and flashing mine. Just want to make sure I can eventually get her rooted if she accepts the ota in a couple of days.
